Hi - I'm developing a cheap grid tie inverter, I have a full set of the regs, so as to comply with the law on such devices. I already have a circuit for converting the ac in to 'full wave DC' in sync with the mains, I've called it the syncroverter, I now need a device that will push out a current porportinal to the voltage across it using some sort of switching converter, the voltage in to the converter sets the overall current delivered. Could I do this with one of yours?? Clv
In short, yes. "Split-Pi" devices are ratiometric and controlled via an isolated current loop interface which can be conected to a micro controller or PC. I should also inform you the devices can generate arbitary AC waveforms using the same control interface. Do you have a particular technology in mind for grid tie? i.e Solar PV?
Currently the devices are manufactured in low volume and assembled in England, however they still achieve 50 pence per Watt which compares well to existing DC/DC converters in the market.
Since the devices are not intrinsically expensive, volume manufacturing is expected to achieve significant cost reductions.

can you use this device as a voltage regulator?
if i want for example 18volts output but my input is a pedal generator or an ultracap that discharges slowly.

Yes, we have customers who use these devices specifically for interfacing to ultracapacitors and motor/generators
