I used to throw the More Songs About Buildings and Food into the 8-Track at my first restaurant job, smoke a joint, and clean the place spotless after closing. Got to see the heads four times between 1980 and the Stop Making Sense tour, they was and is the shit.
Yeah, it's hard to quantify without the rest of what life was like at the time.
Now, it doesn't sound like that big a deal, in fact Dave sounds kind of mannered and campy. But in 1978 everyone was listening to The Bee Gees and Grease soundtracks. There was nothing like this. The number of decent bands could be counted on one hand, maybe two.
.
The number of people 'in the scene' was in the hundred's. At the beginning it was like 12 to 17 people in each place - Brisbane, UK, NY, Clev
@brewforyou Actually classified as "Punk" back in the day...but actually, how do you classify The Talking Heads? It was so "educated" and out there, I think there is no conventional way to classify them.
This is when I appreciated them best, around the late '70's. Saw them twice in Rhode Island , Once @ Brown University and then @ RIC.
