@Langtry613 There's been a lot more than 14,, and there is a buttload of warning improvements. those warning lights flash due to height sensors at the intersection just before it, signage above, to both sides and before it, it's mostly rental drivers and out of towners.
I'm a rookie cop. My first day patrolling this very low bridge. I spill my mocha latte, and as I reach for it, that's when you drive by. *BOOM!* And with bad insurance like yours, you're wallet is as good as empty. So get Allstate. You'll save a bundle and be better protected from Mayhem like me.
Are there seriously THAT many ignoramouses in this world? I drive truck, too..............and I'm always ever-aware of my surroundings. That means protruding trees, height restrictions, etc. I guess the fact that most of these are RENTAL trucks should tell you something. I always stay as far away from rental trucks as I can..........because most truck renters are not professional truck drivers and don't have a clue how to drive one.
wow theres a fucking sign and STILL they just go in it add another sign saying over 10 trucks have been destroyed by this bridge and HOW THE HELL IS THE BRIDGE STILL STANDING?!?!?!?!?!
This has to be in another country besides America ---- because U.S. federal law mandates bridge heights have to be a minimum clearance to accomodate all commercial trucks
@Hunkola no it is usa. the law you are referring to only applies to the interstate highways. thats it. inner city streets like the one in this video that law dose not apply. however it is a law that all bridges must have their hight posted. i didn't see that in the video.
I used to work in this complex, and when the trucks would hit everyone would run outside and laugh at the people. Collecting debris from the trucks as mementos was also common
OMG!!! This is SO funny!!! That many drivers don't have sense enough to read the sticker on the cube of the truck that gives the correct clearance and watch for lower bridges? Unbelieveable! But, thanks for posting this video, because it clearly shows that a drivers' license can be purchased for $1.09 at any participating Walgreens, CVS or Rite Aid Pharmacy! Clearly!
The people who built this bridge are idiots..They should have known this would happen..The average person driving a rental truck doesn't know how tall it is. Notice you didn't see any tractor trailer drivers running into that thing.
The majority of those were rental trucks. Any schmoe with a license and credit card can get one. Evidently, the bridge is marked, however Joe or Janet Schmoe forgot they were in the rental truck, and not the Accord.....
@donjuandonjuan - There are signs CLEARLY POSTED AND AN IDIOT FLASHING LIGHT FOR OVER HEIGHT TRUCKS WHICH WARNS THEM OF OVER HEIGHT AND TO STOP AND TRUCK ROUTE SIGNS WAY BEFORE BRIDGE WARNING DRIVERS of the LOW CLEARANCE.
@TheTruckdr Yeah seriously you'd think they'd know the height of there vechile with what there carrying in tow before they left the yard. If at no at least stop if the bridges height is with in question.
@donjuandonjuan there obviosly is a mismeasurement of the bridge because every trucker knows the height of their rig and the height that the bridg was supposedly at should have fit the truck or else they would not have gone under it. Learning the height of your rig is compared to knowing how much gas you have in your car. that's how important it is.
@hustlinrider07 Sorry hustlin, but these that hit the bridge are not truckers, some were rentals and driven by people that didn't know what the height of their truck was.
Maybe had never even driven a truck before. A professional driver automatically sees the height sign of the bridge, and if there is no sign, I for one would stop and make sure I'm going to fit.
@donjuandonjuan There is a sign right before the bridge with yellow lights that says "OVERHEIGHT WHEN FLASHING". When a truck is too tall, the lights flash, and this should be sufficient warning to the driver. Trucks that are overheight are supposed to turn LEFT before the bridge, and turn off to the right further down. There are several factors preventing any possible construction to make the crossing safer, unfortunately. There's also a HUGE steel beam in front of the bridge, to protect it.
The bridge is the problem. If more than one truck got damaged on the top, then the engineering of the bridge is the problem. They should've made it a bit higher
Engineering is not the problem, there are plenty of bridges in this world not tall enough for trucks, and they all give a warning stupid truckers are the problem.
There is one thing that all those trucks have in common.
The drivers are NOT professional TRUCK DRIVERS.
Any licensed driver could drive those trucks.
Problem is when Ryder, Hertz and others rent a truck to joe blow, this is the risk that they take.
I think that while the driver is to blame for failing to heed the sign, there is some responsibility on the part of the motor vehicle laws that allow class c drivers to drive vehicles that overlap into class B drivers in the US.
Tour guid: And here we have the famous Truck hating bridge. This bridge damages more than 50 trucks a day, now who here can tell me how much money it would cost each of the "sucker"... I mean trucker to fix that?
The trucks actually hit a steel I-beam right in front of the bridge - that's how the RR company solved the problem. The city cannot lower the road b/c it's a state road, and the NC DOT has no cost associated with these accidents. Most truck drivers see the lights, and turn. I see several every day who turn in front of the trestle. But when they go too fast they don't see the lights in time, and ... WHAM!
Well they probably expect the engineers who built the damn thing to use standerd clearence heights above any roadway to prevent this kind of stuff from happening.
I'll bet the cops really get tired of responding to wrecks at this bridge! And for the people driving the rentals, I'd love to be there when they have to explain that to the rental company LOL...
