  • daaaamnnn thats funky, what kinda bass is that????

  • Comment removed

  • @jmoney31705 a fender jazz????? what model????

  • Ten years ago today.

  • God, Waylon was so laid-back and suave.

  • Classic Fender sound

  • Good Blessed Country Music when he gave us Waylon.

    RIP Hoss

  • ain't it true

  • That guitar must have followed him for 30 years or so.

  • Guess Waylon & Jessi never knew how things were gonna take-off in the 70's - Waylon & Willie were the real deal who later went world-wide with Johnny Cash & Kris Kristofferson as The Highwaymen. This clip from the Johnny Cash Show . . . R.I.P JR & Waylon

  • the best group pf Country musicians ever assembled- Jessi notwithstanding....... even greater than the Buckaroos. never thought I'd say that....

  • @surfstrat59 --Great, but personally as a band the Buckeroo's will never be beat. But on the other hand Waylons band really started to cook after Ralph Mooney joined.

I'm just glad we had both the Waylors and the Buckeroo's!

  • dam..who's the keyboard player?

  • @TheTont82 I'm pretty sure it's his wife Jessi Colter...

  • god he melted my heart when he winked

  • Never seen Waylon clean shaven ...

  • @Righty736 ha me neither. didnt know that was him at all lol.

  • great song, i wish they had music like that today. but it all sucks.

  • Wow, Colter was definitely a looker in this video! I especially love her smile at 1:58 during the harmony mess-up. Aye-carumba, Jessi!!

  • a voice that will send chills down your spine.

  • God Damn could Waylon handle a guitar!!!!!!!!!!Mighty good picking of that guitar!!!!!

  • The voice crack at the end is halarious!!!!!LMAO

  • waylon was so cool, when his back up singer messed up waylon, just had fun with it plus jessy wa laughing tooo geat video!!!!!

  • What does VEVO have against linux, if I try to watch this from the vevo.com site I dont get sound if I try to watch it here it hangs up on the advertising.

  • hooolllyyyy, the chick in red got dick from waylon!!!! she is hotttt

  • i love the chicks hair...

  • Two Great legends gone but never forgotten!

  • fuck take kieth off this please

  • Vevo sucks. As I'm watching this video of a legendary artist in his prime back when country music had so much heart and soul, I'm treated to a background of Keith Urban staring seductively at me. Keith Urban is not a red bump on Waylon Jennings' ass.

  • Eat your heart out' Brad Paisley.'.. or what ever your REAL name is...who will todays music industry fabricate next..???

  • This is Waylon from the time when Nashville was all over him. Those damn Nashville-Trashville bosses wanted Ol' Waylie to keep himself like this and they always put him down! Then he did finally raise from the filthy ground of Trashville and begun making his OWN style of music. He was a true Nashville Rebel.

  • I knew the Kentucky Headhunters didnt really sing this song!!!

  • HOW DARE YOU VEVO THIS IS A 91 HONDA HOW DARE OH THIS ALSO INCLUDES EVERY-FUCKING-ONE ELSE YOU ASS BAGS

  • @doomsdayiscool this is a 91 honda?

  • @MrBombsaway it can be but who cares :just pick a car

  • Hey Vevo, you still blow

  • There's no male vocalist in County Music today that comes close to Waylon. Name one name any fake talent today that can sing like that and play the strings - they're all mostly pussy cocksuckers today singing about how much they love everything

  • Jesus, Beck ripped everybody off didnt he? Its all good though, everybody ripped everybody off.

  • waylon and johnny are the best ever

  • Waylon Jennings will aways be one of the great ones in counrty music. Waylon Jennings use to play bass guitar for Buddy Holly when the Crickets left.

  • first a weather update. in oklahoma and most of the lower southern states is a hot bitch today and has been all month of july. heat index up to 107 and its a sure way to make that fat melt off those embarrissing places. lol now back to waylon and his clean cut face very few have ever seen. lol mr dynomite as many others has called him when he blew up bar one night when the manager refused payment . lol

  • I think that Jessie had a jewel. This is what every woman wants. Waylon Jennings has always been my favorite male singer since I was 14 years old. I wish that I could have met him. He had a beautiful wife, JESSIE Colter, but my daughter and my family thinks that I have a connection with this man. There have been many singers but no one has ever turned me on like Waylon Jennings. The older he got the sexier he became.

  • Live TV. Weeds out the boys from the men. Waylon was a man.

  • By the way, is the organ a Yamaha YC-20?

  • this performance is unbelievably cool..

  • @joegibbskins wow. just like your momma.

  • @joegibbskins hey man stfu because waylon is the best country singer ever .................if you dont like waylon fuck u

  • hey man iif you dont like him dont listen to him and lemme guess you like that shitty new country singers these days like jason alsean and justin moore

  • @joegibbskins I like Waylons newer look much more! This wasn't just his style. He was tired of doing like they tell you to do in Nashville so he decided to follow himself and do like HE wants. Goddamn, he's my hero.

