Question, I thought you guys used a screen to keep the queen isolated within the hive so she doesn't deposit eggs in the honeycomb you intend to harvest. I didn't see you install or mention one with this hive. Is that because you want to maximize reproduction because they are new?
@mafiascaglione049, hi, european honey bees are generally calm, Wasps which are also yellow and black are not calm, most "bee stings" are actually wasp stings. bees die when they sting you. wasps not only survive but can sting you multiple times in one attack!
Quick question!! At 3:44 when he sprays the sugar water on the bees wouldnt that hurt them? the water on their wings i mean. if u can answer that would help!
"And your Lord taught the honey bee to build its cells in hills, on trees, and in (men's) habitations; Then to eat of all the produce (of the earth), and find with skill the spacious paths of its Lord: there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours, wherein is healing for men: verily in this is a Sign for those who give thought. (Surat an-Nahl (The Bee), 68-69) please think about them , be muslim be among the one who prospers
better if they dont sting you could let then buss around every which way they like and bets if it in a area that is loaded with flowers and trees aww i can taste the honey already ^,-,^ < lol druling smiley :P ' '
Allah says in the Koran that if the bees fail to vomit or collect honey the Queen bee beheads the worker bees god made the honey because it can benefit us humans. honey is like a sweet medicen it contains natural strength and is also a cure for cough
I think my neighbors would hate me if I started a hive colony. There is a hive somewhere around here because my tree has flowers and the bees are always in there collecting nectar. Then the flowers will die and fall off. Next thing you know I am raking up dead flowers.
Interesting :D Just found this video because I uploaded a beeproblem video, our bees are at our balcony in a apartment area, in a chest. Some day beginning of next month they are going to be removed. Wrong place to build a hive.
Did you know that bee's don't like things that put out electricity near their hive? Turns out the negative charge that builds on the bee's fur (static electricity) when they fly is often countered by other electric fields. This means that they can't as easily collect pollen (which is positively charged, so is attracted to the bee's negative static charge) and will desert hives where this is a problem. Great video, it's very simple and easy to follow!
Thanks for posting this! I got a small orchard and am really wanting to start a hive for pollination. They had bees here years ago in Western Kansas but there is a lot of irrigated corn and I fear their pesticides will get them. I may try though, I have wanted to since high school.
@chrissunshinetaylor well im from canada and we (my families business) usually have a queen die every 2-3 years. however that number can vary drastically if the bees don't like the queen because she is not laying the right kind of larvae they will kill her and try to raise a new queen. or because if from canada and we have harsh winters the hive might also die from the cold
There was a bee that came in through my window about 15 minutes ago and landed on top of my computer,WHILE I was looking at bees on the computer. How is that for a qoincidence ? I just sat there looking at it, and it probably sensed it and flew right out the window again. I think the bee and I had a moment of understanding.
@Tom6093 they have strong and well developed sensory organs may b that she came after the noise of the bees.

i m Entomologist and raring my own colonies. i feel that a lot of research on honey bees is still waiting for the world. you have given me a cue now i will start my work on it. BTW what do u do?
Always amazes me how they don't attack the farmer and waste their sting on the sting proof clothing...and die. Seems the bees I come into contact with need very little provocation (I've been stung 4 times in my life...which is quite a lot...and once I nearly died as I'm so allergic and my windpipe swollen...so you can imagine I go out of my way to avoid the little so and so's)
Dude... I love the fact that you added this video and its fun to watch... but it seems to me you need a little more experience. I found a few mistakes. 1 - you spilled the sugar water and did it in a dangerous fashion to allow some serious robbing, 2 - when you put the queen cage in you put it upside down. You need to make sure that it stays right side up so when the care taker bees die they do not block the entrance. 3 - the frames were not spaced right. But good job! Love to see more!
HI, Ok, so I just picked up a hive today of feral bees that a local bee removal person (beekeeper) sold to me. He said that it is best to start with a started hive (rather than a pkg.), one that the bees have sort of gotten used to and then transport the whole thing (box & bees within) to my home in the morning and open their entrance ways when I get them home. I just brought it home today & opened the entrance, so when should I inspect the hive? I notice some bees are dying around my yard.
I can not beleieve he just dumped the bees in like that, I was SHOCKED. Ur suppose to take the queen out and securely put her cage attatched to a board, then take out 4 boards and pit the bee shipping container in place d the 4 boards. Then a few days later replace the 4 boards. Hope this help! And keep building bee kingdoms!!

I am so happy to know I can still raise bees, plant them a healty enviroment! thanks I learned so much!
So...not to be negative or anything, but what happens if a storm comes by and blows the whole hive off from the base, seeing as how it appears to just be light wooden box?
@jmr1068204 The hive itself is really light but when bees settle in they add they own mass (4kg), wax, honey(10-20kg). full hive is not that easy to topple
For people who don't understand how important bees are, they should watch Dreamworks The Bee Movie. Very basic information even a child should understand.
Recent research found out that bees are doing much better in cities then in rural areas. And that the bees in cities are healthier and have bigger colonies. The reason is agriculture. In rural areas there are a lot of monoculture crops. The bees honey has more or less pollen from 20 species in cities it's 200 species. More diversity is better health. Plus people don't use pesticides in cities or at least a lot less.
That's a really interesting video. I loved the new honeycombs that were visible when Dan pulled out the shelf near the end of the video. Fascinating peek into a bee-keeper's life.
I want this video on my TV 630 unit.

Please enjoy some of my strange research into bees, the magnetic fields they generate and the possibly power we can use for energy generation.
I found that a compass will deviate from an active hive. It won't read North as normal.
The chitin of the bee has some strange electro-static and magneto-static phenomenon. They are so much more important than Humanity ever realized.

So...not to be negative or anything, but what happens if a storm comes by and blows the whole hive off from the base, seeing as how it appears to just be light wooden box?
jmr1068204 1 year ago
