  • Never mind the past, just enjoy the melody. Listen to the music and appreciate the instrumental accompaniment and the wonderful voice. Don't talk about politics.

  • love this song, loved the movie, every time i hear this brings tears for the lost native americans, thee american's, that were murderd and there lands taken from them, more like Genocide'', but i guess some say thats just history now, but i dont feel so''

i would welcome a remake of the movie ,by someone like Francis Ford Coppola''

  • Remember when this movie came out , and it opened peoples eyes to the truth about what had happened , and is still happening ( am thinking of what I saw in Alice Springs , Northern territories of Australia to the Aboriginals there ) . It is good to be awake . :) xxx

  • Beautiful uses of overlapping imagery.

  • Buffy makes my eyes cry....and my heart sing: uwhensa unaliyi: wado!

  • YOU HAVE A LOT OF GREAT NATIVES IN THE AMERICAS, AND HALF NATIVES AND QUARTER NATIVES SUCH AS RICHARD CHAMBERLAIN, JOHN DAVID CARSON, BUFFY SAINT MARIE, JULIE FELIX, SHANIAH TWAIN ... THE LIST GOES ON. JOHNNY CASH ALSO HAS NATIVE BLOOD IN HIS VEINS! BURT REYNOLDS, TOO, FROM I THINK THE SEMINOLE PEOPLE! TO ME, A MERE EUROPEAN, THIS IS EXOTIC - VERY EXOTIC! I MEAN, IMAGINE BEING RELATED TO SITTING BULL AND GERONIMO AND SO ON.

  • YOU CANNOT MOP UP THE MILK WHICH WAS SPILLED. BUT YOU CAN COLLECT YOURSELF, GO FORWARD AND NEVER, EVER, LET THE PAST RETURN TO HAUNT YOU. UNFORTUNATELY, SOME WHITE PEOPLE HAVE A COMPLEX ABOUT BEING WHITE, THE NATIVES KNOW THIS AND MILK THEM. BUT THAT DOES NOT GIVE ANY PERSON TO CALL THE NATIVES BY OTHER NAMES, SUCH AS THE DEROGATORY "IINDIAN" WORD. RACISM IS PURE IGNORANCE AND SHOULD BE STAMPED OUT WHOLESALE LIKE THE WHITE MAN DID TO THE NATIVES. PLEASE, BE LESS RACISTS AFTER 21-12-2012.

  • Brings tears in my eyes, because of a lost time.I love this song

  • I love this song.

  • Thank you Molly!!!

  • glad I found this thank you

  • THANK YOU NO MORE TO SAY PEACE OUT

  • First they came for the communists,

    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,

    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,

    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

    Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

  • Wonderful video, whenever I hear this song I remember one scene from the movie above all else...

The Colonel need an ashtray, a soldier facilitates by cutting off the breast of a dead Indian squaw & hollowing it out at act as an ashtray.

Not enough people saw or remember the movie, if they had the world might be a better place today.

    cont...

  • Lets hope we all pay better attention in the present & future that we remember the things we have done that destroy humanity & those that embrace & exalt it & act accordingly.

    Thank you :)

  • @Kinkspace squaw is a native word for CUNT a Native Woman is called a Woman or whatever her tribe calls Her... if YOU have no other word then it is "native woman" to you!!... despite this new nonsense of ppl being born in american land and old movies and cartoons depicting natives as "squaws","braves" and "chiefs"... Ignorance and lack of intelligence/education is the root of racism. So honour the true spirit of these ppl and respect them. Most of all respect each other

  • @daninjanizzo Oh I think my great grandmother would be fine with me using the world to communicate with others in a language they understand, being the proud Canadian Indian she was & married to a French man :) That was on one side of my fathers ancestry, on the other they were Irish & Saxon, (although allegedly witches) I won't get into my mothers side as that would really embarrassed you :)

You can call me what you like, I know my own heart & I do as my conscience dictates :)

  • thanks for this song -its great and takes a look at the time, as indians free nation with their free spirit ...my heat beets for them. .

