i can do the chords now but how do you make it more like a song like you do, rather than it sounding like playing just 4 notes? Could anyone link me to a tutorial? xx
nice theory but very basic chords...you can play like this without the passing chords that go in between..but what happens when u get to the bridge? Not all songs follow this same basic pattern...Its True anyone can pick up these chords on the keyboard...but thats like sayin anyone can cook fried eggs, but not every one is a Chef lol....I like the voice

or you could just say its the I V vi IV (1,5,6,4) ... that way you can just pick a key signature and use the theoretical analysis of the four chords. For example the 4 chords you mentioned was applied to the Key of G major GM(I) DM(V) Em(vi) CM(IV).
most helpful video i have watched on this yours .of all your off comments here is one positive comment yuou just taught atleast one person how to play piano. At the same time gave interst to continue learning. TY
this is amazing i just played some songs with everyone joining in thanks so much, this is the first one i have understood form all those i have listend to ,brilliant
OK. because some people like the old me got confused with half step whole step.....HERE IT IS. FOR MAJOR CHORDS:
PICK ANY KEY, ANY! WHICH WILL BE THE ROOT KEY OF THE CHORD. THEN PLAY IT, SKIP 3 KEYS, PLAY, SKIP 2 KEYS, PLAY. LIKE THIS, ROOT, 3, 2.
FOR MINOR CHORDS: GUESS WHAT? REVERSE IT! ROOT, 2, 3. THAT SIMPLE. NOW WHEN YOU LEARN THAT, THEN LEARN 8 CHORDS, C, D, Eminor, F, G, Aminor, B, THEN BACK TO C. GET A SONG BOOK WITH CHORD NAMES, AND YOU WILL SEE HOW FAST YOU FIGURE OUT SONGS. :)
@heroslyfe AND WHEN I LEARNED IT I WAS PLAYING POPULAR SONGS THE SAME DAY. ALL AFTER A YEAR OF MUSIC THEORY, AND PIANO AND STILL NOT KNOWING CHORDS OR HOW TO PLAY ANYTHING BUT WHAT I MADE UP BY EAR!
O.o...I thought there were more chords after I learned my first piano song based on C,D,E,and C chords...but apprently..those are the only chords needed :P
I think its good for an beginning exercise, to train somewhat on my roland keyboard synthi; to bring the fingers to the music, but after a time, you need to go to more, the fellows wrote it, I can not understand all the stuff. A good will with your lesson, thank you -
Nowhere near "every" song uses this progression. Also, most of them that do aren't in the same key, so if you just played "any" song using these chords, you'd probably be playing in the wrong key. On top of that, learning the structure of a song isn't the same as learning the melody.
His name is Bret? I d rather call him the REAL Iron Man cause he is creative and teaches very well on the piano. I give him four stars because i learned instantly thru this video !!! His method is proven worthy STEP by STEP / SLOWLY and CLEARLY, CALLING out each chords played! Do more guy , kick more ass! You got it all right!
This works if you only play parts of the songs that fit this chord progression. But when you have to add in chorus, for example, it doesn't work. Same goes with that Axis of Awesome thing.
nice video but here's a way to get any minor or major chord without memorizing them thumbs up so everyone can see this tip
to get a major chord all you have to do is start with your thumb on the root note go up 4 keys (both white and black keys or half steps as i call them) and get that with your middle finger then go up 3 half steps with and hit that with your pinky
to get a minor start on the root note and go up 3 half steps and them 4 half steps
@humankindslastchoice It's WAY easier to just learn the chords. Once you learn the 7 basic chords (A, B, C, D, E, F, G), you'll find that learning related chords comes really easily. Also, if you actually learn the chords rather than just count keys, you'll also be able to play inversions and other variations really easily, not to mention get a better understanding of most melodies. I'd also strongly recommend learning what notes are in each major key. It's nowhere near as hard as it sounds.
mate your well good and pretty good at singing aswell, id rather see you than the most of britains got talent crap, and by the way i aint gay just sucking up to you i just thought you were pretty damm good.

Many beginners prefer to avoid the black keys. If you use the four chords C G Am and F you avoid the black keys and gives the same result..
(most people find it harder to sing though)
