I was 12 years old when this song came out. And everyone that is around my age knows that we were blessed with this song and so very many others that captured the essence of youth, innocence, and love. The lyrics were good and the beat was catchy and you could dance to it. My God we were lucky! For those of you who are coming of age now: Listen to your parent's old record albums. This was how pop and rock are supposed to sound!
Good for you, 15-year-old girl!! What a comforting feeling for a dude like me that was born in 1962. Yes, the music today sucks compared to the 60's and 70's (even the 50's for that matter).
I remember this being in the charts in the UK in March 1970. I used to hear it played on the RAF Station radio whilst sitting on my bed polishing my brasses and boots!
Ive been looking for this song for months, heard a bit of it on a commercial but just couldnt find it. Im so damn happy right now when i found it by a coincidence! just love it :D
The first song I ever put on a juke box in a caff before going off to a big football match (we won!). It's still great feel-good stuff. This just brings back so many great memories of great times. Thanks for posting.
Many of the songs today are covers of songs from long ago. The 1960s was probably the most creative with the many different styles of rock that came out.
Her name wasn't Rosemary, but I think of her every time I hear this song. I loved her then, many years ago, and I love her now, even though we've never met again.
@MargusKiistheCritic The original edison lighthouse toured extensively both in the UK, Scandinavia & the continent. they played alongside Roy Orbison, Chuck Berry, Canned Heat, Marmalade, Cliff Richard to name but a few & continue to play to this day.
The singing guy is Andy Locke and I`m pretty sure he re-recorded the song and his voice is real here. He`s still in business and singing this song as a solo artist in his lives.
i listened this song today in the radio of my car and i remembered "because my love grows when" all day and finally i write that in google and i found the complete name of this beautiful song :D... sorry for my bad english :P
Who is the guy in the video? Not Tony Burrows obviously? I must say he is a bit more appealing on the eye, extremely cute in fact. Tony's hairstyle at the time looked like he'd borrowed it from some lady who used to serve lunches at our school canteen. Great pop song though. I loved that year!
I grew up in a time when music was appreciated and understood. This is my kind of music. Love the 60's and 70's music. I listen to it everyday at work. And one can actually understand what they are singing. Peace, Love and Happiness :)
I'm a 15 year old girl, and I must say, my generation is fucked. I love music like this. I love all music but mainly the old classic stuff, 80's classic rock probably being my favorite music genre. I hate most of the music around today.
You like this because you apparently know the difference between people that can actually sing and play music without electronic enhancements. The lyrics rhymed and the music was mostly more complex...I like some of the music of the last decade or so, but most of it is shit. There isn't a guitar player or singer today that could match the raw talent of even of the lesser known groups of the 60's, 70's or 80's
@aceopinions , Yes and sadly enough the junk that passes for music today is able to sell, because there are many that don't know the difference between real singing and auto tune, or actually for some bizarre reason they don't care.
@SpazChat they are high on their self centeredness and so they are sufficiently coarsened that they are too stupid (stupor i.e. blotto) to be able to see the good of musical songs
@Xx13Krystyn13xX Could it be that there's something 'happy' about this kind of music. I will say that as a 12 year old in this time, living seemed simpler, less jaded, and more positive fun.
@Xx13Krystyn13xX I was the same when i was in my teens. Being born in 1982 it was weird to listen to this music but i didn't care. I loved it then and i still love it!
@Xx13Krystyn13xX I grew up in the 70's and 80's, great music and its a shame that there is nothing 'happy' like this being recorded anymore. You are not alone.
@Xx13Krystyn13xX Totally agreed. I'm 13... Music changed too much. Yes, a lot of it is enjoyable but I love music from the 30s until 99 so far.... Then everything went South.
@jbw31697 Now, would you say the same about Gonzo? Or Lars? Ok, I admit, when I ain't beatin' the skins or auctioning, I'm slingin pizza. but does that mean you have to bust me out?
none of the guys in the video had anything to do with this song ( playin, singing, etc), even tho thats a known fact , no one cares(3 million views)....fun song tho...
These guys solved the energy crisis and nobody noticed; they're playing electric guitars that aren't plugged into an electrical source. I wonder if they plugged in their blow dryers?

