  • You just saved my video I worked on for two days. Thank you!!!!

  • @characteravatar Great, I'm glad I could help.

  • My green bar isn't like that. I wanna make videos, so I had to download clips from YouTube. When I convert it (sometimes avi and sometimes wmv) and import it, sometimes theres the green bar, but I see the entire video, but the green bar is in the way. Plus, the colors get all fucked up ( I don't have xvid.) Any help?

  • @JrGamer27 Hmm, if the other fixes I linked to don't apply and it happens with both avi and wmv then I must say I'm stumped on this one.If you do happen to find a solution that works for you aside from just bootlegging and using a different video editor, let me know so I can add it to the list of possible solutions for people. It seems like WMM can run into a number of green bar problems with a variety of causes and solutions.

  • THANKS YOU SO MUCH DUDE!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! YOU THE BEST!!!!

  • @PressPlayProdukter

My pleasure, I'm glad it helped.

  • @TheStoasterRisen Me to now i can make more videos on my chanell thank you dude!

  • Disabling the Xvid codec worked, thanks for reminding me.

  • @Zlandael

    Cool, glad it worked.

  • This helped me a lot! You are my savior! LOL Thank you so much!!!! ^_^

  • @lill3al3ytearz

    Great, glad to help.

  • AHHHHHH!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! This video saved me days of work! Your awesome man, thankss (:

  • I know how to fix it easier than that! :) Save your video in WMM as a DV-AVI (NTSC). Then when it is published make a new file in WMM. Import that video and click/drag it into the timeline. Save the video as Windows Media VHS Quality. It works for me everytime! :D I do the VHS quality so the quality is smooth.

  • :((((((( It still didn't work for me :(

  • @franbios

Well that's no good, have you tried the other fixes mentioned? Let me know if you find another solution.

  • @TheStoasterRisen Its ok now :).... I didn't know about the "option" settings in Movie maker :) but thank you varyu much :)

  • @franbios Great, glad it got sorted out.

  • thaaaaank youuuu! really helped a lot :)

  • @rstar1102 great, glad i could help :)

  • Thank u so much! This tutorial helped a lot! and i agree on what you said in the end "you will have to re edit *something something* pain in the butt" =))

  • whats the show?

  • @Moonskind

It's an anime based off the Disgaea game series. I think I only had an episode or two, not sure how many they made or if it turned out to be any good.

  • thank you so much! this is the ONLY solution that worked!

  • @derangedinsanity87

Yeah, it was the same for me and was kind of a last ditch effort after everything else I could find failed. I hope you stumbled across this before being frustrated by too many other fixes.

  • Surprisingly, checking (not unchecking) the ffdshow compatibility solved the problem for me !

Thanks for mentioning it, I was starting to get really angry with my computer ^^

  • @tauruxbis

    Glad it got sorted out.

  • you sound, alot like jesse eisenberg:) lollll.

    but thankyou for this<3

  • @fuuurealbritney

I had to search for who he was, but yeah i can kinda hear the similarity. My wife insists that's crazy though. =-P

  • hay i downloaded and converted i just dnt know how to use them after how do i save and so forth please can u give me instructions

  • @TheArtisticBeauty

Sure. If you're using Prism, it will say where it saves to in a bar to the left of the convert button. If that doesn't help, just try searching for the file name in the search bar(found when you click the windows start button). Make sure you use the .wmv instead of your old file. If it isn't immediately apparent which is which, you can right click and go to properties to find out the file type.

The just go back into WMM and import your new file.

  • so i have to do this every time i want to edit a video?

  • @TheArtisticBeauty

I would just convert any video clips you want to use before editing with windows movie maker, yeah.

  • Worked great. Thanks!

  • @DonBortz

    Awesome, glad it worked =-]

  • tried it and worked fine for me so far - thank you =]

  • @soggyshoesofdoom

    Excellent. =-]

  • So I used the Prism converted, did everything as instructed, loaded a file into it and then converted that file, everything was good.

Then my 2nd step was load that clip into Windows Movie Maker, finished all that and finished the project I was doing and after I published it, it still had a green bar.. any ides?

  • @Mearonm

In my experience, it should have been fine as long as you converted your raw footage into wmv(are you sure the output on Prism was wmv?). Since that didn't fix it for you, I guess all I can suggest is that you look into some of the other fixes out there in case one of them will work for you.

I suspect this problem can have multiple causes. As such, the solution may be different for different computers. I linked a couple other possible solutions in the description box.

  • @TheStoasterRisen Yes, I double checked the output format which is near the bottom left and it said "Output Format - .wmv". But then again when I did hover my mouse over the file when it was loaded into WMV, it said the file name for example TheTree12312.avi, Which I found pretty weird (I checked this after I started my new project) But I am totally puzzled as to why it didn't say it was in wmv format now since I used the Prism converted, I hope im not bugging you too much with my problems! sry

  • @Mearonm

    @Mearonm

Ah, I think I know the problem. When you convert the file, it doesn't actually make the avi into wmv but rather makes a wmv copy of it. You probably used the original avi when you went back into movie maker.