  • @Juicefani11

    he is my hero also

  • Nobody in country today could hold a candle to Waylon!

  • @oberfour1 lets not get carried away

  • He is so hot in this Video

  • The only thing better than Waylon's voice is Waylon's guitar playing.

  • @mrbobevans YESSSSSS !!!! yazzuh, you defintely right on that one. He's got some bite in his guitar pick.

  • He was one good looking man oh yeah!!!

  • Happy Birthday Waylon!

  • screw you vevo and your Scotty mcCreery ads

  • can geico save you money on car insurence is waylon the only daddy that'll walk the line

  • I love this video! Waylon was the man, no doubt! I love the flub in the end, that was classic. Aye carumba, Jessie Colter was a doll. I love her smile when they messed up the chorus at the end.

  • wauuuw! omg the hair styles.. their instruments..! their clothes... this is SO crazy!.. the girl in red is totalt hawt too.. this is awesummm!

  • RIP WAYLON, YOU WERE ONE OF THE BEST

  • thats kewl how they screw up at end and just just keeped goin [legionary]

  • damn, Jesse is smokin' hot in this video...

  • one of the greats in country music....have a little damn respect

  • Waylon was the one and ONLY Outlaw No onewill ever be able to replace him

  • Thats some sweet pickin'

  • I have a vastly growin appreciation for Jennings. My number one hero is Jonny Cash. But Cash introduced me to Jennings. So I'm just happy to know that I've got yet another HERO!

  • How could any one hit dislike on this? Even if you dont like it you would think you would just not click anything on a dead mans video. That chick is sooooooooo HOT

  • @MrMadden73 That hot chick was Waylon's wife, Jesse Colter. Her most famous song was "I'm Not Lisa"

  • @simwrangler damn thats my girlfriends name!lol i didnt know that was his wife. Thanks

  • is Sonny Ray the bass player - cant find him on google. did you know Jimmy Byrd (the guitarist) invented the double-necked guitar?

  • AND BY THE WAY THE KEYBOARD GIRL IS HOT!

  • ya'll stop it he's dead

  • @kyttikit @dragalis @stellar753 @webvan94 Let me settle this. The bass player is my father and the guitar player is my father. Hell, even the keyboard player is my father. The only one who isn't my father is Waylon; he's my mother. GOT IT?

  • The guitar solo blew my mind. That was some mighty fine a-pickin' and a-singin'.

  • "Whoop, Whoop" Awesome!!!

  • "Whoop, Whoop"!!!

  • 1:58 cracks me up

  • pre-beard Waylon is the BEST Waylon!!

  • Waylon was the real outlaw of country music. He didn't need Nashville to tell him how he should be or how he should carry himself, He just wanted people to see him as he was and not try to glamorize his music. He wanted the ordinary people to relate to his style and music and to hell with Nashville, if they did not like it. Ther will never be another Waylon. Only a few can even come close. Waylon would be proud of Jamie Johnson though. REST IN PIECE WAYLON , YOU LIVE IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER!!!!

  • reminds me of my Vanilla Ice days...lol and check out Inspector Gadget in the back? sick! Willie, Waylen and Johnny are gangster as hell...straight OGs.

  • Anybody know who the hot number is on the keyboard? She looks sweet.

  • @StanierBlack5LMS thats Jesse his wife

  • @bigjohnfrommichigan OK, never saw her when she was that young, only later on. I also didn't know she played a instrument with him, thought she only sang duets with Waylon.

  • Anyone know that Waylon was supposed to be on the plane that Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens died on?

  • @llieber100

There wasn't room for everyone, so they flipped a coin and The Big Bopper took the plane, instead of Waylon.

  • @bluejazz51 The story is; They'd all been touring together in a bus. There was no heat; Buddy and Waylon along with Ritchie were gonna catch a plane to the next gig while the rest of the crew took the bus. The Big Bopper was sick and asked Waylon if he'd be willin to take the bus instead of flying. They all agreed and Buddy made a comment to Waylon that he hoped his bus breaks down; Waylon in return said "oh yeah" I hope your dam plane crashes. Waylon always felt he was the reason it crashed!!!

  • @lawdog3534

You are correct! I remember that now. Thanks!!

Someone asked Waylon years later, something like, "can you bring him back? Well then, you didn't cause the crash either."

  • @bluejazz51 actually Tommy Allsup flipped the coin with Ritchie Valen's, Tommy was the Guitarist in buddy's band...

  • @bigjohnfrommichigan

    You are correct! Thanks!

  • ripped

  • whoop whoop love it

  • Is it just me, or were cameras better back then? It doesn't have the digital clarity but something about it is smoother and sexier looking to me.