@PL0X1NH3LL Many of us grew up in this era, and it was a magic time. Hit after hit after hit, and it really helped define where our lives were going at that young age. I really hope that the world 'rights itself' and music goes back to romantic love(whatever form that will be) where it always starts..or the sad state of music will only lead to more of the same commercial opportunistic garbage that is 'endured' today. The misery of this : young people today won't really know until ...
@PL0X1NH3LL Those where happy times, happy people, happy songs. Now everything is "So terrable" and people simply must have to sing about it, it's all about money rather than entertainment anymore unless it's a non-sold out internet artist. They can make any song now and the'll know everyone will love it because they already have fans who worship the "Artist" so they no longer care about the music. I'm only 15 by the way.
@PL0X1NH3LL My god im 13 and Have always loved music from the 60's and 70's. It seems like I can't ever find anyone that likes remotely the same kind of music I do..........

Beautiful! Just awesome, my great uncle who came to this country in the 60's remembers many of these songs, we have those old records, this is among my favorites.
Do they make songs like this any more? I have no idea what the current crop of "popular musicians" is doing. I hope they are as good as some of these were (including this one). My mental connection with it (seems like, I could be a little hazy after 42 years or so...) is that I remember hearing it for the first time when I was in the Army at Ft. Bliss, Texas, near El Paso, for training, in Jan. or Feb. 1970, before being sent to Germany.
where did the time go, I am almost 52 I was 10 years old when this song was a hit. My father who is 80 rocked to this when he was in his late 30s. this is freaking my out. What will this be like when people see this 100 years from now
I wish that I can have a time machine and go back in time in the 1970's, stay there and never come back to the present. The 70's music will always be a classic in my point of view.
Here's another song I loved so much from my childhood! I'd hear it on my mom's 8-track tape, monster hits, or the radio, as we traveled along in her car to you knew where! Peace and Love to All, BobbyK
I'm glad that I grew up with what I guess was the end of the great days of A.M. radio. I feel like if you don't like a little cheese now and then then you really don't love music. Sad that A.M. radio is apparently only for people to yell at you 24/7. Oh well.
Does anyone recognise the setting for the video? - At first I thought it was the Royal exchange but its nothing close. The end provides the best picture to a would be sleuth answering this question.
"she ain't got no money, her hair is kinda funny..." That was Sophia. She intrigued me every day during 8th grade. I was this typical white boy. She was from the other side of the tracks. Some called her a 'gypsy,' some called her trash. I was intrigued. One day, by fate, she sat down next to me on the bus. Edison Lighthouse was playing and her smell was that of Lavender and Vanilla. We exchanged a couple smiles, a few words between bus stops and finally a couple of phone humbers.
@jeff62rey I can relate bro. There was a little hippie girl named Kim that I had a major crush on in the 8th grade that this song reminds me of....never saw her again after our freshman year in high school.
How lovely that someone else appreciates the talents of Tony Burrows. He was such a fantastic singer. I remember him so well and I loved his singing. I remember also that at one time he had 3 songs in the top ten with the different groups he sang with. I guess that's a record that will stand.
The Air Force used to use this for a recruitment commercial that played on late-night television... Because when you think of the Air Force, you immediately think of love & peace. :)

back in the seventies, with these 'videos', nobody cared. they just wanted to see who they thought was making the music and hear the song.
i often wonder why folks are so quick to say 'their stuff isn't plugged in', as though nobody else can see that?

@daveni2 You're like me asking "where did the years go?" Guess we're lucky that these gems were recorded and saved to reminisce over. Merry Christmas

I wish that I can have a time machine and go back in time in the 1970's, stay there and never come back to the present. The 70's music will always be a classic in my point of view.

Funny to watch them play outside without cords on their guitars! Who would have thunk that they would still work?
USAisAntiWhite 1 month ago
@USAisAntiWhite It was standard miming practice back in those days, even the bands in the Top of the Pops studio didn't have cables! Nobody cared!
ClaireSapphyck 1 month ago
@ClaireSapphyck I think you'll find they did have cables on TOTP Tony Burrows, the original singer of this song always sang live on that show.
