  • If the daughter had wanted to see him after she had turned 18 or 21 - she would have done so. But she didn't. Guess why.

  • American people are so condescending against the world. Did you notice how condescending was that woman on the phone ? Thank you so much ..aight, aight...what kind of manners are those , and then Americans complaint how everyone dislike them for not having culture

  • @pipelujan83 i agree with you on that

  • Karma is not a bitch we make our destinies a bitch because of the choices we make. So nobody punishes no one, we punish ourselves.

  • Regardless of the CIA's treachery in Iran, Dr Mahmoody is a villain. He uprooted his wife and child in such a way as to leave his in-laws confused & dismayed. The way he abandoned their house and other trappings is further proof that his wife had NO IDEA they were going to stay in Iran. Whether he told her 2 weeks or 2 months is of NO consequence! He lied to her! His adult daughter recounts witnessing her father's violent abuses. He does not represent all men, so don't defend him on that basis.

  • Want to go?

What: The Culpeper Task Force on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault hosts its annual Candlelight Vigil with special speaker Mahtob Mahmoody, daughter of Betty Mahmoody, author of “Not Without My Daughter.”

  • pure guy was my brothers friend god bless hem

  • I am sorry, I still dont understand why he didnt come back after realizing they were gone? Did I miss that part?

  • Karma's a bitch!

  • All I can say is that the real story is probably somewhere between Betty and Moody's stories.

  • watching this, i can only think ...Betty should look up the word forgiveness....

    it set's you free........

  • I have no sympathy whatsoever for this man. His daughter has stated that she remembers him beating her mother and interrogating her. He wasn't going to let them leave and he was very willing to separate the mother and daughter. What comes around, goes around.

  • sunmoonie,I agree with you!Neither do I feel symphaty for mr.Mahmoody!By his actions towards Betty,he was pushing her to a certain point where she had too do what she did.

  • @sunmoonie how do you know she was not brain washed

  • Im so glad Im able to see the other side.... Poor guy.....

  • If I knew that my wife scape of course i will follow her until the court!!! if I know that she doesn't wanto come to Iran i will go to USA to clarify,,, but he never went even during the divorce process or during the other situations. Because he was able to came back to Usa ,,, why he never came??? did he was afraid?? abou what???

  • Poor guy. Betty is crazy. I've read the books, it all just seems a bit far fetched and just over exaggerated. Can't believe I believed her. Great to hear the other side and the truth.

  • You've never been to Iran, right? Betty isn't the only woman something like this happened to, so no, it's not all that far fetched.

  • that woman was rude...

  • @SugarShandy well no the woman seemed pretty straightforward and explained the situation clearly. She was supposed to bend over backwards to help him find his daughter in another country?

  • I feel a little bad for the Dad but i feel even worse for the women!

  • am i the only one who thinks that the receptionist he was speaking too as well as the judge who was talking about the case were both very unprofessional and extremely rude?

  • i agree with u

  • I THINK THEY WERE!

  • i have read the book and even bought her second book, now after seeing these videos, hmmm well , there are two sides and i feel sorry for him really , maybe because i am a father too.

  • ohhh is there a second book???..could you plss tell me the name of the book..

  • I think the reason Mahtob is not speaking to him or wanting to see him is because she remembers the way he treated her Mother the way he beat her and spoke to her. She saw her Mothers tears. If he would have stayed in America with them he may still have his daughter instead he acted like a fool!

  • Or maybe because the daughter was only 4 years old, didn't remember shit and was brought up and brainwashed like a typical dumb American.

  • You seem awfully angry about this situation... Are you related to this guy in some way or what? lol

  • @Visonu very very very plausible.

  • Personally, I think he protests too much about "that is my daugher". Look, you lied about a 2 wks with your family. Now, TAKE THAT AWAY and you ARE still in Michigan with your wife & family. Poor judgement on going to Iran.

  • I think that Mahtob is messed up in a way because she could have atleast picked his phone call and say hey look i'm ok dad or whatever...by the same token she was already old enough to know if her father posed some kind of threat to her and her mother....i have a two year old daughter and she knows when mommy and daddy r not happy with one another......so she obviously held a lot of contemp towards her father for some reason.....still this vid is sad...

  • Mahtob was an adult by then-she might not have even been living with Betty by then to receive any phone calls.

  • her daughter mahtab is heartless cause at the end of the DAYYYYY thats HER father, his father died today and she never called him, and never answerd his calls, im sorry for YOU.everybody makes mistake, her mother brain washed her for sure, but now she was old enough to talk to her dad. IM SORRY FOR YOU MAHTAB. HEARTLESS <<< one word

  • is it really necessary to post the same comment on each video? she is not heartless, her father deserved it.

  • Now he knows what it's like to be controlled. To have your life unfairly at the mercy of someone else.

  • How rude the woman is!! Why is she so rude and obnoxious?

  • there two sides to this story so its not really on whats true

  • also, if his claims that Betty knew they were not going to Iran for just a holiday, why didn't he sell their assets before leaving???

  • why didn't he try and fight to see his daughter earlier?

  • He never tells the lady that he is recording her????