  • how is the quality so good on this?

  • Man thats a crappy commercial to have in front of a Waylon song!

  • After meeting a legend like Waylon Jennings at the Mirage in Las Vegas, I was thankful he was not on the plane that killed the Big Bopper and Richie Valens. God had a plan for him to leave a legacy of music history behind for all of us too enjoy for many years to come. Had he boarded that airplane on that fateful flight we would have never know how far he could go. God Blessed us with Waylon forever. Even a sinner can find the way and receive a second chance. -Amen

  • why do you even post things on youtube like this? this is no place for god talk. leave that in church.

  • High as a kite.

  • for "Live" TV this astoundingly REAL he almost doesnt get to the mic in time, tries turning up his guitar twice and then signals to the sound guy to turn up his amp right before the solo, and does not miss a beat! he even looks at jessi during the "gettin' pretty tired of it" line and says "every monkey knows" busts the bass players balls on live TV, ect. This is a real performance, compare it to the more standard nashville video of this song where he has the acoustic guitar and has to lip sync.

  • @awesomefanger

Can I give you two thumbs up?

  • @awesomefanger AMEN BROTHER

  • @awesomefanger

"...signals to the sound guy to turn up his amp right before the solo..." It looks like after the solo he motions to the sound tech to turn it back down. I've watched this vid many times and I always thought he was motioning to the drummer to speed up a little.

  • heck yeah great music

  • My Wife Already Knows Shes Got The Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line!

  • My Wife Already Knows Shes Got The Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line!

  • Ah, the way back machine, nice!

    Thank you for sharing

  • You're at the wrong video spot to expect people to listen to a sermon....This is WAYLON JENNINGS, not PAT ROBERTSON....Expect negative attitudes, cursing, name calling, just like the brawling that goes on in the real world with this music, so shall it happen online as well !!!

  • 1:57 did he trick the bass player in to singing the part by himself or did he just screw up you see a smile on Jessie's face too.

  • @awesomefanger – I might be wrong, but I thought he was trying to tell the bass player he was singing too loud.

  • @stellar753 Yes actually you are incorrect. The one on the double-neck lead is my Daddy and the bass player is my Uncle. They always played around like that on stage. This actually wasn't supposed to make it, it was a rehearsal, but they let it go. There is a lot more that went on behind the scenes of this shoot too. Lots of funny stories and tidbits

  • i could do without the bass players vocals, but good classic anyway

  • waylon and cash is my alltime favorites miss both of em ripo fellows

  • 4 people who seen this vid must be justin bieber fans

  • skip the ad at 0:01 waylon's voice kicks all ass!

  • I would use Toyota technology to make ads go away.

  • That appears like a mosrite double neck, beatiful guitar to have w/a collection,I also like the ridges on Waylons Tele',always been his signature!!!

  • i want to know y i am watching waylon jennings with some stupid looking pink/purple headed bitch in the corner!

  • @cornman98

Her name is Jesse Colter you ignorant POS redneck.

  • @marlowe52 like i give a rats ass who it is it doesent belong next 2 waylon jennings

  • @cornman98

Well, since they were married for 33 years, I guess Waylon would disagree.

Sorry about calling you names, I was drunk.

  • Man, who's that baby doll playing the keyboard?

  • @jwahh Thats his wife

  • @jwahh that is Jesse Colter wish i had me a poster of her she is amazingly beutiful.

  • Why the f*** are the two highest rated comments about religion? Seriously people get a life. If you can't even enjoy some good music without starting a religious war you need help.

  • killer performance and song, I can't stop playing it after seeing it on the "Johnny Cash Special" DVD the other day.

Anyone know who his band was at the time, other than Jessi on piano?

  • @webvan94 I'm 80% sure Richie Albright was playing drums...

  • @Juicefani11 yep, would make sense although he did leave the Waylors temporarily at one point in 1969 according to Waylon's autobiography so maybe he wasn't back.

Someone must know who the other guys are! Amazingly there seems to be nowhere on the internet that has a line-up of the Waylors over the years. Wayne Moss was the studio musician (solo) on the studio recording of Only Daddy I found in a Waylon NPR interview, could be him actually (see pics on Google Images)

  • @webvan94 These guys have seemingly tried to avoid revealing their names.. xD

  • @webvan94 The Guitar player is my father-in-law Jimmy Byrd, he does have a wiki page..the bass player is Sonny Ray. Both were local musicians who came out of Phoenix and worked with Waylon, Johnny and many others in the 60's and 70's.

  • @dragalis - hey thanks for that, shows that Google still needs to improve to help us find information like that or my search skills are lacking! I don't have Waylon's autobiography anymore to check out any references but while fascinating it's a bit "all over the place" in terms of events and dates. I wish there was a a recent biography and a complete list of the Waylords line-ups over the years.

