@ imaketwinks: there was no Misdirection in the 40 man days. Also No aspect of the Viper. Tier sets had Spirit & MP5. Hell, the Striker set (T2.5) had Spell Power stats for buffing arcane shot. It was a very different game in vanilla (and I miss it :{ )

Say what you want about BM spec, but the pet for a BM hunter is amazing. I perfer to use a wolf, which is Furocious Spec (DPS) and he has 80 resist to all magics, 15k HP and 20k armor. He can tank pretty much anything. I was able to solo the quest "A Hero's Burden" at lvl77, which is a 3 man quest. Call me OP I don't care; I soloed an onlevel 3man.
anyone can solo the so called "3 players recommended quests" especially hunter, if you did it on a warrior or rogue id give you more credit, but on a hunter, jeeze, its eazy mode with them, i soloed it as a pally but i dont boast. GO solo ulduar if you want bragging rights.
This was back before Burning Crusade, when Blizzard had just patched to allow everyone access to the new TBC talents pre-expansion.
This meant I had all the funky new beastmaster talents and pet scaling, which was a bit too powerful ....
It also helps that Onyxia has knockback attack that causes loss of threat from the MT. Pets are immune to such knockback attacks (and thus the de-aggro).
This all meant that the pet held better aggro and took less damage than any player could.

i did onyxia's lair with 6 ppl today we had me a lvl 60 blood Dk a lvl 65 Balance Druid lvl 80 warrior lvl 74 ret pally lvl 60 and lvl 70 shadow priests and a lvl 80 DK that was AFK
That was never the case at level 60, even in full 40-man Naxx gear. My main character was a warrior in T3 and MT for our guild. Even with all that gear, still needed some healing. Actually tanking with the warrior I would have to wear some of my dps kit otherwise I didn't have enough rage to hold aggro!
I think there's probably videos on youtube of hunters tanking bosses like Nefarion and Onyxia, using wing clip and raptor strike. lol. Never struck me as a good idea.

Not sure with the release of WotLK, but I killed Ragnaros with a 12-man team just before the expansion and nobody had any fire res at all (including the tank) we just nuked him and he died well before the phase where he summons adds.
Yup and easily too. This was just after patch 2.0, so all of the TBC beta talents were available, but it was still original (level 60) WoW.
The hunter beast master talents REALLY buffed pets, to the point where, with growl on auto, there was NO chance of a player pulling aggro.
Same trick was possible with some Naxxramas bosses even, like Anub'rekhan, as pets were immune to his aura of damage that player tanks had to run from.
if anyone who plays on a european server wnats to do the recruit a friend thing let me know. so we can get the zhevra mount and 3x faster leveling. atm im level 15. and willing to wait till u catch up :D currently i play wow most of the day. but soon i can only play half of the day :( so lemmie know :D

On a normal Onyxia fight, you'd have 2 healers assigned to the MT. Thing is, my cat had max fire res, so took almost nothing from the breath weapon. Add in as much armour as most tanks and about 60% dodge and you see why Jeanne had little to do. :)

i done this with a level 50 pet it was harder but i had him l33t pet was bangalash with fully buffed with highest stamina buffs armor and fire resistance...but damn it wasent hard
You can see this group atleast has MC gear which usually has fire-resistance. My priest would murder for the staff jeanne holds :P benediction ftw :) 5/5 cause hunterpet's own :D

onyxia had been killed by 2 players pre-tbc. it was a warrior and paladin. 2 players killed onyxya. so pet tanking onyxya is nothing special at all, not one bit.
In TBC, onyxya can be soloed. in my server a paladin or druid solo onyxya regularly.
2-manned pre-TBC? That's a pretty awesome achievement. Do you have a link for screenshots or video?
As far as I remember pre-TBC Onyxia couldn't be hit by melee attacks during P2, so would have taken quite some time for that warrior to dps her down with just his bow/gun!
Basically you're full of it Sabreharyanto. Only a Pally can (and has) truly soloed Ony. There are rumors of a per-BC 2 man, but I've never been able to find the video so I don't buy it.

this is because the gear wasn't that great pre tbc so the bosses werent as extreme as they are now. Hunters pet didn't improve as they should have in TBC, cuz of this hunters pet are extreamly weak at lvl 70 when fighting endgame geared players. also how many HoTs did amber had on her? ;P a Hunter could never keep the pet allive whit the change to Mend pet!
The funny thing was that we had 4 healers who were prepared for a really tough time to keep my pet cat alive.
About 30 seconds in, one of them (a paladin) says over ventrillo (voic comms), "WTF? When's your cat going to take some decent damage? This is easier than healing our MT...(who was tier 3 gear)"

Blizz had just buffed the Beastmaster tree of hunters a LOT. Pets were pretty insane. Talented pet growl suddenly had a huge amount of threat.

Back then apes made *awful* pets. There were no talent trees for pets, so the skills they got weren't based on pet type either.
Simply, cats were capable of the highest dps, therefore had the highest threat.
With the amount of fire res, survival wasn't an issue, so maximising threat was important. :)

Apes make awful pets now. Crocolisks or bears make better tanks since 3.1. Turtles for anything where your pet will take a lot of damage.

You can see this group atleast has MC gear which usually has fire-resistance. My priest would murder for the staff jeanne holds :P benediction ftw :) 5/5 cause hunterpet's own :D

onyxia had been killed by 2 players pre-tbc. it was a warrior and paladin. 2 players killed onyxya. so pet tanking onyxya is nothing special at all, not one bit.
In TBC, onyxya can be soloed. in my server a paladin or druid solo onyxya regularly.

2-manned pre-TBC? That's a pretty awesome achievement. Do you have a link for screenshots or video?
As far as I remember pre-TBC Onyxia couldn't be hit by melee attacks during P2, so would have taken quite some time for that warrior to dps her down with just his bow/gun!

Basically you're full of it Sabreharyanto. Only a Pally can (and has) truly soloed Ony. There are rumors of a per-BC 2 man, but I've never been able to find the video so I don't buy it.
This is a pretty cool video. I didn't think a pet would have enough health or armor to take her.

this is because the gear wasn't that great pre tbc so the bosses werent as extreme as they are now. Hunters pet didn't improve as they should have in TBC, cuz of this hunters pet are extreamly weak at lvl 70 when fighting endgame geared players. also how many HoTs did amber had on her? ;P a Hunter could never keep the pet allive whit the change to Mend pet!

The funny thing was that we had 4 healers who were prepared for a really tough time to keep my pet cat alive.
About 30 seconds in, one of them (a paladin) says over ventrillo (voic comms), "WTF? When's your cat going to take some decent damage? This is easier than healing our MT...(who was tier 3 gear)"