  • His talking just shows and proves a lot from the book. I read the book and watched the movie. It is weird . How many people get a student visa, a traveler visa?

  • People should prevent mix marriages. Prevent mix cultures and customs. For the sake of their children. Nobody wins. not even Betty whose name keeps appearing rich or not rich

  • YOU'RE thinking is what's wrong with the world. Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but realize the ignorance in what you said. Do you actually think it benefits ANYONE, especially children, to grow up only knowing of one culture?? I think (no, i KNOW) that exposing our children to something other than one way of life is one of the best things that you can teach them because then, they will grow up with tolerance of others, which will decrease hate and stereotypes.

  • ....so no,people should NOT prevent mixing cultures and customs; what kind of world would we be leaving other generations if we did that? Ugh, God that's just so ignorant. I hope one day (if you REALLY feel this way), I hope your eyes will open up and maybe you'll be able to realize your own thinking is part of the problem and not the solution.

  • i feel very sad for Dr Mahmoodi. If god can forgive why cant he be forgiven? We cannot say that Betty is completely true, as her noval and film were based on her accounts only. Any one can understand a human biengs nature to defend their dignity that was so sorely torn away by the film and the noval.

A father has a right to see his daughter, i just hope that mahtob has seen this documentry and finds a place within her self to forgive and be reunited with her father......

  • I agree Gabrielle. I could not watch a video of my father weeping because he could not visit with me. Never.

  • If he was abusive-beatings, etc. then he lost any rights to see his daughter imo.

  • If he wasn't served until it was too late--Why didn't he appeal on those grounds? and I don't believe he can't enter the U.S and yes, you do have to re apply and apply--he could have sent a rep or lawyer also---Why not?

  • uhm hello if he had had visiting rights he would have just abducted her back again

  • agreed with BigArtistMiMi

  • dannich, betty had no say in the matter about becoming an Iranian citizen, she was forced to be one because she was married to him. she had no rights as a wife.

  • My birth father wasn't good to my mother either, but legally he was still given visitation.

As the son, that is now grown [28 years old] with my own children, I'm going to say that everybody makes mistakes [even betty] and nobody is to blame. bad things happen in relationships, but taking the children from him and not allowing him to see her and telling her [his child] lies to alienate her from him. That's wrong

  • I'll admit the trial was sketchy- like they "couldn't find him" to send him the papers. This upset me some...

But it doesn't excuse the holes in his story everywhere else

  • be ja inke bache mazlometo dar iran negah dari dar halike iran dasht bombaran mishod mikhasti be moghea dar sal 1986 be emrika bargardi o taxato por koni va ghest khonato bedi!!!

agar in karha ro mikardi shayad vaazet alan an ghadr kharab nabod

this man left his home and assets in the US to rot and didn't go back to pay his taxes, he knew his green card would expire and therefore he intended to say in Iran for good even if it was not in his child's interest.

  • dooste aziz aval ghavanine eghamate amrikaro yad begir bad nazar bede vagarna khaheshan az khodet darbaraye ashkhasi ke hich etelaei azashoon nadari harf dar nayar. Albate midoonam ma Irania too in kar kheyli maher hastim.

A greencard is renewed once expired, and it is easy to do so, therefore greencard expiration would not be a reason for somebody to not come back to the U.S.

Please stop getting so excited about this let the thoughts process a bit more. Let your emotions cool down a bit first.

  • he left iran for good, didn't pay taxes when he was working and making money there the year 1985.

So why didn't he come back to renew his green card after his wife went back with the child???? what was he afraid of? If he had a case, then why didn't he stand up for it when he could and had every reason to???

why did he let decades pass before trying to renew the green card?

  • And how do you have the knowledge of Mahmoody not paying taxes? Sources inside IRS?

  • he did not return to the USA by 1986 to pay taxes for all the time he worked in 1985?

    he left his assets there?

I don't need to go through the IRS.

  • I love the black and white image you have created for yourself, despite the fact that at least according to mahmoody himself, his plan was to go back during the war to practice within his profession for those injured...The idea that he all of a sudden after years of living in the U.S. decided not to pay his taxes for one year and left the country in order to avoid doing so is simply silly and far beyond logic.

  • Then why hasn't he gone back as planned?

  • Once your green card expires you can no longer enter the U.S. unless you go through the visa application process all over again. And even today Iranians face all sorts of difficulties over obtaining a U.S. Visa, due to the lack of diplomatic relations between Iran and the U.S.

  • Taxes in the U.S. are a matter of public record.

  • I don't known who to believe..... I read the book and saw the movie and thought that Betty was telling the truth but this video has made me doubt if she was really telling the truth... Dr. Mahmoody seems to be telling the truth also

  • there is no absolute truth, keep an open mind its a good start :)

  • Agreed

  • There is no absolute truth except "there is no absolute truth"? Your statement relies upon absolute truth to say there "is" anything.

It is true that there are differing perceptions on events, but those differing perceptions do not make different realities.

I do grieve for the Dr. for being on the short end of American divorce law where he received no representation.

However, the evidence for Betty's story is very strong.

  • Thanks for posting of this movie. I've created a facebook group to encourage Mahtob Mahmoody to talk and meet with her father. Please join th group. Thanks