I found an old webpage here oocities.org/jimmy.byrd/waylonshow.htm

  • That lead pickin' at 1:04 is VERY Buddy Holly-ish. Great stuff.

  • waylon was the man and the real outlaw. waylon said johnny cash was never an outlaw and was so PRO nashville it was unreal he said cash did everything the nashville way. no matter what you see in the moives. he said the buddy holly story movie was 90% fiction as well, hollywood always makes mountain out of mole hills.

  • Hot Damn!!!! Just three words say it all, "Waylon F@&king Jennings"!!!

  • If `Ol Waylon coulda kept his eyes & mind off of Jessie , he might have known what he was doing there on stage, LOL, YES That is Jessie there got him all messed up !!!

HAHA, Way to go Hoss !!!

I bet she never did let him drive after they got married, he woulda drove in the ditch lookin at her, hehe,,,,, WOOP-WOOP !!!

  • The drummer must be Richie Albright. I don't know the rest, so i'm askin, does someone know them?

  • DONT GET BETTER THEN THIS FUCK NEW COUNTRY

  • I also love the leather wrapped 58' fender telecaster! Reminds me of Buddy Holly!

  • Great to see how someone who could share his talent with everyone. Love that Texas sound! Would have loved to see him in a Honky Tonk with Willie!

  • @bathetcnow , Took the words right out of my mouth. Very well said.

  • Im black

  • what a bunch of clowns you people are......your ludicrous selfish self absorbed comments about nothing.....here on this video you see apart of a mans life....someone who took a talent and did something with it.....to me its SIMPLY amazing. Please do the world a favor...keep your BS god and religion to yourself...especially when you want to judge and foist it on others. idiots!

  • lovin waylon

  • THIS IS WHEN COUNTRY BECAME COOL

  • That's awesome! Look at them having fun with it! He faked him out on the end! Good to see professionals have a mishap every once in a while..Show's that everything doesn't ALWAYS go perfect and how it's scripted out. Great!

  • In his bio Waylon talks about this song. Some other artist recorded it before he did and didn't have any success with it but Waylon thought it was a great song. He waited a year to release it and it was a hit. Waylon was great at taking other people's songs and giving them the right touch.

  • Hey folks I really like Johnny &Walyon, and all there music, and know one could ever make up for them, but I really would love it if you would come and watch how I sing this song too only daddy that el walk the line, love this song too my friend, take care and hope too hear from you soon, take care and have a really super nice day

  • Waylon!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Please sign my new online petition to return the Rawhide classic country channel to Dish network. They play lots of Waylon, and none of that new garbage. Just google "restore rawhide music channel" to be directed to the web page. Thanks!

  • country didn't get any cooler than Waylon Jennings!

  • this is a great song i love it i have never here a bad song by waylon.

  • @srp960 I am assuming you meant to say "He was"...not "I was". As to Waylon's drug problem...he (as most high profile celebrities) was under heavy pressure and he DID give in to his weakness for a while. However, a man's metal is measured by his ability to overcome his weakness. Waylon was clean for twenty years before his death...even through severe unrelated health problems. He was a loving father and husband and gave his all to his fans. My wife-to-be and I were at this show in 1970.

  • @srp960 Yes...and you too have a point. However, please do not focus on the past failures...that just may have been important in leading to the successes. Of course, we should not praise the mistakes. Look at Johnny Cash. We remember him for his "conversion" and great success...not his life of drugs and jail. You might apply your philosophy to Hank Williams, Sr. He never overcame his "demons". Those who do...and God...should be credited with the success... not criticized for failures:)

  • @srp960 P.S. You might ask Jessi and Shooter what kind of husband and father Waylon was before passing judgment:)

  • @srp960 I do appreciate your thoughts and your comments. I am NOT passing judgment on you or anyone as you are doing. I will suggest you consider a couple of ideas. First...Waylon used the Phoenix as his logo. I am sure you know the legend of this bird that rose from the ashes stronger and wiser than before. You claim Waylon would have been a greater success if he had not fallen in weakness to drugs. This is an unfounded assumption. Refer to the story of King David. Also: Isaiah 40:31.

  • @srp960 Do you have a kind or constructive word for ANYONE??? I will pray for you:) After all...God will certainly have the "last word".

  • @11245soap okay you believe in god...

    but why?

  • Comment removed

  • @GwTank @GwTank If you do not, it would be difficult to explain in full in this limited space... and I would not want to bore the few who share your cynicism:) Maybe you could explain why you DO NOT believe in God. I'm sure your answer would be shorter. Also, you might want to scroll back and follow the threads that led to this discussion. Otherwise, it really has no real relevance here and I apologize to any readers who seem to be offended by my commentaries. I only meant to enlighten:)
