would adding a vampier sight even out the weight making them more or less equal? Really the ammo tended to frag in the barrel, is this fault of the ammo or gun?
if the Stg44 was used with the vampir night sight it would outweight any advantage the Fg42 would have in at night. Otherwise there is no advantage. Ammo for the Stg44 never fragmented inside the standard gun, it only fragmented inside the curved barrel attachment called the Krumerlauf (this is what you mean)This was a rare piece of equipment used to shoot around corners that could be attatched to the end of the Stg44. High pressure inside the attachment made bullets fragment
@fallschirmjager0000 Oh, OK cool. The Krumerlauf must have had some awkward recoil, I didn't realize it actually curved the shots, thought it was kind of hinge to get the action perpendicular to the stock. So the vampir, was it just blank in the daylight or was it like an apeture with crosshairs, I guess what I mean is do you take it off ever if you get one?
yeah the recoil just made an already innacurate piece of kit even more inaccurate. It was mostly used by tank crews to stick out of their hatches to kill any enemy infantry who may have climbed on the tank. Because bullets fragmented it acted like a shotgun and was very effective at close range but useless at anything more than 10m. I supose it could be used at daytime but would be pointless really, yes you can take it off if you want because it was very large and cumbersome.
@AliasAnnonymous Or type ' Stg44 Krumerlauf' into Google and it will tell you everything about it and the gun. Its very interesting and also gives good info on the Vampir as well.
I have an STG44, but have never shot an FG42, I'd like to get my hands on one bust most likely if I HAD to chose just one, id say the MP44, its FUN to shoot and really not much different from modern military arms
It looks (shoei) standard now , I've yet to distress the gun , but I have stamped it with markings , have u ever seen a denix mp40? What's your opinion
Yes a friend of mine is going to stamp mine with a unique serial no. on the correct location as well as the stg44 marking on the reciever. Yes I've seen the Denix, I handled it at the Dead Mans Corner Museum in Normandy, they had over 200 in stock! Personally I think the outside is a tad crude in terms of the metal surfaces and paint job but thats not unlike any other denix model. However its a great repro, fully functioning bolt and fully field strippable (or so I've been told.
Cheers. for the stock i striped off the crappy orange varnich with acid paint remover and then cleaned it down. The stained it with oak stain 2 times and then varnished it 3 times. For the metal I sanded it down lightly with a fine grade sandpaper and the points that would normally revive wear. I also coated the pistol grips in a wood coloured paint and added wood texture to them (that took forever to do) I also added white paint to the rear sight numbers and wiped off the excess
id prefer the stg, ive fired both, full auto, the FG-is and AMAZING weapon, it is inbalanced, has a good bit of recoil on it, it was pretty cumbersome\
STG is heavier, BUT in turn it kinda buffers the recoi, its a little more accurate
@starace96 thanks mate, the Fg42 I got from a private seller. You can see more info about it on another one of my videos. The Stg44 I got from airsoftworld, the link is on my Youtube channel homepage.
