work asked me if i go to milan in truck, do you have to pay a tax when get into italy, or do you just drive straight throu , no stopping, plus what is the cost to get throu the tunnell, hgv . what sort of price is it for car
@Coffeeholic8 You got me wrong.i said looks fake and i know its real. because the grafics are like 3D games. These are ofcourse camera settings at which its is filmed.I love the video and i have respect for this profession and people in it,may be because its my dream to be in this business.
@Coffeeholic8 There you are....hahaa colour settings changed while editing, Thats what caught my eye, the colours and graphics are more like a game in this video. I dont know if you have third generation gaming experience.
It was great to see that bit on the twisty section which passes about 500ft above the old steelworks, on what used to be the 2 way stretch of road. I used to smile as I saw all the paint and scratch marks on that high concrete wall where wagons had been forced right over to the right as summat came eastbound. I sometimes met one coming the other way but having a drawbar made it easier to pass sans probleme.A cracking video Neil, Gets me all nostalgic for past glories.
i think it was after a truck caught fire a few years back and killed a lot of people these should detect unordinary heat excessive engine heat /electrics or a cigarette slowly catching fire in the back i may be wrong but this is what i had been told down there?
Hey Coffeholic8! Do you ever go south of Italy? During the week i´m usally around Bari, Pescara or Taranto coming over the Brenner route.Sometimes over St. Bernadino if going to Milan or Turin. Where abouts is your depot? I do allot of U.K. as well Tyne area Ft. William or Inverness.
i used to do this run regularly in the mid '90's. happy days. this took me straight back. i do miss it. the scenery was spectacular. you dont realise how nice it was until you watch something like this. thanks.
use to with my brother in law tony in his maggie 310 what fun when everybodys driving scanias, dafs but happy days in chrisio getting pissed although we lost him at 49 i wont those days trucking with him. all the best
yeah i know how is it with the law of the mountain roads there? honk your horn before going into a hidden bend with no clear sight through? correct me if iam wrong.
No correction needed you are right! The only law I have seen in the mountains is the horn and flashing lights law! The experience of the other drivers which could be zero should be taken into consideration. Cortina,Biella,Grezzana,Feltre, No laws exsist for these mountain roads.
Nice video. A friend of mine from the Haute Savoie was a long distance trucker in the 80s. He told me how steep this was. I believe that one of his stories about having trouble slowing down/stopping was from descending on the French side, having to use one of the safety exit paths or whatever your call them.
He also remembered twice seeing an Italian border agent asleep at night with a stamp on a table that said "Stamp your papers." HA!
Brilliant vid.Nice smooth ride as well. After watching this i think it might be time to go back behind the wheel again,it brough back lots of fond memories..
Just interested, you have to have your vehicle go thru a heat sensor before going thru the tunnel? All vehicles or just trucks? Why? I don`t think they do that in the USA.Just wondering...Cinbad
Cars don't pass through a heat sensor. The sensor was brought in after a fire in the tunnel in March 1999 in which 39 people lost their life. A truck from Belgium carrying margarine caught fire, the blaze lasted for 56 hours and reached temperatures of 1,000 °C (1,832°F)
Expat Brit truck driver living in the USA now. Loved that, brought back a few memories. Always prefered the Blanc to Frejus. Wish it would've shown "The Wall of Death" on the French down side though. Good vid.
Excellent Video Coffee! Beautiful scenery. A few of the images remind me a bit of Colorado or California. How steep is the downhill side? In the U.S. we use the "grade" system in percentage. 7% 8% 9% etc. Do you use the same system of describing how steep a downgrade is? If not, what system do you use?
roll on August 2012 ! im going through the tunnel from the French side. Hopefully i dont get caught up in that traffic :-(

Is it always heavy traffic queues on both sides of the tunnels, I mean on the Italian part and the French part?
There must be a better and quicker way than through the tunnel which I suppose is the long windy road?
