Very cute video , I am on my second pet fox, as we lost our first one I had for 10 great years.I put a short video of him up on Youtube today. Maybe you can find it, his name is Punkin Fox
no bigjess71 a fox wouldnt eat a cat they won't go near a cat i used to have a fox sadly he passed away recently i miss him very much and this vid make's me cry but my cat's and fox got on very well together
Foxes will also eat eggs.I rode up on one a few years ago that was eating guinee eggs. That was the first red fox I ever saw in fact.I never would have figured they would eat eggs but I guess they do.
Oh ok.Thats kind of how a skunk is.They look big but they really arent.
That might be but a bunch of swift foxes live close to the town I live in.I didnt know why until one night when I saw one headed back to where I always seen them and a black cat was hangin out of its mouth.I dont know if it killed it but I assumed it did.I knew they ate mice and the occasional rabbit. But I wouldnt think they would pass up a cat ever once in a while. Thanks for the info.
A fox does not get any bigger than your average house cat. They APPEAR larger than what they are because their fur is so thick and their tails are so long and fluffy.
Yeah I know some people that had raccoons as pets and they had to get that liscense.I still think that a wild animal should be left alone. And Im not trying to sound mean here but yes foxes do eat cats.I've seen one eating a cat in fact. You can even call them in with "cat in distress" sounds.I call coyotes and other stuff alot.Sorry but that cat might be fox chow someday.
Foxes often get blamed for killing animals when they are actually scavengers that eat animals already dead. Although it's probably not unheard of it is extremely rare for a fox to take on anything that has a chance to hurt it. They are opportunists and strive to eat easy meals like mice, fruit, & so on. A cat can easily beat a fox in a fight & they are not apart of their diet. You are sadly mistaken. Animals in distress might trigger an instinct which brings them helplessly to you but that's it.
@WtfZim Take a trip to Sybil's Message Board. Many fox owners on there recommend that foxes not be kept with cats, especially not kittens, as even the board owner/administrator had one of her foxes kill a kitten. I admit, though, that I've never heard of them killing an adult cat.

Foxes arent pets ok.Get a dog for cryin out loud. Its illegal in most states to own wild animals anyway. That cats gonna be fox food when it gets bigger.
Foxes don't get any bigger and do not eat cats and Tod is over a year old now and friendly with everyone. And depending on who it is making them happy, foxes can be pets, and are more common than you think. Although I wouldn't recommend them since they do have different needs than your average cat or dog. And they're not illegal in most states. Just that most states require you to obtain pet permits to make sure you know what you're doing.
That is soooo cuuuute!!!! I love how Copper tackles Tod so much, wow those two really do make good friends. Look at them they're best friends, it's so adorable!!
its legal to buy foxes in some states. other states need permits but breeders are not hard to find. i wouldnt recommend a red fox though as they are the smelliest. alot of breeders offer reds, marbled(little more rare), arctics, silvers and the most common and least smelliest the fennec(probably the most expensive though)
I'd like to raise a red fox of my own some day. I've adored foxes over cats and dogs for a long time. First, though, I'll need to get a place of my own so the parents won't freak out. How did you get Tod in the first place?
Do you treat it like an normal dog? How will it behave free in the woods? Would it run away from you and don't come back? (Asking since I have lived with horses, cats, rabbits and dog which does not run away in the forest but always come back.
Fox's have their own personality therefore Tod is not treated like a dog. He is a fox and is treated like one. Tod would stay with me if loose but I wouldn't be able to leave him alone outside because he would wander away due to their curious behavior and undoubtedly get shot by one of the crazed hunters that live around here.
I was laughing when Tod was chasing the laser pointer and running into the cat. I thought that was so cute! This is definitely a plus video for foxes as pets. However, it's still not recommended unless the owner is really committed and knowledgeable. Shoot, I'm committed and knowledgeable, but it's illegal in IL.
xD I feel stupid, I just noticed that Tod and copper... yeaaa.... the Fox and the Hound. Such a cute movie. Copper is a cute lil hyper kitten. I know Tod is from the dog family, but he kind of acts like a cat.. like how he chases the lazer, that's so cute =D
Hm. I seem to remember reading, while researching foxes when I was offered one to raise by a breeding farm, that foxes are actually a little more closely related to cats than dogs. (slitted pupils and all!) ... so a vulpine acting more feline makes sense!
I'm curious as to why you think they shouldn't? I think they can have a home either way, with a human companion or without. If a dog gets that luxury, I think a fox should too. :) ...it's a shame though, that in the wild, their life expectancy is only a year. :(
I know people on the sybilsden message board that actually have foxes as pets. Not recommended for a first pet though. They need a pretty large outdoor pen and they pee on everything from food bowls(with the remains still in it) and furniture. Oh and they love ripping furniture, especially leather. Check your state laws and make sure your vet will treat your fox first..
He's a few months old now and I keep him outside (bring him in the house sometimes). He has a lot that leads outside and into a stable/house thing he can run into for shelter.
Great! They need alot of space, we had to keep our fox on a lead for the first few months to get to know his way around outside but now he roams freely. It is amazing watching him hunt mice.
Wow that cat...that should be a foul but good recovery on the fox's part. You should put the laser on the cat...heh heh. But I heard that foxes usually leave the family after nine months and goes off to find a mate.
I wonder. what's wrong with that? O.o? Anyone could name a fox by a other dudes name.Like Tom? or josh. sometimes people name them by how they act or how they are. :p.

@WtfZim Yup a shame Foxes get blamed for killing Cats when the culprit can easily be a Coyote or a Wolf depending on where you live.

I know you have probably been asked this a million times, but what kind of fox is Tod?
ForcedToSignUp 3 years ago
He's a Red Fox, the most Common fox on the planet.
otakutai 3 years ago
Oh! I should have known this! :)
His black legs were throwing me off. The red foxes we have around here usually don't have legs that are that dark.
Tod is an amazing pet. He acts much more like a dog in the videos, rather then most of the other skittish and very temperamental pet foxes I've seen.
