my older brother just go promoted to warrant officer but he is getting embassy shit in saudi arabia but thats probably cuz he speaks arabic.. do you know why he isn't doing what you're doing?
is 1:22 - 1:26 the only water in all over Iraq? that takes some serious courage to do what you do man.. not many people can do that.. my dad got offered warrant officer to fly hueys in nam and said fuck no
i want to join the army though but i dont know what i would want to do.. i would LOVE to go to west point but my grades aren't to good
Recruiters are full of shi!. Period, I have 2 college degrees and when I enlisted got the same line of crap. They encouraged me to go enlisted and not OCS. Dont buy it.
Any tips on joining the Army to fly helicopters? (I know you're the crew chief and all, close enough :P)
I want to join the Air Force but I love helicopters, they're f**king cool. And I may reconsider just to fly helicopters, would you recommend that considering I literally love helicopters in every way? :D
love being a crew chief. check out my vids of being a Black Hawk crew chief in the UH-60M. Will be making funny vids of us crew chiefs and my crazy pilots
How would one go about becoming a crew chief in the 160th? Sorry but google isn't helping me out on that one. Also, is there a chance that I could never be a crew chief, and would be turning wrenches for four years? Cause that would piss me off, I'd rather just go Infantry than that.
@marleynrs8 to go 160th you need to get either DA orders or submit a enlisted packet you can get more info on their recruiting website. yes you could get stuck just turning wrenches if you are not fit for flying but if you can pass a flight physical and your not a complete shitbag the chances of you never flying are very rare
what was your MOS? i wanted to become a blackhawk crew chief, so i was thinking it would help to be a 15T blackhawk helicopter repairer. what was your MOS before you got picked?
@free2ride93 15T is the only way to be a Blackhawk crew chief, but not all tangos are crew chiefs, most are chilling in the hanger while the crew chiefs are out flying
@free2ride93 indeed, UH-60 crew chief here, just do your job and make sure you get along with people in the flight company and you'll wind up where you want to be. Generally 15T's start in the Delta company (maintenance) and can work your way into a Charlie company (the flight company), just pray you don't wind up at Depot, AIT is a breeze you'll be at C company 1-222 in Fort Eustis for about 15 weeks.
@free2ride93 old reply but to be a crew chief for a black hawk you have to be a 15T... then get good at what you do and you will be given a bird of your own... which gets you flight status. I have my own bird in South Korea.
@free2ride93 There is no specific MOS for crew chief, its something you are picked for and you HAVE TO BE a 15T to be one for black hawks. Once you finish your training you will go to your unit and prove your self, you must be in a line company (that's how it worked for me) and then once you show your skills, you MAY be given a bird. I have a bird here in South Korea
@piratepride2015 Well it depends. Of course you will get to ride of a bird every now and then if you arnt a crew chief. If you are in an aviation unit and you guys are having an easy day just ask to go for a ride. it is usually no problem. But to be a crew chief and to be talking to the pilots and telling them all the info they need you need to be crewing that aircraft. im a crew chief for Apaches and ive rode in chinooks.
@kahuku96731 it can take 2 years but im a PFC ive been at my unit for not even 2 months and im about to go to academics to become a crew chief. even though there are 3 crew chiefs on chinooks there is less of the chinooks in general 15T is the way to go
@blackhawksoldier1 Hey i was considering this MOS too for the flight part, which everybody tells me is sweet as shit. I also have college credits so ill be an E-3 going in, would that help me start flying sooner?
@tingtingjunocom Having prior college wont really help you much but 15T is the right route to go. 15T is all about doing aircraft maintenance i know some of the smartest people i have ever met that were tangos and they cant turn a wrench on a bird to save their lives. get good at maintenance never turn down an opportunity to learn, bust your ass and you will be flyin in no time. work close with the crew chiefs they can be your best friends and if you know what your doing they will recommend you
@kahuku96731@kahuku96731 Yeah im a crew chief on Apaches and i wish i could have been with a bird i could have flown with but its okay, i like what i do. Its rewarding and you will really enjoy it. Except in the winter... well some parts.
Actually you gonna be a maintenance guy. Flight is a privelege not a job. Good luck with that. Only a few are selected for crewchiefs. I know I am one with this unit.
Nice Video..but not sure as a BN SI how happy Id be about you doing Neg Gs without being strapped into anything?! Oh well... I guess thats why we have STANDZ huh? lol...
it's not the same thing for the navy. for the navy, you have to join as an AW (nothing else), and have Rescue Swimmer in your contract. Only AW/Rescue Swimmers are door gunners. If you're an AW but not a RS, you won't be in helicopters. And if you're a Rescue Swimmer but not an AW, you won't be in helos either
In the Army, it depends on what kind of company you go to, if it's a flight company you'll do minimum maintenance (but will still do daily inspections and some maintenance), if you're in a maintenance company you'll likely do a lot of maintenance but not much flying. However, the soldiers who prove themselves in a maint. platoon are typically the first to be chosen when a slot opens in the flight company. Or you could get lucky and go right to a flight company.
In the Navy, you join as an AW/Rescue Swimmer. Note that not all AW's are in helos, and not all RS are in helos, but all AW/RS are. In the Navy as an AW you won't do anything but fly and read your operational publications to get better at flying. The training pipeline is much longer than the Army's, comprising "A" school, Rescue Swimmer school, and SERE school. If you go to a unit that's worth anything, you'll become a plane captain and do the occasional daily but that's it, you'll just fly alot
yeah im definatly goin in as 15 Tango if i dont go in as 31B. stil havnt made up my mind yet on that and im goin in the national guard (what i plan on doin)

Looking for a Blackhawk Crew Chief
Just dropped my 18 yr. old son off at Ft Eustis for AIT - 15T
Signed up for six yrs. as a reservist. After AIT he goes back to Texas and into ROTC with his reserve unit at Texas Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth.
Eventually wants to fly Blackhawks - is he on the right track ?
Not sure if he will go the warrant officer route or try for flight school right after getting commissioned. Any advice?
Roofwalker56 1 year ago
@Roofwalker56 Well i'm on the same exact track and i'm taking advice from a warrant officer. only difference is that I am active duty.
mnAmericanPatriot 1 year ago
@mnAmericanPatriot
What he has been told by the desk guys is that his choices are:
a. Go OCS after ROTC then put in for Flight Training.
b. Working to become a Crew Chief and then submit a WO packet
c. Submit for WOFT right after college.
What is coming back from Crew Chiefs, WO & actual Pilots:
Forget A
B. is the fall back if you don't get WOFT on the first try.
Stick tight with his reserve unit & build relationships there since they will be writing his WO references. Make sense to you??
