hehehe my question is? Why they get something new and not try to steal and ideas made by Apple? BB Company should be more original. Devote yourselves to get something better (NEW) to be surprised again! and fail to see what works best taken out of something that Apple already has put the idea!
BE ORIGINAL!! WHY A TABLET LIKE APPLE!? CREATE SOMETHING NEW!!
@rousbellm31 Apple didn't come up with the idea for the tablet. Archos had one years before the iPad. Plus this Playbook will probably outshine almost every feature on the iPad except maybe screen size and the number of apps available.
@Kingyousy this looks pretty good but its better to compare this to the ipad 2 when it comes out that im guessing will be at about the same time as this, the ipad is almost a year old.
Awesome anyone want to buy my useless iPad, seriously it was fun for about a day but now it just seems sooooo limited and people who say this is laggy haven't tried to do anything on an iPad. I find it lagging all the time as I try to run apps. So much so I've stopped using and gone back to my laptop. It's a little heavier but I can at least multitask and use the Web properly.
the lag that you see when they swipe is actually intentional. just like what they did on the bb torch when it first came out. they later released an update because a lot of people didnt like it. so im hoping they will get rid of this stupid delay effect when swiping when the playbook comes out.
Yea. Amazing. It really has nice specs, excellent integration with blackberry phones (bbm, etc).
So. Where is it? Why isn't it on the shelf? Why is RIM saying "it will be available early 2011"? If that REALLY is a working model, then it's in it's final stage. Why not produce it and roll it out? Is it to head off the mass exodus to customers that are going to but spending thier money on competitor's products that are available right NOW and also before the holiday season?
The QNX Neutrino OS is a home run. It is a full-fledged multitasking operating system that will provide developers with core operating system services and tools including support to C/C++, Java, HTML 5.0, Adobe Flash and Air to build a wide range of applications.
If QNX can deliver so much so quickly, imagine the future .One of QNX technology hallmarks is its distributed message passing architecture. Apps can run parts of themselves transparently on different processors on a network. To understand what this means, think about the technology future shown in the movie Avatar where apps were transparently dragged from one screen to another, the screen then detached by the user, and the user walked away with the same app running on the portable device
im in love with this device. but its so business, i might not be able to afford this and i have no business so its useless to me, its to high tech. ill just wait for a QNX Neutrino based blackberry phone to be released later in LATE 2011.. rim has a big surprise from all of us. an people dont understand are soul lives for ever, their is no time. everyone wants things now, in their own way. all i can say is find yourself, dont hate, flame, cause i care less, many people see things the same way
blackberry will soon integrate this same technology "QNX Neutrino" in to future BB phone devices. how cool is that adobe flash on a phone the new webkit browser named "torch" <|=== that rim bought
apple already said no to adobe flash "big mistake ever" .. an they have lost their chance. adobe even said no flash for ipad so unnecessary "do research again dumb nuts"
APPLE IPAD can be jail broken WOW! ha .. you cant jail break a Blackberry sorry.. so QNX Neutrino on this tablet is just amazing. intergrated the blackberry UI java
this is by far the best tablet ever. most of the people who comment on this page spitting hate to a device that hasn't even been released are pathetic! as i was saying "still in testing fields" do not now realize this is the most advanced tablet to ever reach the market.
the tablet is based ON QNX firmware.. QNX is what the military uses to run their tanks VIA computer electronics
Android OS just like another phone that has proven "do research dumb nuts" to have a trojan SMS virus.
Sorry but is that thing serious? I mean come on! The only thing I want to do with that THING is wipe my ASS! Look how terrible slow that thing is. For a second I thought it was a Microsoft product. It is definitely not a iPad killer. Maybe in there dreams.
instead of focusing on what it lacks, focus on the positives
it looks great, and appears to be pretty proficient with multitasking despite the fact i noticed some lag
I think i'll eventually get one, but probably won't make a move until a second or third gen comes out. Ideally i want them to work out the kinks before i commit to purchasing
Looks like it's truly going to meet the needs of the enterprise market and be a ton of fun for the regular consumer. RIM really nailed this device, can't wait to get my hands on one. Addresses all the weaknesses of the iPad and then some and I wish I hadn't wasted money on that dust-collector!
