Why does "freedom of speech" not have any kind of limitation when you're actually targeting individuals and groups? It's one thing to voice an opinion in a political/social debate. It's another to target individuals and grieving families. We have laws against harassment of individuals; how does shouting slogans at a funeral (of a dead soldier, or a gay man - or both) not constitute personal harassment?