Time to lower the road or raise the bridge. Too many RETARDED drivers. If people won't read a speed limit sign, what makes us think they'll read a clearance sign. But then again, if it's like most clearance signs I've seen, the sign is ON the bridge instead of in ADVANCE of the bridge
Close to where I live is a railway bridge that has a max headroom of 9 feet and lots of signs to tell drivers of low bridge but drivers of luton bodied Transit vans always hit it, they even speed up, but being dumb, they end up pinned to the windscreen and a roof like a Sardine tin!
I wouldn't want to be on the train that has to cross that bridge if that is a railway that crosses this with all the damage that's inflicted on these bridge supports !!!
The drivers should definetly not take that road.. i mean, they DO have eyes to see with... they should not risk it when they see the bridge and how low it is.... but on the other hand, the city planning authority is also at fault here. they should do something about the bridge; maybe raise it or something.
Agreed. The drivers are dumb, but the cost of bridge repairs, police man-hours, and other related costs are too much. Time to raise the rail overpass. Of course that will cost money and needs to be coordinated between The City and the rail ROW owner. Easier said than done.
lol ^^ after viewing this footage, i'd say its definetly better in the long run. Unless you wanna sponsor a program which equips all resident truckdrivers with glasses and a two-week reminder in driving school as to exactly what all the signs mean ^^
I think there is some fault at the road...like a lying bump made to slow the traffic. near the end, that white truck suddenly jumps (the cabin) upward and hits the bridge. But so many trucks, that's also a city problem for not putting better restrictions.
The truck jumps up because the bridge catches the top of his 12 foot body. Those straight axle box trucks are 12 foot tall. 11-9 bridge does not accomodate a 12 footer. The driver of a truck is supposed to be aware of low clearance signs. Not a city problem! Lots of bridges were built prior to taller trucks being made. What is the city supposed to do, raise the bridges??!!
@LT1HILLINGHOE : You see how that school crossing is bright orange-green...the city should have put better signalisation. I know at the end of the video he shows the height sign, but it's obviously placed at a wrong place and trucks are oncoming on that brigde at full speed.
Whenever there is a bridge that is lower than 13-6 there are a multitude of signs long before you get to the bridge. That is law in all 50 states. There are no exceptions. You are trained and posess a CDL when you drive one of these trucks. That makes you a professional and not just some ordinary driver who needs lights and all the other things you mentioned to notice a low overpass. There is no excuse for a CDL driver to ever hit a bridge except for he is brain dead.
I see small trucks, not trucks requiring to have cdl to drive them. I use to drive one of this trucks, you don't need CDL. I don't see 18 wheelers or big trucks hitting the bridge in this video. Still, you need to know how how tall your truck is and pay attention to signs
wow, u think the drivers are missing the sign about the height restrictions or is it they dont know there vehicle height? wow i wouldnt want to explain that to the rent a truck people
0:50, almost win. I bet the people behind him were laughing too. I saw a truck with a crane like thing attached to it which was in a high position. it went under a bridge and the crane snapped like a twig. the claw went straight through the roof of a car and took out the rear passenger seats, luckily nobody was in the rear. was extremely funny to watch, if I had a camera that day it would have been one of the most watched fails =D
This is a fine example of what happens when inexperienced and UN-Trained NON-CDL Licence holders get behind the wheel of anything bigger than a Bus. Please note that the Majority of vehicles are rental equipment. This video is my retort to all those whom believe that ANY Moron can drive a truck.
That is what happens when a four wheeler operator thinks they know how to drive, just because they have a DL. All a drivers licenses is to a four wheeler is a retard under plastic. Just look at your licenses.... You will see it.....
I bet the local truck rental places are tired renting out the trucks fearing their return I remember hitting the yellow poles at the gas station in front of the rental place
To everyone saying they should just raise the bridge: I bet you'd feel different if you lived in that town and *your* taxes had to pay for what would no doubt be a very expensive project.
That looks like a railway bridge; to raise it you'd need to raise the tracks not just on the bridge but also on either side of it (to keep under the maximum allowable grade), which would basically mean shutting down the railway line for *at least* a week and laying new track.

lol ^^ after viewing this footage, i'd say its definetly better in the long run.

But so many trucks, that's also a city problem for not putting better restrictions.
powerstuck 2 years ago

0:50, almost win. I bet the people behind him were laughing too. I saw a truck with a crane like thing attached to it which was in a high position. it went under a bridge and the crane snapped like a twig. the claw went straight through the roof of a car and took out the rear passenger seats, luckily nobody was in the rear. was extremely funny to watch, if I had a camera that day it would have been one of the most watched fails =D

where is this bridge?

This is a fine example of what happens when inexperienced and UN-Trained NON-CDL Licence holders get behind the wheel of anything bigger than a Bus. Please note that the Majority of vehicles are rental equipment. This video is my retort to all those whom believe that ANY Moron can drive a truck.
ancientastronomer 2 years ago
