It is a bit there Ferris Beuler. lol. I did notice that the dog "champ" falling down multiple holes in the floor reminded me of "Alien" and then the multiple elevator chase of "Aliens." Precognition I guess.
God, the humor is just lost nowadays with these high tech animation. I miss these toons so much...what fun & so silly without being offensive. Thx for sharing!!!
loved it when I watched it as a kid (on tape. I'm not that old, haha) and still love it now! Btw, Would that be an example of breaking the 4th wall for the ending? Just curious.
@poopybooyah -- I bet he read the script.... And, yes, @T34mPlayer, it's a great example of 4th wall breaking...I've dubbed the technique "fighting the iris", and I've always wondered who pioneered it. Tex Avery and Bob Clampett used it to good effect at Warner Bros. in the forties, but did they do it first, or was it around even before them? My reseacrch continues....
@mackbee628 I was just thinking the same thing. My brother and I were just talking about what we used to watch before school in the mornings (25-30 years ago) and this was one of the shows brought up. Along with Popeye, The Lone Ranger, Looney Toons and Woody Woodpecker. Watching this reminds me watching my mom make cream of wheat as I get ready for school and watch cartoons. Wow, the good ole days. Gone forever.
Because, 'poopy', they took the elevator TOO far down (remember, one of them says, "Oops, too low!!")- boy, that builidng sure has quite a 'basement", eh? They also know that they're cartoon characters, and that once "The End" title is flashed, they figured they're "safe". But the bulldog knew better- sometimes, the magpies came out on top, and other times, faced a "bitter end".
why's their a scene of hell under the center of earth where satan's live? it's so scary.
And why's Heckle and Jeckle escape at the end through the iris-out effect, but the bulldog grabs them back and, out of shot, beats the tar out of them in the end? :'(
First released in April 1953, and one of the magpies' best. Roy Halee is the voice of "H&J" and the bulldog; Jim Tyer's loose animation is a highlight...

5:45 Funniest joke in this whole cartoon!
