  • Looks like some kind of crazy fish you would find in fallout 3 or new Vegas...;)

  • Crazy thinking that if you or I trace our family tree far back enough, we'd all find an ancestor who greatly resembled a lungfish.

  • Next thing you know ... Hi flying penguins!! *flying penguins peck at swimming chameleon*

  • All in all it's just another brick in the wall

  • Holy crap. Thankfully no teeth.

  • this fish is amazing!!!

  • Thats it we're fucked. There's no hope for humanity anymore...

  • This fish was inside a brick in the wall...still surviving! And it escaped when the rain starts to fall again! Nex time I want skills such as those!

  • the lucozade advert is gay as fuck

  • they copied this from the BBC.

  • the cow thought the lungfishes were awesome!

  • thats probly the coolest fish ive ever seen in my life

  • once again, we can thank the random chance of genetic mutation for this clever adaptation.

  • that would be the best nap ever

  • REDDIT WAS HERE xxx

  • @ufodrawer Fuck off

  • but does it drink its own piss?

  • Hey creationists, still looking for proof of evolution??

  • @DStroyU hell yea !

  • That's evolution for ya!

  • I cant believe I actually masturbated to this.

  • Lungs and air breathing have evolved in a few aquatic vertebrates (in- cluding lungfishes) as adaptations to living in oxygen-poor water or to spending part of their time exposed to air (for in- stance, when the water level of a pond recedes).

  • now just how does evolution explain that??

  • @TalBass7

Actually, this is exactly the kind of thing you'd expect from evolution.

It's creationists who have a hard time explaining how such a jury-rigged adaptation is somehow the work of an "intelligent designer."

  • @ClumsyRoot Obviously god made it so we can find it on reddit and debate whether it was him or evolution.

  • @behinderteleberwurst

    Your logic is airtight.

  • @ClumsyRoot so your saying that isn't an intelligent design? isn't in amazing way to stay alive for that fish in that area?

  • @TalBass7

It's absolutely amazing, but let's look at how it's achieved.

Although called the lungfish, it doesn't actually have a proper lung (no aveoli, as in a mammal lung)--it has a swim bladder that's been modified to serve that purpose. Evolution works with what it has.

A designer, on the other hand, simply could have provided the fish with an actual lung, don't you think?

  • Stationary for 4 fucking years while being aware. What a horrible situation to be in even if humans possess this ability.

  • If it really WAS the ultimate survivor I imagine it would be covered in spikes... Or riding a motocycle.

  • how long do they live for then? if they are capable of repeating this process, do they ever die? hehe

  • 4 Years in hibernation!

Holy Shit! If I was a lung fish I could avoid the entire Obama Presidency!

  • I herd you liek lung fish

  • This proves God.

  • @Gutsyndicate

Yes, a fish that is clearly a link between water life and land life, with fossil evidence shown to make them one of the oldest species on Earth, *clearly* proves God.

In other news, the moon landing was proof that science is always wrong and God exists.

  • @LordPaul256 there is no prove that its the missing link. the fish doesn't have legs, its lung is well developed and its swimming wings are well developed.

  • @Gutsyndicate

The idea that there is one missing link is a myth. This fish is *A* link. It's not *THE* link.

C'mon. This is some biology 101 stuff.

  • @Gutsyndicate There are hundreds of "missing links" (actually there are zero, since they're not "missing" at all, but never mind that). Look at the mudskipper for another extant one. Google "transitional fossils" for hundreds of examples of extinct ones.

  • @Gutsyndicate I'm going to have to agree with LordPaul. This is some basic intro to bio evolution. Try to brush up on it a little before you go claiming that the existence of a well adapted animal is proof of god, when if anything, it's quite the opposite.

  • @LordPaul256

You still live in the early 20th century.

  • @Gutsyndicate by God who are you referring ?

  • @Gutsyndicate

    lol fail...

  • This folks, is our closest non-tetrapod ancestor!