I'm not sure where the default place is for prism to dump the new (wmv) version of the file, so you can figure that out and look there or just type in the file name to the search bar on the start menu.

Let me know if that works.

  • @TheStoasterRisen Ah yes you were right, I went digging and found it in the Recently Changed folder, I am running Windows Vista. Once I checked the file carefully it said wmv so I knew it worked and now I am good, thank you very much for your help kind sir, you have been of great help. For your great help I shall subscribe for I owe you. Thanks once again man im sorry if I have been tampering you too much these couple of days hahaha, thanks again!

  • @Mearonm

Excellent, glad it finally worked out. Don't worry about needing to ask questions, it's my pleasure to help out. I know I would have certainly liked to find this fix when I was having the same problem on WMM.

Don't feel like you have to subscribe, this video isn't at all representative of most of my channel. The majority of my videos are just rants on current events and complaining/joking about religion. Depending on your views, you may very well dislike most of my videos.

  • @TheStoasterRisen Nice, im glad you understand where im coming from. And hey I said I would subscribe so I must keep my promise.

  • @Mearonm

Haha, alright well I hope you enjoy future videos then. Of course, if you're opinions vary greatly or my stuff just isn't otherwise up your alley, I wont blame you for unsubbing. Have a good one. =-]

  • Thank you sooo much!!! It works like a charm now!!

  • @autumnrose3

Wonderful, glad it worked for you. =-]

  • thank you- the green bar was really starting to piss me off lol

  • @JaYnEsAyZ

    Glad to help. =-]

  • I didn't use that converter because I had one already but then I tried changing my video files to wmv and it WORKED :D thanks for the help. (also I unchecked xvid just to make sure xD )

  • @clairechiisan

Yeah, it shouldn't matter which converter is used, they all do the same thing. Glad it worked for ya. =-]

  • Thank you i clicked on the bottom link and it worked !

    Thanks :) !!

  • @KayleighAnne97

    Glad to hear it =-]

  • You ROCK. Took me two days to find this answer- EVERYTHING else I found online talked about xvid (which I didn't have) or Codecs (which I know nothing about). Awesome, simple solution. Thanks!!!

  • @PortlandILove

    Awesome, glad it helped. =-]

  • the video quality went WAAAAY down when i converted my AVIs to WMVs. solution???

  • @s0c0urt

Hmm, I'm not sure about that. I didn't notice any change when I was going through this stuff.

  • @TheStoasterRisen Freemake Video Converter retains the quality. yay. it's pretty epic too, free and no watermarks.

  • @s0c0urt

Excellent. I'll have to keep that in mind. Thanks for letting me know. =-]

  • @s0c0urt

Turns out I did indeed need that before too long. Thanks again for the tip. =-]

  • @TheStoasterRisen isn't it just epic beyond words??? i also needed something that resized my videos (and not as in making it 4:3 or 16:9) i'm talking about stretching it from 640x480 to 700x480. wah! i love it!

  • @s0c0urt

Indeed. It's certainly a better converter than Prism(which I think may not be free anymore).

  • I need serious help on this...

I tried the Xvid solution, but Xvid doesn't appear in the codec list, and enabling the compatibility rendering doesn't help. The video converter didn't fix the green screen (it looked all the same after converting), and the hotfix I tried kept saying *there's not enough storage*. Disabling everything other than the AVI decompressor made the video go black. I figured the best solution would be trying to get Xvid onto the codec list, any idea how I can do that?

  • @FaustTheShaman

Well if you don't already have xvid on there then it isn't your problem. Adding it wont help anything.

Are you sure the output on your video converter was wmv? Also, are you sure you used the wmv files instead of the avi when you used windows movie maker after converting? It's probably a dumb question, but worth a shot.

Otherwise I'm a bit baffled. So far I haven't heard from people having this fail and thought getting away from avi files should be a sure fix. Sorry =-[

  • @TheStoasterRisen Hmm... so you mean I should publish the video, get the green bar, then use the published video in WMM and publish it again in the new format? I guess I'll work on it a little more...

Also, I think that WMM maybe published the video already IN .wmv format, but I'm not certain.

  • @FaustTheShaman

No no, you need to convert your raw footage into wmv files before editing/publishing. If you've already done all your editing, there's a trick in another video that can help you avoid re-editing your project. Just click the link in the red annotation near the end of my video. Sorry for the confusion.

  • @TheStoasterRisen I see. The problem is that my raw files are mp4 rather than avi, and it won't recognise them even if I rename them. Any ideas? -_-

  • @FaustTheShaman

Does the video converter you're using not convert mp4 files? Or do you mean that the trick in 9velcro's video doesn't want to work?

If it's the former than I suggest looking for a different video converter. If it's the latter, than you may want to send him a message to help figure it out. Of course, I'm happy to help, but he may be more knowledgeable on the process and potential problems.