Oh my goodness! TRUE MULTITASKING BY USING CARDS! Multiple applications open at once? So revolutionary!
This new Palm tablet is looking great! What? You mean this is BlackBerry? But it looks just like... the same card system... but my phone has had... since 2009...
Someone please teach these guys a bit about marketing and presentation. You dont spend an entire presentation having a conversation with your employee.
I can not wait for this device, i am so hoping for RIM that it will run stable and fluid because if so the technology is just way beyond anything that apple or google shows with their mobile platforms!

UI is way behind Android. Wont be released until the sun explodes. By the time it's released, Android will have saturated the market. Wont be any room for RIM. Mark my words.
@kambeard Yeah, I'd say so. Look at the unnatural gestures. Only BB would find it acceptable to have the screen move AFTER the gesture has been made without any indicators to show you it's registering your input. People want snappy, instantaneous response and that whole built-in lag thing is not going to fly with many. Also, this device forces you to adapt to a new paradigm of device navigation. Look at the Palm Pre. VERY innovative, cool window management, but learning curve is too high.
@kyle4miller You're pretty funny. I guarantee most companies out there who were thinking about deploying iPads or Android based tablets are all waiting for this to come out now. The UI is not behind and the OS is far beyond either Android or iOS. Not to mention that RIM offers something Android and Apple don't; SECURITY.
@shlammed You're right, because they haven't had entire COUNTRIES boycott their products for security reasons..give me a break. If a device runs an OS, it can be hacked, breached, w/e. Don't be ignorant, BB hasn't created a device somehow immune to vulnerability. Why you have faith in the UI/OS having any sort of threat to Apple/Android is beyond me. Look at the Torch. Sluggish, cluttered navigation mixed with cheap build material and a screen fit for a wristwatch. Y will this be different?
@kyle4miller have you ever heard the saying "epic fail" because i can't begin to tell you how much your response was one. Who boycotted BB? The reason India and the UAE have issues is because they're afraid that the security is TOO GOOD and that they can't eavesdrop on their citizens who use BB. You're obviously just some fanboy who knows nothing and are worried about what the playbook will do to Android/iPhone. And i just posted this from my torch....with no sluggishness. THANK YOU!
@kyle4miller Actually, while on topic, can you tell me how many security vulnerabilities have been found in the BB solution since it's inception? Can you explain why the entire US Government and military (amongst millions of other government users, military users, CEOs, etc.) continue to swear by BlackBerry? If you honestly want to get into an argument over which company has the most secure solution, please, do us all a favor and go read or something.
@kyle4miller Not so sure. The Android OS isnt (yet) optimized for these kinds of devices plus from the the enterprise perspective, Blackberry can leverage itself far better than either Google or Apple. RIM still has a good shot
@desmonds22 You're right in the fact that Google came out and said it wasn't optimized for tablet use. But I'm not so sure on the business argument. BB has been losing clout with business owners for some time now, as devices once seen as novelty (android, apple) become very flexible and useful in a business environment. BB may have the enterprise customer for now, but keep in mind that these customers are ALSO consumers. And, as consumers gravitate away from BB, business customers will too
@kyle4miller Most of the OS out there are, lets be honest, much of a muchness. Companies care about costs and integration. Droid has the potential to be cheap and well integrated but lacks any manufacturer (that i know of?) thats brought out a platform thats both cheap and has software specific to productivity out the box (app market is a bit wishy washy) . Apple doesnt really care about enterprises, so really RIM and windows tablets have it all to themselves.
@nopatria13 I respectfully disagree. Admittedly, the Android OS is not optimized for a tablet device according to Google, but I have demoed a Galaxy Tab and it was extremely functional and enjoyable to use. Yes, the raw (vanilla) android experience as it stands in Froyo COULD be better. And, come Android 2.3, I'll bet you it will be.But, look at what BB has delivered in the past. There solution to stop their sales avalanche was the torch? That phone is garbage, and the OS is a mess as well.