  • Danke Buffy!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i would like to know if they are making a remake of soldier blue , because if they ever did, they should leave out the love story, between the cavery man and the women, and just tell the story of the indians and all the storys that happend to there tribes, the only soldier blue in it should be the cavery? now i know why there wore a yellow ribbon

  • FIRST HEARD this 1970 whent to see it at the movies , after that i would never watch any more cavery coming as the hero? movies, i felt that i had been manipulated? and deseived by the american hollywood crap good movie very under rated , i think that was in an atempt to hide it ? slag it of and it might go away ,without biting united states of america in the arse, but it didint and its still bitng them they should do a remake of it

  • Oui, elle a la meme voix que Janis Joplin

  • an eye for an eye

  • Buffy composed this song for a movie of the same title. It's available at NetFlix, but don't bother. The quality of her voice on the old vcr/dvd is horrible as is the acting. (Buffy's not in the film). The massacre at the end is heart-wrenching of course, but it's not worth sitting through the movie to see it.

  • Who cares the only true americans in america are those with feathers in their hair, every interbred yank should be ashamed of themselves for the genocide they and their ancestors are guilty of, yes its their country and they still live in reservations and the interbreeds live in houses work it out, sad they broke every truce they imposed upon them just like they do today, but they will never have an empire, and we can thank god for that.

  • I remember so many years ago..it meant a lot then now it means so much more. So beautiful but so sad for this world we all share.

  • Molly, I sneaked in to see the movie at the age of 12, living in Sweden. Still haunted by the scenes and as emotionally attached to this song now as much as back then. Great job with the video. Thank you!

  • I went to see this film years and years ago...it so affected me...so beautiful yet so so sad. Completely opened my eyes...John Wayne wasn't so true blue after seeing this.

  • How wonderful to hear and watch this as I watch my buffalo play in the rain!

  • sammi shepherds, soldier blue .is good too

  • AWESOME MOLLY I MISS YOU

  • Dette er så vakkert!

  • Colonna sonora di un film bellissimo. SOLDATO BLU.

  • Still remember first time I heard this song in the cinema about 40 years ago. It was great then and it is great now!

  • What a great song! And I remember the film.

It showed, that the White man tried to wipe out the Native people of America.

And have seemed to gone on to make America into one of the most violent countries in the World.

They have a lot to answer for.

Thanks for the great video I really enjoyed it.

  • BEAUTIFUL very MOVING

  • GET,S TO YOUR SOUL I LOVE IT WOW

  • first single i bought when i was 16, still a huge fan!!!

  • Good song Buffy but I hated that movie when I was a kid. It upset me to no end when the soldiers cut down the women and children and old men. I've hated Soldier Blue ever since. Love you Buffy keep spreading the word. Wado.

  • wowowowow my god is beautifulllll love love love thank youuuuuuu , from rio de janeiro brasil, peoples love love bye edileusa.

  • 1971 First saw this.

Use the land and appreciate it.

Not like us,the native americans were 'eco friendly' and 'green' way before it became the latest trend/fad.

We should have listened and learned but never do.

  • @eddy7elly7 : unfortunately, not exactly true... the western tribes were known to drive whole herds of buffalo off cliffs (which can be dated back to other far older tribes, who drove the Mastadon to extinction due to similar tactics). The sad truth is that the Indians fought wars with each other over land far before the European colonists arrived. If there is any comparison between what happened between the white man and the red man it is that of 2 wolves fighting over the same territory.

  • @TheRealNormanBates

    2 wolves?

One with a bow and arrow, the other armed to the teeth with every weapon known to mankind at the time.

Not seen wolves fighting on a level playing field like that before, hardly helped to educate did it.

  • @eddy7elly7 :

Once again, you need to read your history books. The Indians (especially once the war between the Indians and the Settlers reached the mid-west) were using the best guns they could get: pistols, winchesters... whereas the army was hampered by one could say the "military-industrial" complex and were stuck with single-shot long rifles. It is one of the many reasons Crazy Horse beat Custer. You should read up on how Lincoln tried to get the Union army to adopt the winchester.

  • @TheRealNormanBates

My very last word on this is simple, you call them settlers but I am sure the word 'invaders' would be more apt: no invasions on others territories would stop the mess we are in now around the world. Instead of seeking to point out the failings of the races time would be better spent trying to put things right but we are dealing with a major flaw: the human race. I am out of here, time to let others have a say though you make some good points, better to jaw jaw than war war

  • @eddy7elly7 :

The thing that destroyed the Indains were 2 things:

    (1) the perserverance of the colonists from the east

    (2) the disunification among the various Indian tribes.

