  • Thank you BHWT..Anyone who buys battery eggs should be ashamed of yourselves..If people didn't buy them they wouldn't have battery hens

  • Adopting a child, or pet won't change the world. But for that child, or pet the world will change. I'm so glad they have welfare oganations for other creatures! :)

  • Its east to forget how poor they look when you first get them. We have a gravel rear garden which our 3 rescue hens love. We got ours through the BHW

  • i recused 150 my dad works a a battery farm soo we helped

  • precious babies, happy hens! :) i have four pet hens myself that i raised, it makes me feel good to know that four chickens will never grow up to live in terrible conditions such as a battery cage that commercial chickens must live through. Good for you for giving these girls a home. i wish everyone would give a chicken home! Chickens are wonderful, fun pets

  • They look like you have had them for awhile before you filmed this... They look like they are recovering nicely there and are enjoying their freedom.

  • Looks like red production hens or red star

  • do battery hens ever go broody because i rescued one and im keeping it free range with my other hens and roosters and she hasnt laid an egg or gone broody if you have an answer please respond

  • @gofifns350 hi, well done for rescuing one of the girls :0) Battery hens are unlikely to go broody because they've had that instinct bred out of them but it's not impossible. I've heard of battery hens going broody and successfully raising chicks, they're just less likely to go broody.

  • @gofifns350 cook it that will sort it out

  • where can i get hens like these to rescue?

  • @kotik122 google 'The Battery Hen Welfare Trust', good luck :0)

  • They defenetely look much happier now... good job!

  • What breed do battery chickens tend to be?

  • normally just brown hens.

  • Batteryhens are available in several different varieties, but where I live the Lohmann and bovans are the most common. Lohmann and Bovans is like any other battery-chicken, hybrids, ... And with the hybrid means that they are crossbreeds. They are not real breeds, but a "finished product" out of a lot of crossed and inbred lines.

"Brown hens" are common in many diffrent breeds. So you cant just say - Oh, there is a batteri hen if you see a brown hen. :P

  • @BigRiggers0109 they can be anything from road island reds to white leg horns.

  • @BigRiggers0109 they're a hybrid, i think they're ISA browns but not sure.

  • That's great, doing what they enjoy, they dont ask for much do they. If only humans could be happy with such simplicity :)

  • i know what yu mean but humans are selfish vile things that oly think of them selves

  • i recused one today her name is ruby!

  • I rescued some battery hens, and the change made after a week outside is so noticable :P

  • I just love this, they are having so much fun!

  • thanks 4 giving these chickend life no death!

  • YESH YUESSDHH

  • they are free so you can have em runnin around and get eggs and free chicken, i was thinking of ya you love chicken so much

  • but they're hard to catch.

  • very nice vid, thanx

  • Bless their little hearts! Humans can be so cruel, they put quantity above quality.

  • Standing ovation from me! At 1:50, does the girl on the left have a problem with her legs? Is she ok?

  • I think she's just standing weird. Remember, these hens have never even touched soil before, their muscles are weak and it takes a while for them to build up their strength.

  • They look gorgeous now, it's great to see that they are getting their feathers back and are happily scratching around. Too bad that their beaks have been permanantly mutilated. That should be illegal, as should be keeping hens in high intensity production environments, and the killing of males at 2 days old. It's all wrong, but these lucky girls are going to have a good life with you!

  • How wonderful to see them and acting as hens should! I am hoping to take on some ex batts myself later this year.

  • Now that they are free did their feathers start growing back?

  • Wonderful birds finally living free in your lovely garden. What a great sight to see. Thank you for posting them for us to enjoy

  • woo!

I'm doing this. I ordered a coop today and I'm going to rescue 6 ex-battery hens ASAP.

    It's just a shame that I can't take all 20 million chickens.

  • Amazing! Youve done really well. They look like there loving the new home!!

    x

  • the birds are so cute

  • Aw, this is beautiful!! =]

Thank you for saving these precious beings. I myself have four rescued battery chickens - Peep, Red, Luna, and Ingrid. When we first brought them to the veterinarian, she said she had never seen animals so badly abused and close to death. Fortunately, they are healed now and make great pets. They come when we call them, eat out of our hands, and like to play with strings and cat toys =]

  • I now think hens are my fav animals :)

    I wanna rescue battery hens

  • great to see these hens living happy after probely years of cage life laying eggs on demand, good luck with them in the future and regards from the emerald isle!!

  • years in cages in ur dream they have an average life expectancy of 18 mounths for egg layers

  • God bless you <33! You've made such a difference to these beautiful hens, and I'm sure they will repay you with eggs :)!

  • I have four hens and they are like pets. They are very friendly. Happy chickens lay good eggs.

  • where did you get them from

  • They certainly DO have personality!

Maud is the boss and she keeps them all in order but also looks out for them and protects them. Maud loves to snuggle on my lap and purrs and closes her eyes when I tickle her. Mariana prefers to spend her time digging in the garden and is quite reserved but lovely and gentle. Fatima is a gentle giant, a big girl who never shuts up and is very greedy! Finally little Shalott is an absolute maniac and runs everywhere at top speed and walks like Max Wall!

  • cHICKENS HAVE A PERSONALITY AND HAVE A PEKING ORDER UR ARE WRONG IN THAT..AND YES DOWN WITH BAD FARMING!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this video--it's wonderful to see people making a difference in the lives of these poor hens. Your girls look very happy and healthy and free--how chickens should be! :)

  • your video is wonderful.

  • wow thank you so much for posting this. I wish I could rescue some battery hens :)

  • Marvelous!

  • you make people like me so happy!

  • aww, thanks so much for posting this vid. you guys are wonderful for taking those lucky few in.

how long after they were rescued did you take this video?

  • they are gorgeous! i might be getting some in april! how much did your coop cost? and where did you get it from?

    thanks!

  • well done!!! you are the chickens heros!!!

  • only buy free range PLEASE

  • @MRSHashi sorry but you shouldnt by free range either. All that means is they get 30 mins of time out of their hell each day. Did you know that the places they have free range chickens still kill the male chicks. The best thing you could do is STOP BUYING EGGS COMPLETELY. Or buy them ONLY from a friend who has chickens as pets.

  • down with battery chicken farming! Good job! Happy chickens, love em! :-D

  • Brilliant video Poet! Their combs look so anemic - I bet they can't believe their luck being let loose on your lawn! :-) 5 Stars!

    Dan

  • sweet!
