  • The sound of children in school lol! Thank you for documenting your lasagna garden it has been a great help to refer to it while creating mine.

  • i have started growing for the first time this year so i will try to make a few videos of its progress

  • hey are you going to do any update videos ?

  • @allotmentrhys -- Hi, yes, there's already two of them for this year for the lasagna beds.. They're just not labelled "lasagna garden". We'll also be planting a traditional, non-raised bed, rowed garden this year. (Welcome to my channel by the way!) : )

  • do those white moths have catapillars that love cabbages?

we had a plague of them this year devastation.. neem oil sorted it out tho...

    regards

    rob

  • Yes -- those little white butterflies are the ones that come from the cabbage worms! The best product you can buy to get rid of them is actually organic: It's a powder containing Bacillus thuringiensis. You mix it with water and spray it on your leaves. The catepillars munch on it and it gives them a disease. After a day or two, they all turn black and die! The trick is to spray it at the first signs of infestation as it takes a day or two to work.

  • Nice melons - out of interest, do you buy seed and when do you plant - honeydew and water? We will try some next year as I would really like to have some...

  • Hi Ivan and Magda, I bought the muskmelon (honeydew) as plants and started the watermelons from seed. This was not a "normal" year, so everything was late. Normally, I'd plant melon plants the first week in May, but this year was too cold. I am planning on starting all my own plants this year, and will do so about January / February. We're in zone 5, if that helps at all with comparing to your growing season there in Poland. : )

  • Thx Renee. I think we will try the same next year. IWe are considering getting a plastic tunnel for this sort of veg. - and maybe tomatoes, aubergine. Think its inexpensive and could make a big difference.

  • hey i live in west TN and im wanting to get some peas and lettuce and such only problem is frost. now i know these are cold weather plants so could i cover with say a tarp and keep the frost of them? or is all hope really lost for growing in the winter? thanks for any tips.

P.s. i im going to do this in a raised bed so i can cover with a tarp easily i just want to know if its worth doing before in put my time into planting

    thanks

  • well i am working on the seeds for my first year of gardening. i am hoping it goes well. it should be fun

  • Hello Renee,

Your garden as usual looks amazing and you got a very good crop for having a 1st year lasagna garden, it'll only get better and better each year. I still have hope for the potato's and hope they're not affected by blight. Keep up the great work.

  • Wow! I usually save your videos for last ...after the boom, gloom and doom stuff. Very relaxing and I like your property,

    Mmmmmmmmm! Blue berries!

  • Save those beans!! They are really easy to save and they grow great--I tried it for the first time this last year and they were gorgeous in the garden, at least until the deer ate them:( Can't wait to see the potatoes, but it makes sense that they would have gotten hit with that nasty blight you ended up with since tomatoes and potatoes are related.

  • love your garden, you have done a great deal and achieved so much this year, even with the potatoes and tomatoes problems included. hope things are better for you next year. its all about trying and learning.

    good luck for next year.

  • Too bad about your potatoes and tomatoes. Just goes to show that saving seed instead of buying from nurseries has many benefits.

Good luck with the berry bushes.

I'd till next year to get rid of some of the fungus that likes to hang out under that mulch-- especially considering the tobacco mosaic virus you have going.

  • Great Video. I've been following along with your garden and having similar experiences here in MN. Save those beans for seed! Too bad you can't put a couple 1" pvc pipes with a $2 drop cloth over those peppers soon. With lots of babies and peppers at $4/apiece, might be worth it.
