Awesome. I've been to Stewart Island once and shot a yearling less than 100 yards from camp. and caught plenty of blue cod. White tail have to be one of the neatest looking deer and I cant wait to shoot a buck one day
@Grunzaa Just realised that i've read this article in one of my Rod n Rifle mags. Recognised a lot of the pictures/footage. Guna be getting on herbies boat 2moro for another great trip.
They must look pathetic compared to the white tail you are used to? They were introduced to NZ about 100 years ago but only a handfull to start with so genetics holds them back, plus its a tough environment, but they are survivors and very difficult to hunt.
@NZWildThings Not pathetic at all...seriously..I live on Vancouver Island on the Pacific West Coast of Canada. We have a subspecies of Blacktail Deer here and they are small compared to most places and can be extemely small compared to most Whitetails and Mule Deer...but like you say your Deer are...these Island Blacktails are tougher to hunt. And I eat and hunt Chicken and Grouse and they are much smaller than a Turkey...each species are unique and I enjoy them for what they are.
@greatsantini7 Well I'll be god damned, they musta swam!! :)
Actually the US govt. gifted a handfull to the New Zealand govt. over 100 years ago. Wish you could send us more now to introduce more genes for antler potential, but we don't have aclimatisation societies any more. Environmental people don't like that idea too much!
great vid! im keen to start making some hunting vids as well, dont know much about cameras so could you point me in the right direction, what things and specs do i need to get a good picture and shots. and what editing software do ya use?
@yopoza I just use old sony camera, but it must have a veiw finder, LCD screens equal shakey movies. For long range shots in mountains get a rock/branch rest or tripod. Slow purposefull movements and slow zooming and slow panning. I am just using windows movie maker.