  • @TheStoasterRisen It's the re-naming trick. It won't recognise them as the mp4 files after I converted them. It's ok though, I took the trouble of re-editing the video with wmv files, so now it's online and well.

  • @FaustTheShaman

Ok, well at least it worked out in the end. I haven't tried the renaming thing myself since 9velcro's video was after I ran into this trouble and ended up re-editing everything. Hopefully other people will have better luck.

  • @TheStoasterRisen Okay, so here's the thing. When I publish the video from WMM, the file is .wmv

I tried converting it to wmv (which was obviously pointless), and then putting it into WMM. When I re-published it, the green screen was still there. I also tried converting it to .avi, but WMM wouldn't take that file.

  • thank you, man. i was able to finish an important video because of ye.

  • @musicaleclecto

Excellent, glad it worked for you.

  • well its my frist time doing it and it worked with ease and i didnt have to dl some conveter and all this mess

  • @kazo420

Yup, that's probably the case for most people, which is why I mentioned other fixes first in the video and provided links to some in the video description. This is just a simple work around if the other solutions have failed for people.

  • fuck all that work just go to tools then options then click compatibility tab click on restore all defaults then in the box above unclick every thing but the avi decompressor and there u have it green bar thing is gone hes just running u around making u dl some shit u dont even need so your welcome every one

  • @kazo420

Unfortunately that doesn't work for everyone. If it did, I wouldn't have gone through all this trouble. As I said, this is for people who haven't had any luck with the other fixes out there.

  • thanks for the video ;) helped a lot!

  • @JDaragas

Excellent, I'm glad it worked out for ya. =-]

  • i fixed it if any one wants to know how PM me also his way works he just forgot a step

  • i love u (no homo).... i mean thx

  • @rockstar21o

    Glad it worked ya. =-]

  • i tried all the other methods to get rid of the green screen and none worked. this did and at first i was like dam cause I had already made a video with alot of editing and splicing of clips and i didnt want to do that again.i found a way to use your method and make it so that you dont have to re-edit your movie but rather trick wmm. I wasnt sure if it would work and then it did. This saved me hours. Anyone who wishes to know how to use this method just ask and I can walk you through it.

  • @9velcro

Excellent. I'm glad it worked out for you and you didn't have to redo all that editing.

  • @9velcro

I'd like to know how you did it.

I have a video all cut up and ready to go, but unfortunately I find myself in the same boat as TheStoasterRisen. Finding I may have to re-edit my video... You say you've got a way to 'trick' wmm, Please share....

  • Thank you so much.

  • so this will get rid of the stupid green bar if I us this in my movie 4 sure?

  • @Samfeeney64

This was the only thing that worked for me, but I suppose it just depends on the cause of the problem. There are a handful of fixes that have worked for others but didn't for me. You can check some of the common fixes, there are links in the description box.

  • I love that show playing I for got the name I know it starts with a D

  • @Samfeeney64

It's Disgaea. I haven't watched much the show, but enjoy the games quite a bit.

  • @TheStoasterRisen did you know they made another Disgaea it's called Makai Senki Disgaea 2

  • @Samfeeney64

A game or show? They've turned out quite a few games(1 through 3 and some spin offs). I've actually only played 2, but it was incredible. Makai Wars and Phantom Brave are pretty good too if you enjoy the Disgaea games. They're similar in presentation and gameplay since it's the same company.

  • i did it it still has the green bar and im going to go crazy soon

  • @rcfetish

Are you sure you used your converted file and not the original?

  • hi , yes this did help , but after ive published my movie after like 30 seconds it stops and freezes but the seconds are carrying on but it stays stilll? any ideas

  • @oTelevisionwatcher

That is a bit odd. I can't say I've run into that problem. You've probably already tried it, but I would suggest trying a different video player or republishing the project.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help on this one.

  • Wow, I had this same exact problem two weeks ago, and went to the same site, except I downloaded Any Video Converter instead.

Interested in the anime you have playing, do you know the name off hand?

  • @uBeR1337gUy Any Video converter is slow.. good but slow. I use free vdieo converter from koyotesoft but one has to buy a license for it to work proper. it is FAST though.

  • @Vogter2100

Prism is a bit slow for larger videos, but I'm just too stingy to pay money for a converter. Sadly the video I had to convert for my trolls video was Lord of the Rings, so that took quite awhile.

  • @TheStoasterRisen Anyu video ran my pc into the ground man. And a 4 minute video to 40 minutes to convert. The other I paid for, 10 us dollars, converts a 4 min video in 3 minutes.

  • @Vogter2100

Well that's cool. I can certainly see why you'd buy it.

  • @TheStoasterRisen that and the fact it gets updated at least 2 times a month. Very active programmer that made it.

  • @uBeR1337gUy

The anime is Disgaea. I don't know if the series is actually worth watching, I just used it because this was a short clip I could convert quickly for the video.

It's based on a video game series by the same name. If you like games like Final Fantasy Tactics or other grid based strategy games then I would definitely suggest it. I think they've made 3 of them so far along with many very similar games by the same developers.
