I love my Deaf parents, but I do admit that at times it could be frustrating to feel like being ignored.... That is mostly when I was very small, before I could understand fully... But like, in your video, I can hear your baby fussing in the background. You CANNOT hear the baby, so you don't know to go and check him to see if he's okay. Just make sure to watch the children intensely, in case they fall and cry and need you, but remember there are A LOT of CODAs and we grow up to be good people!
WOW, it happened just today, my son came up to me and he said "Mommy I wish you could talk well and hear like me." He just turned 5 years old. But then I explained its okay, its not a bad thing to be Deaf, God made everyone different. We have ASL, we have many things. After I pour my heart out to him he said, "Mommy do butterflies sleep at night?" So LOL you see how random and innocent he is. Very cute.
yes i do agree with you, I have a hearing son But he is only 3 yrs old. But sometime he told them parents are deaf and show them he use a signs to us. I guess he is proud of it . But I have hearing friend who have deaf parents and he use good asl but his parents not be there for him because of he felt uncomfortable that sometime they not good at english write and make them dont understand so He have to fix it and make them understand what they said. He like to go any where by himself..
@B2Jr513 That's sad. I'm a CODA with good English, but I have NEVER felt bad about my Deaf dad, and his English is not good... But, it is not his natural language so its FINE! My Dad is smart... He doesn't have to have good English to be smart.
Hello! Yes, my son was embarrassed to be the only child who has Deaf parents. I told him that he is a very lucky boy to be the only one at school that knows ASL and that he is bilingual. My friend gave presentation about Deaf culture and ASL to her son's class and he has stopped being bullied ever since. Kids will show you respect once they get to know you.
