I work for a City government. To apply for a job, you have to go through written and sometimes tests to check your experience in the position you apply for. To apply for a higher position, you test again, and still you have to pass 2 or 3 interviews with a panel of "experts." Why don't we demand anyone who runs for office to take a series of tests to let us know that they deserve the pay and benefits that the taxpayers pay them. That would limit candidates running for office, wouldn't it?

@RCWorks Something I'd like to add. About this whole immigration debate, there's been this push by the Tea/Republican Party to repeal the 14th Amendment. Do you realize that contains your right to vote as a male member of the nation? Do you want that taken away? I don't think so. But the 14th also lists reasons you can have your vote taken away. Such as certain serious crimes, or rebellion. It's the way states justify denying votes to felons.
@RCWorks And to continue about the vote denials. Take my home state of Florida, they deny voting rights to felons. They can legally do that by the 14th Amendment. But, are they also removing these people off their voting rolls? That does not seem to be the case. You see, Florida has a "winner take all" system, and they do not draw out electoral zones as they are required to by the Constitution. But why doesn't anyone complain? As it is, those people are to be removed from population count.

@RCWorks But we both know that states do not remove people denied the right to vote for crimes, or other reasons. Why do we know that? Because it would cost them electoral votes. States are given their electoral votes based on enumeration. I.E. how many citizens they have, with the ability to vote. They are also supposed to draw out the districts, but some do not, at least not for electoral zones. So why is this a problem? Accountability, or lack thereof, and why we don't hold them to account.

I have more freedom now than 10 years ago. 10 years ago I could be arrested in several states for committing "sodomy". Today, (in most), I cannot. 10 years ago, I was not allowed to get married in any state. I work for a City government. To apply for a job, you have to go through written and sometimes tests to check your experience in the position you apply for. To apply for a higher position, you test again, and still you have to pass 2 or 3 interviews with a panel of "experts." Why don't we demand anyone who runs for office to take a series of tests to let us know that they deserve the pay and benefits that the taxpayers pay them. That would limit candidates running for office, wouldn't it?

I think before they can run for office, they should be tested on their skills and experience with every facet of governing any "office" if they are to make decisions that will ultimately regulate US. @RCWorks Something I'd like to add. About this whole immigration debate, there's been this push by the Tea/Republican Party to repeal the 14th Amendment. Do you realize that contains your right to vote as a male member of the nation? Do you want that taken away? I don't think so. But the 14th also lists reasons you can have your vote taken away. Such as certain serious crimes, or rebellion. It's the way states justify denying votes to felons.

But, are they also removing these people off their voting rolls? That does not seem to be the case. You see, Florida has a "winner take all" system, and they do not draw out electoral zones as they are required to by the Constitution. But why doesn't anyone complain? As it is, those people are to be removed from population count.

@RCWorks But we both know that states do not remove people denied the right to vote for crimes, or other reasons. Why do we know that? Because it would cost them electoral votes. States are given their electoral votes based on enumeration. I.E. how many citizens they have, with the ability to vote. They are also supposed to draw out the districts, but some do not, at least not for electoral zones. So why is this a problem? Accountability, or lack thereof, and why we don't hold them to account.
