  • Arch beats Ubuntu any day of the week. Plus, there are videos on Youtube that can walk even brand-new users through installation and help them pick a desktop environment. Plus, the package manager is really easy to use.

  • 1. "Software centre hides stuff" - no shit man, it was written to do that! Not everyone cares about libglibmm-2.4-c2a etc., most just want to install apps.

    2. "Mono is included" - you can uninstall it, it doesn't remove ubuntu-desktop.

    3. apt-get man page has --no-install-recommends as the FIRST DAMN OPTION it documents!

    4. Keeping broken packages in the index WILL eventually bite you. Either fix your package's dependencies or install them (in this case, Wine is missing lib32nss-mdns).

  • You average load is 0.2% when you show the CPU usage.

Theme can be changed easily. Default themes are there to be changed.

The OS hides stuff from users as its made for new users

The Ubufox etc allows users to easily install apps. If you prefer you can use the minimal and build up rather than removing stuff

You can install wine with the --no-install-recommends (Try reading your man pages)

  • @hujson77 arch's pacman is awesome. net/freebsd's pkg_add is good, too. and i also like urpmi, although it has some hiccups. these are the best i can recall off the top of my head. :)

  • @hujson77 yeah, both are crap, but at least you can force install stuff on rpm-based distros without apt/synaptic insisting on removing it the next time you use it. yum only says 'RPMDB altered outside of yum' and that's it.

  • Haha. I thought you were gonna kill yourself in the end.

  • Great. Now we have the linux community becoming like Windows and Mac fanboys. Settle down Beavis.

Many distros are out there which is the beauty of Linux. Use what you like and let others enjoy the distro they like.. Linux whiners are worse then other OS fanboys. KDE sucks! Gnome Sucks! blah blah blah

  • Ubuntu is usually the first distribution which people use when they're switching to Linux that's a fact because of it's marketing which is absolutely fair enough.

Now also Ubuntu, for a beginner distro focuses on adding really new stuff which is not tried and tested (GRUB2, Pulseaudio etc). However upgrading to the latest version of Firefox can be annoying for a new user, get my point here?

  • holy shit I love your accent so much.

  • In the UK we say be-ta not bay-ta, we also say roo-ter not row-ter for router.

  • Your doing it wrong.

Neither Grub nor Grub2 required 30 seconds.

If you don't know how, learn how, or pay someone that does.

    P.S. It's "Bay-Tuh" not "Bee-Ta"

  • @starcannon

He has used Linux for 8 years, you fuckwit. He knows how to use it. As for as the way he said beta, he is british! He can say it the way he wants, so fuck off.

P.S. If you are going to criticize him, make a bloody video! You have zero uploads and 2 subscribers. He is making his own website, I don't see you making one.

  • 8 years of using Linux, and he can't configure Ubuntu properly?

He should give up, and buy a Mac.

You don't see me making a website, therefore I am not nor have ever made a website? Yeah... Okay... that is logical.

  • Hmm, lets see, well it's known that if you have GRUB2 installed on the MBR of a different hard drive than the one the Linux system is installed on then it does take a long time.

Also it's my accent, I don't know I've you've realised that people on Youtube come from different parts of the world?

  • I keep my mbr on my first drive(/dev/sda), and I keep my OS on my second drive(/dev/sdb). I have never witnessed on my hardware that obscenely long load time for Grub2, or Grub, or Lilo; like I said, your doing it wrong.

I will give you credit on the fact that apt is a bit sluggish when synching its database though. However, I can wait the whole 5 seconds, and most of us can; I still saved a lot of time not having to drive down to a store to get my software.

  • Are there more efficient Linux distro's out there? Sure, with out a doubt. Is Ubuntu giving Linux a bad name, absolutely not. Your welcome to your opinion, but that does not make it valid. You don't like Ubuntu, cool, we all get it. So don't use it, simple as that. Or go ahead and torture yourself doing and using things you don't like(more entertaining for me to point and laugh at you in your videos).

  • Ubuntu is bad in my opinion, becuase it is creating a bunch of freetards who say: "Linux is perfect, open source is the way, MIcrosoft is evil etc." That is the main problem that I have with Ubuntu. As far as the opinion being valid, that is irrelevant. If you're going to point and laugh at YouTube videos, that just shows how pathetic you are.

  • @Asatru19

First, I'll address your last bit; You sit there labeling people "freetard" based upon the OS they use and you call me pathetic...

Second, there will always be fanbois, in every arena. Your bigotry based on a vocal minority does not bolster your position that Ubuntu is bad.

Finally, crusading to save people from Ubuntu, is just assinine as crusading to save people from Windows or OSX. You sir are a hypocrite, as is the Video Poster.

  • I am not bigoted in any way, the freetards are not only using Ubuntu, just a majority of them. And as far as being a hyprocrite, everyone is a hypocrite to a degree, including you. Also, you seem to enjoy bashing TechSnap, both here and on his channel page. Tell me, who is more pathetic here?

    P.S.

It's fan-boys, not fanbois. And just because they will always exist doesn't make it right.

  • Gentoo is the best technical distro for power users. Portage FTW!

  • Great video man Its funny how all the fanboys here are trying to explain it to u lol.

  • You simply want a minimalist version of Linux. You should have known that Ubuntu is geared toward the "general crowd" and therefore it includes several things by default because some people are "too dumb" to install it themselves. If you're this tech savvy, stick with something like Arch Linux and be done with all the preinstalled crap. But for the general public, they don't know the difference between apt-get and yum.

  • @mtvideoz I use Slackware. My point is that Ubuntu is like this yet everyone uses it, it's giving a bad impression of Linux as a whole.

Mandriva/openSUSE are a much better choice for new users.

  • It's like this because everyone uses it.

  • @Techsnap

I think the problem is that ubuntu is ideologically geared, it wants to take over the desktop market from MS and so the default setup is designed for your grandmother to be able to use it. whcih of course is still impossible because its still too technical.

  • lol Linux sucks.

  • I don't think Linux sucks. But I don't like Ubuntu.

  • the bluetooth is part of gnome geez who is this kid? Vince epic...

  • The bluetooth thing is a part of GNOME.

  • No it's not a part of GNOME. It's an optional extra.

  • You sir are a irritating limy ASS,

Don't like Ubuntu..change distro's, nobody put a gun to your head to install it.

    sudo apt-get --purge remove Techsnap

  • I'm not using Ubuntu. If you don't like stuff which is picking out proper reasonable flaws than don't watch the videos.

    Simple!

  • Wow.. go Vince, this is great sure makes Ubuntu look bad :)

  • Brilliant rant, Vince. Loved it.

  • great stuff man! Ubuntu is obviously biggest fail in history of computing :)

If you want easy to use good linux distro - Opensuse is the only way. If you have time to learn - Arch or Slackware are good choice.

  • I second arch!
