ok, whatever you can use is good. If you want to be a master with any weapon you must practice. I think sns takes a long time but it can be really fun, and it has fast attacks.

@ZazuuVIX sword and shield is terrible. if you do the math, in the same amount of time of only attacking, every other weapon can do more than a sword and shield equivalent to them. some people use swords because certain swords has abnormally high elemental damge and extremely low base damage, which is a whole lot better. but in the math, the equivalent sword and shield to all other weapons had no element. so i dont think any sword and shield is good besides ancient or from a rusty sword.
@TAincorporated but white GS,Lance,LS,SA or the Hammer 1) i dont hit the monsta because the weapons atk speed is so creapy for me and 2) the monster hit me offten because the Atk speed is so crappy i attack whit my (Big) weapon and the monster turn away so i miss than i hit again and than the monster hit me because i miss again o.o white SnS i can fast turn away the monsta attacks and can fast attack ..... SnS or HBG this are the best weapons for me o.o atm
But with weapons like the Great Sword, you gotta be lucky to hit the monster about 3 times, before you have to avoid his next attack. Swords and Shields very usefull, because you can quickly deal a lot of attacks, avoid and attack again. So with a Sword and Shield you could deal more damage than with a Great Sword or a lance or something, if you know how to use it. You probably just suck with a sword and shield, but if you're good with it, it's an amazing weapon.
@Darktoonlink88 Long sword is probably the strongest weapon when charged up, apart from maybe a switch axe or something, and because long sword has so much power and is so fast, its a great weapon when versing boss monsters. the only trouble is getting it charged up, AND you cant defend with it. SnS is decent except the blocking doesnt absorb all the damage so even when i use it i tend to dodge instead of block.
Your a skilled player. I too hit the button a million times until the attack animation is almost done. It certainly doesn't mean its button mashing...Just jumpy fingers.

@afroborike3165 I think those were paralizing knifes. Comes in very handy when you weakin a monster, it makes it easier to paralize it. I tried this, and that is how I beat the Grat Jaggi.(I know I suck, but this is my first time playing Monster Hunter 3 Tri, okay.)
Depends upon which one you're using... Some swords and shields have very low damage... but so do all other weapons! Like the hunters knife... That just has a bit of yellow sharpness, but so do all other beginning weapons. And look at better swords and shields like the djinn. They have a lot of green sharpness! Really, saying that swords and shields don't have any sharpness is rubbish.
Lance is a solid choice. Their shields allow them to completely absorb damage from most attacks so they're able to be in front of the monster as much as they want. While it's strike damages aren't as strong as Great Sword, Long Sword, and Mace, their constant, uninterrupted attacks allow them to compete anyways. They play much differently then the other weapons, they're much more static and immobile but at the same time unmovable.
