Taxes are the one bill that people must be forced to pay so that they have the freedoms to say no to others. They are a necessary evil. Even as a libertarian I think universal healthcare is good for a society, although maybe not in America's case.

With the subsidies, it will crowd out normal insurance. They have said a direct move to socialism would be rejected, so therefore this was the way to get there. I am currently working towards a bachelor's degree to improve my situation. The idea that "working hard" will improve yourself is flawed. You have you work strategically. But that's an entire other issue. Sadly it's one nobody seems to be concerned with.

Their are people out their who if given a chance could be succesful and contribute alot to society but can't because of their situation are stuck and don't really have an escape route. I agree with you that the gov should not encroach on our rights. Making seatbelts mandatory saved a lot of lives and so it's a bad example. With that example in mind most people would not have a problem with the gov interfering.

With the subsidies, it will crowd out normal insurance. They have said a direct move to socialism would be rejected, so therefore this was the way to get there. They are only doing what they have said they would do. And like socialism everywhere else, the impact will be devastating.

I would honestly be surprised to see them try that. The increase would have to be astronomical when you think about the average age of the congress. I'm sure most of them spend at least $5K per year on prescriptions alone, not to mention hospital fees, or regular doctors visits. They would certainly be hard pressed to justify that kind of increase.

The thing is, she pays them hundreds of dollars every month so that they will take care of her medical expenses should she become ill. Here's the rub, she needs surgery or she will die. Actually, the answer is YES. Why? Because a gov't run health provider is NOT in it for a profit. No CEO's to pay. No advertising department to shovel money at. The reason I.P.'s refuse to render services is because it is not fiscally beneficial to them. Which is fine if its the auto industry,or banking,or any other private sector business. Here's the bottom line, you don't have fire fighter insurance do you? I mean that would be sill,right? Your house is on fire,the firemen show and all they want to do before putting the fire is out,is dick around with insurance. I mean, if your house is on fire,your house is on fire. And the kicker is,even if you had said insurance,well they could just say "Your house is kind of old,it's not structurally necessary to put that fire out. We know you pay us for insurance to cover this,but sorry."

Ok, The funny thing that you don't realize is that Obama himself said that an older woman should have been given a pain pill instead of the pacemaker she was given. The fact is that there is no money to cover everyone and everything publicly. The taxes and premiums are going to raise everyones cost for coverage. EVERYONES!!!!

How can you say capitalism is broken when it has created the highest standard of living seen on the planet? And the ability for any citizen to be successful. I would also like to note that our economy IS heavily regulated (and overburdened). For starters take a look at the tax code.
Failed socialist countries that failed and caused hardship and death on huge scales. Russia, Germany, China, North Korea, Vietnam. Is this the regulation and moral compass you would prefer?

Capitalism, unregulated and devoid of any moral compass, does not work. Period. It's been broken for some time now. Witness: Ken Lay, Bernie Madoff, Kerry Killinger, Richard Fuld; each more the rule than the exception. Corporations lobby to have regulations REMOVED so that they can profiteer unrestricted.

I'm sick and tired of liberals playing the compassion card and complaining about corporations trying to keep us sick to make money, as if the people running corporations aren't susceptible to the same chronic illnesses as the rest of us.
While I can admire their compassion, they don't seem to understand that they're trying to "cure" that which is allegedly wrong with the healthcare system by cutting its head off. You don't get to screw the private sector and then say that you're trying to help.

You forget that the people in charge of these corporations can still afford our current healthcare system because they are rich execs. The people who can't afford it have no power to contest it (the lower class). As for politicians who support the insurance company policies, they get free healthcare for working for the government, so it doesn't really affect them either way, and once they leave their position they have a nice check for "working" for them. In theory, anyway.

Here is the thing. We are not a purely capitalistic country. We have a mixed economy. While I'm all for restricting government expansion from where it doesn't need to go, we have to keep in mind that out government has plenty of social policies, such as public education.

They own the property, infrastructure, distribution nodes, banks for investment, etc. etc. They can say you own it, but just try to do what YOU want with it and you will be told you can't because it isn't for the "common good".

Wrong again. Totalitarianism's basic difference is the fact the government TELLS you they own it. With socialism they say it's the people, (pay attention) but the people actually have no control. Like I said, just try to do what you want with the so-called public property or asset. You can't. Like socialized medicine, it's called a public plan but in practice the government makes all the decisions. The public has little or no say in the matter. Perhaps you better look it up.