In a way, you could say that what happened was akin to the 1994 film INDEPENDENCE DAY, only in the end none of the countries would have put aside their differences long enough to push back the "alien" menace, which would lead to their universal defeat (or in the case of reality, it DID lead to the Indians defeat).

  • @TheRealNormanBates I think you will find what destroyed the Indian Nation was :

    Repeating Rifles

    Gattling Guns

    Cannon

and the need for European to colonise a vast land, and rob it of it's riches.

Today USA are doing the same to other nations. they support terrorist, classic in my country N Ireland, the biggest donators to the IRA came from USA. One day USA will learn to stay out of other Countries fight. Remember one man's freedom, is another man's terrorist.

  • @eddy7elly7 :

One last one: my comparison of the 2 being "wolves fighting over the same territory" had nothing to do with technological advantage, but the cultural and mental state of mind. BOTH sides did cruel things to each other and their own. Besides, just because wolves are fighting doesn't mean they are both the same size or age. Usually you have a young, strong wolf challenging an older, more experienced wolf for mating/food. It is up to both to exploit their own potential to win.

  • 1977 den Film "Wiegenlied vom Totschlag" gesehen, wofür dieser Song geschrieben wurde. Geweint. So viele Tote, so viel Mord. Frieden endlich. Buffy Saint Marie sing! Was haben sie nur gemacht?

  • Love you Buffy~Love you mother earth

  • great wideo. Like seeing the mowie again. Cryed for several dayes when I first saw the mowie. I was 16 then. Sad, sad story, but also so beutifull. Thank you for reminding me!

  • not lost~only waiting to bloom again

  • yes...really want to believe that

  • C clair .... et un peu plus bourée aussi!! :D

  • Elle me fait penser a Janis choplin en plus jolie :)

  • Oui, mais Janis était beaucoup plus inquiet Molly

  • Amazing song and so much feeling put into that video! Great work.

  • Why Thank You !

  • @couscoustv Thank you for your kind words !! Love Molly ,,

  • There will never be peace as long as the white government is greedy. Our sons and daughters are murdered every day in the wars that America believes that have to involved in. If America kept there noses out of everybody's business just maybe our children would not have to die. Our nations security has been compromised for may years because of the unnecessarily need for money and land. We live in a conquered country that has committed ethnic cleansing which still continues today.

    Caesar be damned

  • @laur817 It would also help if people did not keep enlisting in the armed forces ! No soldiers = no war.

  • brilliant song sad film

  • Feels soothing to come from a peaceful country which stayed neutral in both WWI and II, are not into NATO, stays in peace with its natives and banned enslavement of humans in the year of 1370! Don´t say Sweden is perfect but we have come one slight mile on the way of human rights!

  • You are kidding right? Was selling iron ore to the nazis for weapons production a neutral thing to do? Is sametinget the same thing as granting the sami people independence? Swedish government is the same shit as everything else in this dog eat dog world.

  • Was that everything you could find in a thousand years of time? Yes, I think I´m proud! As I said, noone is perfect but some of us has a longer way to go than others, How many sames did we kill as the americans killed their natives? We saved a lot of swedish young boys lives during the WW II. Hitler was not a man to be trusted, you see! How come you are so angry? Anger feed hate. Hate feed wars!

  • What's with the 1000 years of neutrality in Swedish foreign policy? Are you being serious? Sweden has been at war with half of europe in the past 1000 years. Remember the 30 years' war? Sweden pillaged, raped and plundered more than enough not to be spoken of as a country that's all about peace, love and understanding. You should read your history, pal.

  • Come on guys give peace a chance !!!!

  • peace will not come as long as the vast majority of the human race are ass holes. Being an ass hole is a pretty big part of being human, so I don't really see that peace thing happening any time soon... It's a sob story.

  • @djkoolerich

Must agree in part, although others clearly do not.

  • what those others think is redundant. If they wish to live in la-la land, fine by me.

  • @fiffipapiljotten

Wake up and smell the coffee.

We were at war with Hitler and his nazi friends, not Germany. If we had all adopted Sweden's outlook we would all have been walked over, thank god we did not.