  • @canmoore I feel a kinship to it... lol

  • @canmoore tetrapods were not developed from lungfish (diponi) but from ringe-finned fish (crossopterigii) [not to be confused with sarcopterigii (fleshy-finned fish), from which crosso and diponi developed]

  • he looks like loughing

  • This is the ultimate super hero

  • Wow...sweet!

  • that fish is a better survivor than Bear Grylls!!

  • WOW, what a soldier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Grab the bazooka we have a hell of a fight!!

  • no wonder this shit is still alive :)

    nie fish

  • THIS THING WILL NOT FUCKING DIE

  • WTF its the ultimate survivor

  • wow 4 years repeating the process!!!!!!! must be gaint

  • what!!!!!!! the water bear must be replaced with this fish

  • Wow...crawling into my own mucus sack, for a 4 year long nap....is it just me or does that sound SO RELAXING AND COZY! MMMMM Im jealous! 4 year nap........zzzzzzzz

  • amazing!

  • imagine the cameramen waiting 4 years 2 c a fish come out if mud

  • wow amazing!

  • WOW! what does it eat and drink for those 4 years though? can someone please tell me

  • @Lukeschedel It doesn't eat and drink at all, it derives nutrition from stored fats and muscles, just like a bear does when it hibernates.

  • this is so kool, i saw it in my science class

  • Unbelievable!!!

  • talk about a rough existence....

  • They make GREAT and unique pets, they live a LONG time and the DO NOT get along with ANYTHING! If it can fit in it's mouth, or be bitten off to fit in his mouth it will bite! I got bit by my 28yr old fish as I was cleaning the alge off the tank. It HURT and wasn't a pretty site. Out of all my animals this guy can bite the hardest! He is most likely the fondest pet I've ever had because he been with me so long and I tend to treat him more like a dog than a fish!

  • @ginko27 Seriously? Thats kinda cool! I mean....I guess its not cool that it bites the crap outa you, but still....seems like a cool pet!

  • My African lungfish is 28yr old!He has Never been out of water for more than a few min while I clean his tank, but he is VERY fast on land and can move across my livingroom in a few seconds.I had underground and a gravity filter but he loves to eat his tank so he destroyed my underground filter by biting the hard plastic tubes and crushing them.He lived with a nile catfish for years then he decided he didn't like him any more so he bit him but the catfish recovered and they are no longer together

  • One tough sum'bitch.

  • wow what a survivor Lol

  • @kevn101 poor little fishy

  • Go Little mud fish go!!!

  • OH NO NOT I!!! I WILL SURVIVE!!! cool fish...

  • but what about the taste?

  • At least in Africa they are "locally either highly appreciated or strongly disliked".

  • those fishes are awesome

  • Great video! One important correction, however. The lung of a lungfish is not a 'modified swim bladder' but the exact opposite. The swim bladder of most bony fishes is actually a modified version of the lung. The swim bladder in fish and the lung of land vertebrates are both derived from the primitive lung seen in lungfish and other extinct lobe-finned fishes.

  • Natural Selection at it's best

  • these would make good pets. every time you'd clean out the aquarium, you could just take the fish out and let it roll around on the floor

  • @schmidtbag except the fact that they look like poop, and nobody would like to pet that thing

  • @schmidtbag and it would run away! =D

  • @schmidtbag i got two!

  • That's evolution right there! :D

  • aww poor thing...

  • thats pretty cool. its like mastercheif.

  • I've always loved lungfish. Probably from my love of amphibians. Also, in the description it says hibernate, the lungfish actually estivates, to escape the heat.

  • wow

  • cool fish!!!!!

  • i just kept saying subhanallah

  • 4 years!! thats a crazy, cool fish if you ask me.

  • @sbushie im from the future......

  • wow thats amazing. thanks animal planet!

  • Thanks for posting, this video couldn't be better. It's excellent.

  • WoooooW sobhan allah!
