Great song, but with one glaring mistake in the lyrics that makes me cringe every time I hear it. In "up go the flaps, down go the wheels," down should have been up or vice-versa. If a fighter pilot, for example, is going to hit the afterburners, he's damn sure going to have flaps and wheels up. Otherwise, for landing, flaps and wheels both go down. At least Nazareth didn't write it.
Thing song gives me chills everytime I hear it!! You kow that chill that goes down your spine!! They dont make em like this anymore thats for sure! EXCELLENT!!!!
THE BEST SONG OF ALL TIME! First heard it in '73 in Canada and UK, and it's haunted me ever since, even comes into my dreams at night sometimes. It's only the opinion of one man, I know, but I've never heard a song to top it. Dan's fantastic voice merging with the hypnotic beat, bass and rythmn guitar complemented by the beautifully-eerie lead guitar is second to none in rock history. A piece of musical ingenuity. FIRST-CLASS GUYS!
From a time when success required talent. Grew up in the 70's & 80's and still hear the same great music except now they call it classic rock. It's not "classic" it's ROCK.
@crashlight1 tienes toda la razon, naci en el 58 he mamado todo esto y con Camel lo he flipado no me gusta lo de ahora siempre rock...pero el de antes, saludos
Okay, I like Nazareth's cover of this song, it's a groovy track and they did a good job with making it their own. However, I feel the emotion in Joni Mitchell's original, which I think draws me in from a different angle than the angle Nazareth's version does. I don't compare which is better, as they are both so very different approaches to the song,
This Flight Tonight - Nazareth [Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland] - 1974 - "AMG pick. GOOD first impression. A driving rock treatment of a classic Joni Mitchell tune. Translates the song’s emotional charge into musical power with a stylish guitar-heavy arrangement." - Greatest Hits [Original Recording Remastered] (A&M)-1996. NOTE: I like both versions. :-)
Saw them in Birmingham - YEARS AGO. I missed my friend's stag night as I had already paid for two tickets. Great night...and my friend and his wife forgave me..they still do.
Look out the left captain said The lights down there that's where we'll land. I saw a falling star burn up Above the Las Vagas sands. It wasn't the one that you gave to me That night down South between the trailer; Not the early one That you can wish upon; Not the Northern one That guides in the sailors. Oh starbright starbright You've got the loving that I like all right Turn this crazy bird around I shouldn't have got on this flight tonight.
LMAO...I always thought it said; "Kentucky beef, you know I get so weak". OMG!!! That's hilarious. The song is a classic and I've been singing it sooooooooooo wrong for 15 years, too funny.
Mind you, those lyrics do fit in nicely though. Just glad I didn't write this one.
Awsome!!
