The landing craft are called LCAC's (Landing Craft Air Cushion) their used by the Marines to drop off any type of vehicle you can think. If I had to guess you wont actually pilot them and assault beaches. They are probably just used as the designated vehicle depot, like in every other previous BF game, the vehicles will be there for you to pick them up.

I did like COD4, but they have overdone that formula since. BF1942 to BF2 to BF2142 (forget BC2, that was Battlefield micro edition, still great but not legendary) and now off to BF3, the core of the game remains the same but they add some epic features and jump the game so far with each release. Between this and CS:GO coming up I have no time for another COD game. (Don't bash my CS love, yes it is the same thing over and over, but mod maps keep it fresh on a daily basis)
