@cookietiff2009 I just read it too. It's crazy how her childhood was. And it surprised me how much like mine it was. I too have a huge heart and capacity to understand others. Maybe it takes a tough childhood to make someone able to be that way. I have been a fan of the Judds since I was a little little girl and it's nice to get to know part of Ashley.
I read parts of her book yesterday: I have always respected her humanitarian work: I am even more heartfelt impressed by her life that she wants to be a service of worship to God.......mission being accomplished by her....and sending inspiring waves out to others to do the same, no matter where one is. Echos of Bobby Kennedy's insisting the notion of one person CAN make a difference: reinforced by Ashley's life and actions. Thanks so much.
I love Ashley Judd. I have my own persona l reasons for why I admire her so much but she has really been my absolute favorite actress since I was a kid. She's also one of my favorite people.
ashley, is to be commended for her concern for the defenceless among us and her work on their behalf. it is no secret her family was disfunctional, and strange as it may seem to those unknowing such dynamics disfunctionl members in them will savage eachother without mercy, yet close ranks quickly to defend agianst outsiders discoveries. that seems to be ashley's reactions here. its part of the dynamic. shes behaving just as you would expect if you know of these things.
This entire family is hard to swallow. Ashley always comes across as pretentious and self aggrandizing. One ends up wondering how much of what they put out there is truthful. Ashley, all the therapy you have done and still this?
I think one of the reporters put it best when she said,"You can't put something out there and not expect to get questions." If Ashley Judd really is so uncomfortable talking about that part of the book, she should have never written about it.I like Ashley, her mom,and sister a lot.But they really do contradict themselves.
I find this actress completely ANNOYING!!! SHe writes a "tell all" book detaling her "painful childhood" and depression and now she says she doesn't want to talk about it and is "wholly unprepared" for the attention? What the heck? Also, it's a little suspect to me that she reveals this all right after her mother detailed her own sexual abuse and right when her mother and sister kick off their tour.
If she's so "uncomfortable" talking about pondering suicide then why the hell would she write about it!?! Just like if she didn't want people attacking her for calling the hip-hop culture a "rape culture" then why would she say it!?!
Ashley is a wounded healer -- clearly still very much on her personal journey of growth. Thankfully, we are able to help people because of our scars, not in spite of them. Kudos to you Ashley -- for giving back instead of giving in or retaliating. "Life is 10% of what happens to us, 90% of how we react to it."
i really like ashley, but i don't understand why she wants to write a book about all the humanitarian work she's done. seems a bit self-indulgent. i'm glad she's doing it, but admit i have more respect for all those that do the same thing and don't seek attention and approval for it. she said she her favorite place to be is "outside of herself" and i laughed. and how annoying it is that she snaps at the lady for bring up the childhood SHE wrote about in the book. then don't put it in there.
@auntriri22 As a celebrity, she has a huge platform to bring these important topics to the public's attention. As an abolitionist, she is impelled to speak out against slavery, sexual abuse and violence.
i feel bad for the reporter, ashly judd unfairly put her in a shameful spot, this is journalism, lets keep it real, the majority of people like the book because they feel alike to judds childhood and suffering, not his prime time...
@Nothingizm Yeah, just because she described these things in a BOOK SHE PUBLISHED, and has gone on INTERVIEWS, that doesn't mean she wants the media to take note of her.
Celebs crave attention, but like to pretend they don't.
im almost finished with the book..it is amazing...

Ashley is so pompous...I've never cared for her as an actor mainly because of this self regarding attitude.
Physically Ashley reminds me of Sandy Dennis, minus the uber talent.

It has always seemed to me that she's jealous of her sister's relationship with her mother and her sister's talent - something I don't feel she has.
