Saw Root at MANY clubs back in the day.....he ruled the local bands of the time. Saw him sweat, snort coke, do the gator, and pour beer on his own head. The man was an icon, and I for one loved him. RIP Root.
@hamman168 I saw him at Hard Times myself. He had an incredible bluesy band. He was definiely his own person. Do you remember me? I actually have one of his albums.
I saw this amazing character when I was in college in Washington DC in 1979. It was one of the funniest concerts I've ever seen BUT, the level of muscianship was very very high. I believe the sax player was named Ron Holloway who was a local jazz guy in DC. Thanks for posting !!!!!!!!
root boy was a wilkd man seen him many times in dc at alot of diffrent bar clubs seen him pass out too on stage he is very missed and a icon of the dc and georgetown tacoma park aeria
i'd check out root @ the backroom in college park md.. when he was done (and i was at a pleasant level of highness} my friends and i would go up the steps to the disco part of the place and score some sweaty ,hot, and horny disco ladies!!!! ahh youth!!
Oh so many memories coming off this...this was the favorite Root song of a great college friend of mine who passed away a few years ago ;( Also, I used to work with a lady who went to HS with him and used to party with him in Georgetown, MD...Oh, how Root is missed. So much joy and groove for one man to spread/contain!
i was lucky enough to catch what had to be one of his last shows at Tigers Pub in upstate NY I made a mono audio recording of one of the shows and still have it. wanna buy a copy ?
Oh how I miss Root!! This is one of his greatest and I still crack up over the phat sax on this. He, the band, and the Rootettes were where its at back in the day- and still are!!
God bless you Root! At a time when Americas was decending into terminal suckage, you saved my life and almost killed me at the same time, for which I'll always be grateful...
smoked a joint with Root Boy at the Marble Bar in the Congress Hotel in downtown Baltimore in '82, while he was doing the show........kept coming over to our table between stanzas and hittin' it.
yes Ron Hollaway was in his band..he's one of DC's finest...they just did a reunion last year of the band...

It was always great when Root would play this live and invite to fattest people in the audience onto the stage. Goddamn I miss Root.
Also saw him once at an Oriole game in Memorial Stadium. When I acknowledged him he was quite gracious
