A s6 like this tried to test me at 100 mph i ate him with my old 92 600sel V12. what a posermoblile, i was expecting a more worthy rival, it was way easier than killing the last 335i i met.

As much as I love Audi's A6/S6 line, its acceleration times are just a shameful letdown to say the least.

14.0 sec 1/4mile?!? For a car with nearly 450hp?! Just terrible. No matter how much it weighs. It's even more of a joke when you compare it to a standard-level BMW 535i that uses a much less powerful 6cyl and relatively same size/weight that equals its acceleration.

Too bad the U.S. never got the RS6 :(

Living in the northeastern USA, there's one major reason I would take an S6 over the Benz or BMW...Quattro. I know when watching these videos or reading magazines, performance figures are nice to look at but when it comes down to it when you have to drive a car all year around here that all wheel drive makes a big big difference.

So what the S6 doesnt match the brawn as the Bavarian or Merc, but it makes up for the power loss, in all-weather-drive-ability. Whats a performance car if it cant be driven all the time?

@6UNLEASHED EXACTLY, thank you. I live in Canada and laugh at the BMW and MB owners here who drop 90K+ on their cars and can't even drive them 4 or 5 months out of the year. That money is well spent in their garage. I'll make do with the extra $10,000 in my bank account and an Audi that looks better than the 5 series or E class.

@signeduplate Maybe its a match for an S6 for the A6 series is way too heavy in my op and thus, other cars need much less performance for equal acceleration. I know a Supra is a pretty fast fucker, and a little tuning done onto this jap devil will make it supreme to an S6 for sure since it is the mere epitome of a sports car, which the S6 isn´t, its just a sedan on ´roids. Though, I still like the V10 engine...

A fully loaded 550i/E550 costs about as much as the S6. And I'm pretty sure I've read in other magazines say they hit 60 in 4.9 seconds. I do wonder why Audi doesn't at least give the S6 450 bhp like in the S8... Not a huge jump but it just doesn't make sense to me.

edmunds seem like they have slower times than other reviewers because they do 0-60 from a full stop, without a foot of rollout. i'v seen as little as 5.1s 0-60 for the s6 and under 5s for the s8 from road & track and car & driver.

they compare the S6 to the m5 and e63 because it costs nearly as much and also has a big engine with big power and torque ratings, and it handles far better than e550 and even 550i probably.

In the US, the S6 is the highest spec midsize audi you can buy, it has a v10, so thats why its fair over here. I'd agree with you than an RS6 would be a more correct choice, but we don't have them over here.

first of all that audi S6 does 0-60mph in just 5.1 not what 5.7sec like what this guy is saying and secondly u cant compare S6 with M5 or E6.3 because their match is Audi rs6 which is even quicker as an avant than M5 saloon in 0-60mph and even £10 000 more expensive than these both cars which are being compared with s6.Lets not forget rs6 horse-power 572 which is even more than most ferraris except ofcoz Enzo.

Edmunds editors use Racelogic VBox to measure 0-60mph (0-96,6kph) and at least they're independent, having no interest in marketing this or that car

S6 does 0-60 in 5.7 sec. Which is just a steaming pile of dog turd since Lexus GS350 does the same 5,7 only it has 3,5 V6, not 5.2 V10. Sorry to wake you up

I have, but you should realise that not all engines produce give exactly the same performance. For example someone manage to go with the GT-R from 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds. Car and driver could only manage 4.1

Furthermore, even tho Edmunds did it in 5.7 secs.

1. The engine wasn't probably run-in.

2. The acceleration test may have been made by a fat Billy.

3. I read a S6 review in the magazine and they claim they did it in 5.3

its a shame that the engine Audi built for Lambo has to be de-tuned to have less power for its own models. case and point, the 5.2 in the Gallardo has roughly 500HP, the S6 is "entry-level" in respect to the Lambo's price of $200k+; so it would have lower HP of 435

German magazine AutoBild measured the virtually the same 5,6 s. Audi is known for overestimating acceleration figures, 3.0 diesel A5 is an example

you know...I would love to have the acceleration of the RS4 and the faster changing transmission (like my 06 TT 3.2 V6 DSG) or RS4 manual. The RS4 has an awesome "put you in the back of the seat take-off"

What can I say, I love both of these cars and it was a very hard decision to make.

It's so stupid, the Audi is a Quattro, and the BMW and the MB are rear drive only, the test was on dry pavement (Dah!) The test did not mention this fact. It is an astonishing feat that a (big)machine that ignores rain, ice and snow with two extra transmissions still holds up against the rest under ideal conditions. Audi is the greatest!

they need to compare the BMW and MB in the wet as well, because as the Audi will do well in dry , but can beat the MB and BMW in other weather conditions, and thats what Audi's Quattro 4WD is all about. If you want a car that will do good in any situation go with the S6 as the BMW and MB will struggle to get you 0-60 as quickly as the S6 can.

Stupid video. Audi S6 is in a different class level than E63 AMG or BMW M5. They should compare RS6 (2007) vs E63 or M5. S6 can be compared to BMW 645 or 540. With the same saccess they could compare Renault Clio to M5.