  • A neutral position means a neutral standpoint! No aliianses, no friends but hopefully no enemys. We were alone and our politicians had ONE mission - save the people´s life! And they did! I will not blame them for doing just that! They did what could be done! Other countries may have come to other conclusions! Freedom from allianses has a cost! Who criticises Switzerland for what they had to do? They kept and STILL keep the fortunes the nazis stole from mainly the Jews! The coffee smells nice!

  • Hey, eddy7elly7! Why not listen to another beautiful song of Buffy´s, "Universal Soldier". "He´s the one who gives his body as a weapon of the war! This is NOT the way to put an end of war"! And you were fighting WITH Hitler, or???

  • @fiffipapiljotten

Are you sure the coffee's nice?

Listen to your own words i.e. 'hopefully no enemies'.That's right, no enemies,no freedom,no country and no identity. Those non existent enemies would not have taken over the world and and done a by-pass of Sweden, have a word with yourself!

As for 'Universal soldier',that was sung in the 60's by Englishman Donovan ( the answer to America's Dylan) but not in my estimation.Granted it's a good song. You keep referring to history in your messages

  • I don´t have a clue what you are suggesting?? No freedom, no country a.s.o. This is a free country! Have you been here? Where do you come from? Don´t say?? Hide and seek?? Sorry, Buffy wrote the song, Donovan just happened to got the hit. If you don´t get the history right you´ll never understand the future!

  • @fiffipapiljotten

Give me a date in the future when despots, lunatics, killers.thugs and ego tripping nutters will stop trying to take over the world and torturing their people and we will all be able to take the'easy option get out clause' of laying down arms, let's call it the 'Swedish trump card' for now. As for the Swiss, well you may have made an enemy their despite your 'standpoint!' 2 wrongs DO NOT MAKE A RIGHT' why pick on them? Donovan's record, sorry your quote has never been proven

  • Are you asking me to tell when Utopia comes? Sorry, I´m not the oracle of Delphi!

This is sooo low, this is end of debate for me! Listen to the music and stop hating and you´ll see the world will turn a little brighter even to you, dear! Good bye and take care of each other!

  • @fiffipapiljotten

    a) you have a free country because others fought to protect the freedom you have,if you cannot see the forest for the trees that is not my fault.

    b) Jaw jaw is supposed to be better than war war but clearly that is not happening!

You are a classic case of someone in denial, why do you assume everyone who disagrees has hatred RATHER THAN JUST BEING REALISTIC?

I MUST HAVE HIT A NERVE. YOU CLEARLY ADOPT THE THREE WISE MONKEYS STATE (SEE NO EVIL HEAR NO EVIL SPEAK N0 EVIL) BYE

  • @eddy7elly7 Do you really tou think there any free countries ?

  • @eddy7elly7 Do you know who financed Hitler. I suggest you do some research.

  • I agree with that Nursec, we could all learn those lessons, the indigenous people of North America and Canada are quite inspiring.

  • Trading coats for land - sounds friendly enough, although I understand the inference,- swindling.

I did not want to make light of the content of the song, as I feel it is an esquisitely moving lyric, sung most beautifully. It was very touching at the time I first heard it 1971

  • We should take the lesson to live in peace with all Nations, reconcile with the land and Nature, living in Oklahoma now I am struck by the Native American spirituality, honor, and dignity. They have risen above the indignity and help everyone they can.We can all learn much!

  • When i say nothing on us in Britain, I am talking about the high cost of war, colonialism, civil war and invasion of Britain - nothing on us - means your not as bad as we are.

  • Incredible entertainer. Saw the movie in 1969 and was emotionally stuck by the absolute truths- we did the Native Americans a horrible disservice. We have much to learn about living in peace and about the laws of Nature

  • I agree - this film made me and others ponder the ways of the "eveil redskins". It was a shocking experience - but also a very important one!

BTW - this film was relased in 1970 (just FYI).

  • this makes me cry for understanding...how awesome is her voice!! i did not sing for years after a lost...sometimes i feel lonley and a lyric will make me cry in the middle of a song..i can still sing thank god

  • Great song from a great songwriter!

  • Great song saw the movie and it was a shock - nothing on us though in Britain!

