@conzalez94 That's Prince Morkie Dee of The Fat Boys, and it looks like it's a live version of 'Human Beatbox' which is on their first (and only good) album... :)
NYC used to be about Art,Anarchy, and peace. Now its all about gentrification and dressing a certain way so society can approve you-_- To me everything looked better back then, the trains, squats,Girls, cars, and a great community
'Unfortunately on the subways?' LOL...ah ha ha...yeah, all through out the late 60s and 70s the city managers and supervisors were ultimately bankrupting NYC, the city that was in their charge...ah ha ha...the irony of this statement.
Tears of joy are in my eyes! This is pure old school at its finest!! You couldn't walk thru Times Square in those days (1981 - 1984 or so) without seeing the guys on cardboard making those moves. I remember a friend saying to me at the time anyone could dance like that if they didn't have bones lol! The early 1980s were the greatest time; all kinds of music was popular from early rap, late disco, new wave, R&B, reggae, even country! New York Hot Tracks on WABC-7 on Fridays were must see TV!
Nope - The DYNAMIC Breakers Won - But for professional/Artistic reasons they dropped out of Beat Street the Movie - But they Still came to "Us" to do the Beat Street Strut Video
Whats crazy is that the black guys Mohawk is now Back in style LOL. Maybe Street breakin will come back. I know a few pockets where folks have started to gather but alot of cops don't like it. We will see lol.
Boy this sure brings back memories. Breakdancing sure was cool. I sometimes regret I never learned more beyond a pretty good Pop & Lock. Still I always loved watching neighbourhood kids having breakdance contests. Cool clip ! Never thought I'd see breakdancing and Leslie Uggams in the same place (LOL)
People basically performed a butchered mix of East Coast b-boying (windmills, backspins, swipes, footwork and baby freeze) and West Coast funkstyles (popping, locking, etc.) without realising they were distinct styles of dance with their own music. Because sythesised music was so popular at time a lot of people were dancing to beats you'd normally only use for popping, rather than proper b-boy funk.
The sad thing about this is that almost none of these kids ever 'made' it. 'Breakdance' as they called it was splashed over the pages from 83-86 and then just dropped off the radar. People treated it as a fad and I'm not surprised: everyone who was new to the dance was doing the same shit as everyone else because there was this idea that you learn 'moves' and then you can 'breakdance'.
Yoooo BIG THANKS for uploading this. You Are the Fucking Man!!!

Break dancing and popping quickly died around 1985 after Krush Groove came out.
