  • The bass player and drummer both have the same last name of Thomas but aren't related... ....Bruce Thomas on bass and Pete Thomas on drums. And they were an amazing rhythm section together.

  • I saw the Stiff Records tour at Erics in Liverpool in 77 (I think). Elvis and Ian Dury had an altercation as to who should close the Gig. Apparently it was Dury's turn, but Elvis felt he should do it as he was in his home town. Dont know what happened but I remember Dury lying on the floor singing.

  • I was lucky enough to see Elvis and the Attractions on the "Armed Forces Tour" in Birmingham, AL. Amazing!

  • everytime i watch this video i think..."i have never been so attracted to anyone in my life."

  • gotta love his moves

  • Does anyone know where to get the piano chords for it?? :S like a tutorail or something...

  • What happened to the keyboard these days?

  • @iirainey They were dismantled for scrap in China....

  • sry this guys a god in this song.....

  • If all rap, Disney, Britney Spears, and Justin Bieber songs put together were put on steroids time infinity, they still could not hold a candle to this epic work of art.

  • FAIL with big F

  • Elvis has always had his signature sound and was one the 80's most influential driving Forces in the mid- Punk era . Thanks , Vincotube !!!

  • I think Elvis Costello invented the 80's with this song and video.

  • Ten times as enjoyable and liberating if you get the deeper meaning of this... :)

  • I sing this song everytime I inflate my friend, Miss Victoria, she never talks, but thats ok, I guess I'm attracted to the quiet types.

  • i miss the attractions

  • he should be called Steven hawking

  • Must say "Mystery Dance" ; - )

  • The start sounds a bit like voodoo child by the rogue traders.

  • oxcy does wonders for pain in the legs ask elvis he is all pumped up.with drugs.

  • I saw them a few months ago, they opened up the show with this song, only in a faster time signature. There is no better way to get an audience worked up than by playing this gem (or should I say pumped up?)

  • I remember watching this on MTV when it debuted, I think I was 15 or so and I thought "That's gotta hurt like hell, I gotta try it!"

I can't move like that now, but then again I don't think Elvis can either.

    Great vid thanks!

  • To all musicians: If your knees and ankles don't hurt after your MTV shoot, you haven't been doing it right!

  • sorry I keep commenting on this here video but I can't help but watch and this if I was a podiatrist I would be thinking "job security"

  • @uneedtherapy42 Haha, I was thinking what if Elvis Costello is having knee problems today because of this.. Great vid though!

  • derry

  • Wild Wild West by The Escape Club ripped this song off.

  • the shakespeare of punk rock

  • @uneedtherapy42 well said. he is isnt he. i fucking hated him for years until i realised i was actually jealous of him. i fucking love therapy. sorts it all out

  • @jaddajn1 I'm not really jealous of his music and talent I am more jealous that he is now married to Diana Krall... god lord is she sexy! and the voice....

  • how sick is the bass in this song?

  • @tremspeed Very Sick I love it :D

  • @tremspeed How sick is the everything in this song?

  • @tremspeed Extremely.

  • @tremspeed Very intricate and well managed bass control for the player on this....

  • @tremspeed I got it (only the bass line, the original one from the studio in MP3 format) if you are interrested :)

  • @musicvision31 i'm very interrested dude!!

  • @rippersk8er You're a skater haha! Me too fuck ^^ PM me!

  • @tremspeed Bass aint evrythin

  • Don't worry about the legs, it's just his way of avoiding taking an arrow to the knee.

  • I met Elvis Costello today and his wife, Diana Krall :) Nice people!

  • great song...but the video makes my ankles hurt, i don't think they are meant to do that

  • God, I remember this was the first song and first time I set eyes on Elvis Costello. Long time ago!

    XX

  • 足ねんざしそう。

  • @MsShin0623 彼は私が持っていることを行う可能性がある:Pを

  • 1978 NEW YORK CITY BABY !!!

  • Elvis Costello's legs got that way because he spent his whole life kicking ass.

  • @yeknom02 elvis costello v. chuck norris FITE

  • @fuzzyjem3 YOU FOOL! Bow legged is when your legs face out not in!

  • You can so dance to this song:)

  • Too good for Youtube.

  • He reminds me of Austin Powers a little bit. :P I remember dancing around to this song when I was about 4 years old.. now I'm 21, still enjoying!! <3

  • get outta the way people...it looks like mr costello has to pee...or take his meds....good song tho...hahahha

  • you ever wonder if elvis has arthritis from this?

