  • Great Video!!!

  • Question, I thought you guys used a screen to keep the queen isolated within the hive so she doesn't deposit eggs in the honeycomb you intend to harvest. I didn't see you install or mention one with this hive. Is that because you want to maximize reproduction because they are new?

  • unBEElievable.... i'm gonna give this a go but i just gotta repair the hives i've got!

  • i did not know bees were so calm

  • @mafiascaglione049, hi, european honey bees are generally calm, Wasps which are also yellow and black are not calm, most "bee stings" are actually wasp stings. bees die when they sting you. wasps not only survive but can sting you multiple times in one attack!

  • that was intressting :)

  • I chuckled when you said "they don't like that." Very interesting video.

  • Great informative video.

  • FUCKING WIND IS FUCKING UP MY EARS

  • How healthy is it really to feed bees sugar like that?

  • so you can just take a foreign queen and all the other bees will accept it?

  • co wy takie macie wściekłe pszczoły?

  • what if the bees land on the fence???

  • @keendawg007 If the bees land on the fence, nothing happens because they aren't grounded. The bears get shocked because their paws ground them.

  • thank you. how did you know that the queen flew away the first time?

  • trying to figure out what's going on? no. they're trying to find a way under that suit so they can sting you...

  • shut up wind

  • I think my neighbors would hate me if I started a hive colony. There is a hive somewhere around here because my tree has flowers and the bees are always in there collecting nectar. Then the flowers will die and fall off. Next thing you know I am raking up dead flowers.

  • You know honey bees are really calm in fact you can touch them and they will not get aggressive or anything.

  • Interesting :D Just found this video because I uploaded a beeproblem video, our bees are at our balcony in a apartment area, in a chest. Some day beginning of next month they are going to be removed. Wrong place to build a hive.

  • OVER 9000 BEES!!!!!

  • all of a sudden, I want to play starcraft 2

  • Did you know that bee's don't like things that put out electricity near their hive? Turns out the negative charge that builds on the bee's fur (static electricity) when they fly is often countered by other electric fields. This means that they can't as easily collect pollen (which is positively charged, so is attracted to the bee's negative static charge) and will desert hives where this is a problem. Great video, it's very simple and easy to follow!

  • Hive Tool: Does it all

  • Thanks for posting this! I got a small orchard and am really wanting to start a hive for pollination. They had bees here years ago in Western Kansas but there is a lot of irrigated corn and I fear their pesticides will get them. I may try though, I have wanted to since high school.

  • too much wind

  • for the great final you should push the camera guy on the electric fence.

  • whare did you get the bees

  • 謝謝我學到許多在台灣所看及用不到的

  • good luck Dan, I have few hives with caucasian bees

  • I like polen

  • Rebecca black

  • I do not know how I ended up here tonight but I found it incredibly interesting.

  • @free2drm same here but I was glued to the screen, I wanna know how the new queen is doing now

  • @chrissunshinetaylor well its been over two years so that queen is likely dead or on her way out

  • @longliverocknroll5 how fast do bees normaly go through queens?

  • @chrissunshinetaylor well im from canada and we (my families business) usually have a queen die every 2-3 years. however that number can vary drastically if the bees don't like the queen because she is not laying the right kind of larvae they will kill her and try to raise a new queen. or because if from canada and we have harsh winters the hive might also die from the cold

  • i jumped at 5:51

  • LMAO the little song in the beginning and end of the vid HAHAHAHAHA!

  • is it therefor they like Coca cola? becouse of the sugar ?

  • BEES!!!!!!!!!!

  • thats a whole lot of bees!

  • Man, i hate bees i hope they go extinct :P

  • @hockeymick3

If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live."

    Albert EINSTEIN

  • @sspanzer27 Lol actually? do you know why :P

  • @hockeymick3

Type to the google ''Bees einstein'' click to the first page(thedailygreen and snopes ):))

  • beware of the bear!

  • I love bees :) and honey :)

  • does the fence kill the bees?

  • what are in those holes of the beehives ?

  • i'm afraid of bees but i like them when i'm protected :D

  • @szilike08 I can pet my honey bees

  • help i have a beehive in my summer house week 5 size of a tennis ball what should i do?

  • There was a bee that came in through my window about 15 minutes ago and landed on top of my computer,WHILE I was looking at bees on the computer. How is that for a qoincidence ? I just sat there looking at it, and it probably sensed it and flew right out the window again. I think the bee and I had a moment of understanding.

  • @Tom6093 they have strong and well developed sensory organs may b that she came after the noise of the bees.

one thing i should disclose that honey bee outclasses human being in some aspects of its life style

i m Entomologist and raring my own colonies. i feel that a lot of research on honey bees is still waiting for the world. you have given me a cue now i will start my work on it. BTW what do u do?

  • @PakiEagle1 Restaurant work !!!

  • @Tom6093 hmmm ok

  • Hi there,

Really good informative video. What type of hive is this?

    Thanks.

  • This looks really fun. I want to start a hive this summer.

  • Can you replace the queen for an old hive?

  • Always amazes me how they don't attack the farmer and waste their sting on the sting proof clothing...and die. Seems the bees I come into contact with need very little provocation (I've been stung 4 times in my life...which is quite a lot...and once I nearly died as I'm so allergic and my windpipe swollen...so you can imagine I go out of my way to avoid the little so and so's)

  • Where's the King?

  • Dear Sir, thank you for your video. My children and I liked it very much. It is very educational and well done. :D

  • Dude... I love the fact that you added this video and its fun to watch... but it seems to me you need a little more experience. I found a few mistakes. 1 - you spilled the sugar water and did it in a dangerous fashion to allow some serious robbing, 2 - when you put the queen cage in you put it upside down. You need to make sure that it stays right side up so when the care taker bees die they do not block the entrance. 3 - the frames were not spaced right. But good job! Love to see more!