  • not so sure about that...many of the people were of British ancestry that wronged the Native Americans- weren't they the ones that traded overcoats for land? Weren't they the ones that lied to the Indians and coveted then took teir land?

  • get a life people usa I mean

from the uk and remember when this movie first

came out the Ameican Indian people where probably the most mistreated group in this new modern era

  • The natives had no country they believed the land belonged to no one and that it was the great

spirit that owned all the land.

  • The indians had terrible immigration laws. Almost as bad as we have now. lol

  • It is occupied territory - nothing to do - can't fight this

  • OH WOW gives me shivers molly i just love it ty

  • i went to see this film it was great is it poss to get it on youtube i want to see it again

  • I rented the movie through Netflix a month or two ago. I can't recall being so shaken up by a movie. Thinking about it still brings tears to my eyes.

  • Lovely song. My daughter says she sounds like a sheeeeeep! Lol. Spiritual and moving. Thanks for posting.

  • I wondere if someone could enlighten me as to whether a place in (Colorado?) named after General/Captain Chivington still exists. He was I believe the bible basher/butcher mainly responsible for the events in the film, may he rest in Hell. Being English I wondered if invading other people's countries had been a good or bad thing.Would it be better to have left everyone in peace to sort their own mess out. Problem is the truth usually lies in the middle of an argument if you look for it.

  • The americans ( white not red) have suffered since taken over.History will show that an actor, Ronald Regan (most famously appearing in a film with a monkey/chimp in) had several terms in office and George ( I am trying to get my I.Q. into single figures) Bush did the same. You now have a coloured guy running the 'shop' and perhaps a red man running for office in the future is not a bad idea ref mariacandy 1000 two weeks ago.

  • @eddy7elly7 That coloured guy is playing the same politics as the Paleskins and Jews in the States have played! Look at Libya, Afghanistan, and the bullshit about supporting Israel! Barack should change his name to "Uncle Tom Oreo", because he's sucking the same dicks as Bush was, to use as methaphor!

  • True, violence is pretty common among humans--albeit, many indigenous societies around the world have been peaceful*--but there's no record or evidence of genocide existing in North America until the Europeans came. And the genocide of the Native Americans has to be the most successful genocide in human history. In fact, the Nazis were inspired by the U.S. relocation of the Navajo/Dine (see Part 3 of the Oscar-winning documentary Broken Rainbow on You Tube).

    ===

    *Hopi means "peaceful ones."

  • the white man made us many promises, they kept but one, they promised to take our land, and they did

  • C'mon people the indians were waring with each other and driving herds of buffalo over cliffs long before the white man came. Take some bloody responsibility and stand up and catch the modern day buffalo. (let the reader understand) It is no use whining about the past. Quit drinking and giving your kids FAS and in a couple of generations you will have control of this country again. You are a great people with a fine future if only you can quit taking soul destroying handouts from the white man.

  • Yes but have a little soul ! The whites looked saw and destroyed a way of life which was in harmony with nature . And telling people to go back to school is to say the least patronizing don't you think ????

  • RE: comment by Grassialkes 3 months ago. "White American and the English have a lot to answer for even now "

Ask any American & he'll proudly tell U that from 1776 England had SFA to do with the US. For Miller read Muller. For Smith read Schmidt. For blaming the English go back to school and redo yor history. For crimes pre 1776 we'll hold up our hands. Bue remember every damn European country iwas guilty. EVERYONE!

  • red indian next president it was their land after all

  • the yanks have got a lot to answer to read bury my heart at wounded knee then listen to this again

  • Saw the film, loved the song, still do, remember and learn, they still don't remember and learn, I'm ashamed to be part of the human race and this is still happening somewhere in the world right now, shame on you...

  • Can't wait to see her at Cambridge this weekend!

  • I was 13 when this record was released in Norway and I was in total awe from it, not quite knowing what it was about. But I did sense the message was important and of course as yaears went by; got to understand what it was about. Also have had the privilege of attending a concert of hers in my little hometown in Norway in the early ninties. Great artist! The spirits she believes in are certainly with her!

  • 1971 this came out, Buffy has a timeless record that will remain a classic. Surprised back then even allowing for the censor that it got passed(the truth hurts) which is why it still does not do the rounds. Hope Chivington is still in hell,he deserved it.

