This is an awesome song. I can play most of it (seriously), and my brother tabbed this by ear and the video and can play it perfectly. You may not believe me, and I can't post a video, but he can.
I'm actually working on a Powertab of this to put on UG (Ultimate Guitar, for those who don't know.)
those who have criticism referring to justin kings play style please before you say anything, stop and think that this man's poop has more talent than your lives work and you will only sound like a jealous child.
i'll admit, perhaps some of his tapping is abit repeatative and boring, yet other of his tapping songs are amazingly complex, and meldoic, and quite beautiful songs...in regards to the "one trick pony" comment, you clearly haven't followed him as you say. he's released the likes of august train, paris morning, scrabbo tower etc, which are beautiful instrumental peices with no tapping.alternatively,we have theres something about angels, ashes, reach you..all beautiful acoustic peices with vocals.
oh and whats this, justin king and the apologies? wow, he has an almost indie-esq music going aswell, a combination of all his finer traits put in a more commercial context, so seriously, get your facts straight and stop talking out of your arse. his tapping is perhaps repeative, but trying listening to his other stuff!
Not to be argumentative... but this music. Listen to it... he creates a back beat with the left hand tapping than plays his own lead and drums over it. It's quite skillful and still manages to sound quite melodic. To each their own though, just don't cut it down becuase you don't find it "musical"
you know he got the tuning of DADGAD from Michael hedges song ragamuffin. in fact thats where king got his style from.. hedges is the one who invented this peculiar style of acoustic playing. but of all the guys ive seen trying to follow him.. they will never play like what hedges played
I don't really buy into the philosophy that if you are a fan of a musician, you MUST be a fan of that musician's influences. In my opinion, you can love Justin King without loving Hedges, just as you can love Stevie Ray Vaughan without loving Albert King...Plus Hedges isn't exactly making music anymore (although at this point neither is JK, so bad example)
He's in the middle of recording another instrumental album at his blackberry hills studio. At least that was the word when he played at the Troubadour last month.
Thank you for the help the other day by the way. It's a different technique, but the more I've played it the more it starts to sound close. Thank you again.
What up everyone... I've got his full set on tape cause i filmed this concert. I've also got a full set from a private show from Bozeman, Mt. I'll upload um all cause jk's amazing at the guitar....cheers... rkp
john mayer's skills on guitar. he played some funk on that one car commercial. he was on Chappelle's show jammin with Dave Chappelle and Questlove. oh yea and this song is so creative
I learned Justin's version from this clip. It's growing on me the more I play it. The problem is when my guitar is tuned in DADGAD it doesn't have the same kind of harmonic response as Justin's Taylor. Man, if only I had 3k to spend on that guitar I would be in HEAVEN
Yes and no...it's hard to explain. The harmonics are always there, but it depends on the tonality and resonance of the wood of the guitar on how much they are brought out. Some harmonics on my guitar don't ring clearly and I don't get the same full sound out of it that Justin does with his Taylor.
i filmed this video. Shot on a canon xl2. i've got the entire set archived

hmmmm of course his guitar is very good for tapping but the harmonics should be the same on every guitar...

oh, now i see what you mean. every guitar is differnt in that way, even my e-guitars have different strong harmonics.
his guitar is off the hook ...and only 3k ....damnit