  • HI, Ok, so I just picked up a hive today of feral bees that a local bee removal person (beekeeper) sold to me. He said that it is best to start with a started hive (rather than a pkg.), one that the bees have sort of gotten used to and then transport the whole thing (box & bees within) to my home in the morning and open their entrance ways when I get them home. I just brought it home today & opened the entrance, so when should I inspect the hive? I notice some bees are dying around my yard.

  • why to release the queen a bit later? so that she does not fly away or what? didnt get that

  • Just got my Hive up and running! so excited! ps im not a stupid person i know what im doing :P

  • That was pretty cool

  • i shivered when i watched this :$

  • i like keeping my hives off the ground. I am not sure of the best way. But, i don't like pallets. They draw insects .

  • BEES

  • Is there any regulations on beehives?

  • Bees are very important to our existence. If people would practice more organic growing methods it help out with a lot of problems.

  • I think the bees like you.

  • Are you the bee and honey maker man?

  • This is great... Every block should have one or two.

  • Respond to this video...

     Woww!! =D

  • i want to see this movie!! going to check out in web movie tube

  • Thanks, bees are great!

'Pollination the movie' on youtube covers all kinds of pollinators !

  • @BotanyVideo

Yes those bees are great in all videos too - the hive bees we see in this 'starting a hive' video provide humans with pollination & honey.

  • @BotanyVideo yeah we got to take care and learn to respect all bees

  • @BotanyVideo yeah we got to take care and learn to respect all kinds of bees

  • @BotanyVideo bees are not great they sting

  • I can not beleieve he just dumped the bees in like that, I was SHOCKED. Ur suppose to take the queen out and securely put her cage attatched to a board, then take out 4 boards and pit the bee shipping container in place d the 4 boards. Then a few days later replace the 4 boards. Hope this help! And keep building bee kingdoms!!

  • Very interesting. Thanks!

  • Nice educational video! thanks!

  • nice use of the hive tool

  • OH MY GOD - THE BEES ARE NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO MAKE THEIR OWN HONEY COMBS - PLASTIC - THIS IS HORRIBLE... JUST LIKE FACTORY FARMING FOR THE COWS AND PIGS - AND THE THEY GET SUGAR WATER - WHAT AN INSULT - AND HE SAID - THE BEES DON'T CARE - SUCH MONUMENTAL IGNORANCE.... they way to hell is paved with good intentions......

  • @tanteditastruppi

well if the bees didn't like it they would develop an attack formation using the secrets of strategy and sacrifice which was handed down by thousands of generations of bees before them. Indeed it is said that an angry bee will find a way to commit suicide for the need of many which outweighs the need of the one.

Or i need the toilet and look forward to more educational videos as I squeeze another plop out.

  • @tanteditastruppi Think of this. This guy is starting hives in the winter. Naturally, bees would have a store of honey by then, but this colony doesn't. They can live in winter on the sugar water until the flowers bloom so they can produce honey on their own. You don't honestly believe they take all of the honey from them, right?

You can't also compare cows and pigs to bees, moreso to sheep in the wool farming business. The animals get a proper home and in exchange for their products.

  • @tanteditastruppi The foundation (whether plastic or wax) gives the bees a nice headstart for their comb. You're an idiot.

  • thanks for this video it was very nice

  • Digging the 70' s head band!

  • dan dan the honey bee man!

  • thanks for this I want to start raising bees. the epa knows that the pesticide clothianidin kills bees and birds and continues to allow bayer makes and its everywhere now and monsanto coats their gmo seeds with! please ppl write the epa protest and demand non use of these pesticides. I am so happy to know I can still raise bees, plant them a healty enviroment! thanks I learned so much!

  • omg iwanna do this

  • why did i find this so interesting?

  • u r harming the bears

  • @zishan0111 I hope your not serious.

  • @Megoraxos ?

  • how can i buy some to make my honly?

  • Please enjoy some of my strange research into bees, the magnetic fields they generate and the possibly power we can use for energy generation.

I found that a compass will deviate from an active hive. It won't read North as normal.

The chitin of the bee has some strange electro-static and magneto-static phenomenon. They are so much more important than Humanity ever realized.

    watch?v=PXH5VoKg5Cc

  • I'm allergic to bee-stings, but this was really awesome.

  • so the bees shit in the frames and we eat the frames?

  • @ILIKESFLAN actually they regurgitate (Vomit) and that vomit is what we call hunny

  • @dburgos3589 So honey is bee vomit =/ ?

  • Does anyone else hear a funny sound at 5:50?

  • @JohnERakes that was a bee flying by the camera..

  • Very informative :D

  • So...not to be negative or anything, but what happens if a storm comes by and blows the whole hive off from the base, seeing as how it appears to just be light wooden box?

  • @jmr1068204 The hive itself is really light but when bees settle in they add they own mass (4kg), wax, honey(10-20kg). full hive is not that easy to topple

  • For people who don't understand how important bees are, they should watch Dreamworks The Bee Movie. Very basic information even a child should understand.

  • Recent research found out that bees are doing much better in cities then in rural areas. And that the bees in cities are healthier and have bigger colonies. The reason is agriculture. In rural areas there are a lot of monoculture crops. The bees honey has more or less pollen from 20 species in cities it's 200 species. More diversity is better health. Plus people don't use pesticides in cities or at least a lot less.

  • That's a really interesting video. I loved the new honeycombs that were visible when Dan pulled out the shelf near the end of the video. Fascinating peek into a bee-keeper's life.

  • It's amazing how important honey bees are.

  • Are bees really dying out? Cause according to this documentary i watched, if bees die out, humans die too.
