i'm sorry to break this to you, but it is indeed a love song. sung by the Maranaos of Lanao, Mindanao. adapted by a scholar, sung by students of MSU in Marawi and later in Iligan.
"mamayug akun" is maranao for "Oh my darling" or "my love". this is a love song/courtship song... try looking that up.

I agree... its not a war song... i knew this song very much! Im a member of our Choir in MSU-IIT... we always sang this... we have our own version.. the authentic one... most the arrangers from Luzon, didn't even gives justice to the meaning... i strongly oppose, that this is a war song. and its not actually... "mamayug" means darling or love...

listen to the UST SINGERS Version of this song..both choirs are world class its just that UST Singers owned this song, i think kanya kanya lang talagang forte yan, ayoko magstart ng commotion, personal opinion ko lng, i like the UST version more.
