Because I'm a Finn I'm proud of a Peace Nobel coming to Finland for the first time ever, but even if the winner was Iraqi, Chinese, Nepali or from any country in the world, my opinion would be the same --> the award was deserved and Kosovo deserves to be free. Perhaps so, but the Nobel Peace Prize puts focus on those that are NOT as known as e.g. Jolie, Geldof or anyone else struggling for peace. Those that are already known have often more means to do so with respect to publicity. I believe Ahtisaari deserves this prize, as he has actually contributed in many of the reknowned conflicts around the world as a mediator between parties that are often extremely opposed to one another. And many times he has succeeded.

With all due respect, dealing with political matters is often much more strenuous than simply putting focus on the humanitarian aspects of a problem, as I think many celebrities nowadays use their status to do. I'm not saying that is wrong, but Ahtisaari's one of those people dealing with the political aspects of it and actually negotiating between the opposing parties at a higher - and often more difficult - level. I think the Nobel Peace Committee made a very good choice this year.

I'm speaking about the Karelian Isthmus and the southern part of present-day Republic of Karelia (part of the Russian Federation). Well, we lost that war and had to cede those areas to Soviet Union - empty. 400 000 Finns had to be evacuated elsewhere.
