Dude, Crowbar is fucking awesome, but they didn't pioneer doom, Black Sabbath did. And there is a difference between doom and sludge, sludge has more punk influences, and often has less clean vocalists, whereas doom tends to be cleaner and more like traditional metal. There is a very significant overlap though. Crowbar is somewhat a part of both genres, although really they're distinctive from most bands in either genre, they are just Crowbar.

Crowbar is the main band that pioneered "DOOM METAL" - it was meant to be simplistic, slow, tuned way down, but effectual to the listener, with regard to how music should sound - (BTW- there is no such thing as "sludge metal" - this title is a mockery of real "DOOM metal")...