  • Still a great song after all these years

I too saw it first time round

I have never seen the Film doing the TV circuit.

  • My mum played this song to me when i was only 6/7 she told me the story behind this song and its is something i never forgot it made the hair stand up on my neck as a child and i still hit my heart ever time i here it

  • 30+ years on and she still puts shivers down my spine with this song.

  • saw this film in the seventies didnt understand it then,

what a voice she has ( haunting )

  • Remember this song from my youth. Liked it then. Like it even more now especially understanding the meaning behind the words. White American and the English have a lot to answer for even now

  • why just the english? The spanish, french and portugese all played their part too.

  • A beautiful song set against a tragic background. I'm sorry white America but you reap what you sow!

  • i renember seeing the film soldier blue in the seventies it was very sad

  • Simply beautiful. Little Big Man with Dustin Hoffman and Chief Dan George went a long way in setting the record straight. It's still unbelievable that there's town in Colorado bearing the name of Chivington, bible puncher & butcher of Sand Creek., one of the most shameful episodes in US Military History.

  • Thank you. This is so... I do not find words.... But you have embeded perfect pictures, perfect music.. Just simply 'thank you'.

  • 1971, the year the Indians were shown in a better light andnot subject to propaganda, what a film!

Loved the leading lady, but goddamit forgot her name.

  • I think it was Candice Bergen.

  • Definitely Candice Bergen

  • Thank you for that.

  • as an englishman...can i say sorry

  • speechless

  • My generation learn music with Buffy, and movie with Soldier blue/1955gen/

  • Wherever the White Man came , he only left destruction, hunger, desease and torture behind.

We have even killed all the most peaceful folks in the USA...

Great Manitou, I hope one day you will take me with you, cause my own God is a God of blood.

  • I'll wonder, if sometime my words would reach the ears of this beautyful and wonderful woman but I tell her, that i never forgor her masterous song for (now about) 41 years; best wishes from Germany

  • also recommended in this context is buffy's 'my country 'tis of thy people you're dying'.

    excerpt:

"and yet where in your history books is the tale

of the genocide basic to this country's birth,

of the preachers who lied, how the bill of rights failed,

how a nation of patriots returned to their earth?"

    a genocide basic indeed.

  • A reminder that America is a Stolen Country.

  • One of the first NA singers to make it, so to speak. She did concerts with Joan Baez back when I was a teen.

  • I watched Soldier Blue as a 19 year old male in the UK.....I came out of the cinema with tears flowing down my face.

Since then I have visited Sand Creek.....her song changed my life. I wrote "Sand Creek...lest we forget" as a tribute to her and the Cheyenne.

  • OHHH Buffy !! I love you.................

  • The Indian Earn't respect from WW2.

  • whauuuuuu what a voice....

  • powerful song wonderful

  • I first heard Buffy when I was in 4th grade and a teacher played her music in 1969. I am part Native Hawaiian and she made me really feel proud of my people for the first time. I am so happy she spends part of her time in Hawaii. She had done so much for all of us Native people.

  • this is a haunting song. i put this on the juke box over and over again when it came out and it made me think of the proud fearless indian tribes of america and how they were robbed of everything thay had....their land, their traditions, their lives. i always thought custer was a hero but when i read in depth about him i found him to be an arrogant vain and conceited man who got his come-uppance at the little big horn. i occasionally play this with my headphones on and remember it all.

  • i remember buying this many years ago,it still impacts now as much as it did then.

  • I bought this single back in .... oh.... 1970. I went on to read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.

European Americans were guilty of genocide. I think its about time they acknowledged their guilt and made proper reparation.

  • yes as a 12yr old child this made an emotional impact on me, but there were still cowboy films on tv-from the US-sorry guys! but i hope the next generation do it a bit better. Its us who are the savages.

  • The true people that this country belongs to.

  • ********* the song reminds me how we have learned to suffer... and to make others suffer when we don't accept their right to their own, unique culture....... and we (collectively as humans) allow bigotry, arrogance, prejudice to overide equality and acceptance..... and still continue to do .... we can always find an excuse... they called the native americans "savage" because that justified abusing them; killing them and stealing their land. ************