  • @hiphopapotamis25 Thumbs up if "your" annoyed by arrogant, inept, low-IQ dimwits who use improper morphology.

  • エルビスコステロのギターの弾き方は見習うべき

  • back when Elvis was cool ... before he decided to want to be a British Billy Joel.

  • @tsartodd so much in agreement with u. he was unique at one time - now just a follower.

  • Thumbs up if this electrifying gem blows away every rap, Disney, Britney Spears, and Justin Bieber song COMBINED!

  • @PhillyCopsAreCorrupt Thumbs up if your annoyed when people post comments like the one below me.

  • Fuck Costello. He's a racist.

  • I'M PUMPED!!!

  • my friend kept bitching about the music i listen to and told me why don't i listen to real music like elvis costello. now I learned he's a total homo

  • perfect!

  • Why do i always hear fuck it up? is it due to my "madao" lifestyle? I don't really get it, but it's really fitting.

  • Wonder how they figured out this move..... what were they doing at that moment?? :P

  • No..it's not Joe Budden.

  • One of the earlist videos - And that's a bicycle pump used as an instrument! That may be a first.

  • @bgdjohnny8 Yeah possibly, I know Joy Division did the same with an aerosol can in 'She's Lost Control' but that was after this song and 13th Floor Elevators used a thing called an electric jug - basically someone making noises into a mic'd up jug.

  • wait...this isn't joe budden

  • Has anyone ever actually listened to Elvis Costello?

  • I love old music videos like this one. They're so rough around the edges, but that's part of the appeal; no one really knew what they were doing making the videos back then.

  • daniel brou

  • What about Steve?

  • Genius!!

  • how old is he in this video?

  • His movements in this reminds me of Ian Curtis of Joy Division. Only Ian would sometimes have real epileptic episodes while performing on stage.

  • Fuck ads.

  • this song is so catchy

  • Great song, even the Escape Club ripped it off for their song "Wild Wild West"

  • @FaithIsAnnoyed Good..... I thought I was the only one who saw the obvious "borrowing" by Escape Club" of this song in the basic tune and performance style in their song "Wild Wild West"

  • He used to live above Mario's barbers in Horn Lane, Acton where me mum used to take me for me pudding basin hair cut. They had his guitar on the wall in there... Very cool (Elvis, not the bowl cut...).

  • It was nice to see him at a Vancouver Canucks hockey game last year cheering on the team. His Canadian wife Diana Krall is having a nice Canadian influence on him.

  • i love him but wtf is wrong with his feet! :D

  • @eveningbluesky

Uh oh! Foot fetish alert! Hide your toes!

  • @jackiedegracia um no not really:)

  • This, my friends, is how it's done. All of you young people who are thinking of starting your own bands. Mark this well. This is how it's done. I'm looking forward to your work. So is everybody else.

  • @Roddog61 you are very astute!

  • the guitar beat is hypnotic

  • I think it is not so good to do that with the knees and the ankle, he could get injured..

  • @koumisp happened to elvis the other one

  • @koumisp well he started that before 77 and ive seen him do it live many many times since then and now all these years later he's fine

  • @koumisp that's a very rock n' roll thing to say.

  • @FuckThisShit422 well.. I m more of a classic music type ;), I can only try

  • Move your butt when you hear this! :)

  • If your more concerned with politics behind the music, as opposed to the music itself, then of course you can't find anything good on the radio.

    Beethoven&Bach - Skynyrd&Willie - JacksonBrowne&EltonJohn - NiN&Nirvana - Christina&Rhianna - 3DD&MB20 - A7X&AllThatRemains.

Randy says: (in my best Confucius impression) It is not so hard...... to find good music........ if one simply pulls their head....... outta their ass, so as to..... hear better.

  • amazing!

  • IF IT AIN'T STIFF IT AIN' WORTH A FUCK / STIFF RECORDS

  • 1:14, no crash symbol? :o

  • @RoshMyster haha fail

  • Nice and funny song.

  • daniel brou

  • The guitar player looks like he's giving up around 3:09. Is that Liam Gallager giving up? Or is is Noah?

  • Jelavic 4 in a row

  • ...Pure musical magic!! Why dont we get such gems nowadays? Music is proper shit today. It makes me sad. Music is now corporate or reality tv show based rubbish. Proper good bands and music is still around. You just have search for it kids!!

  • @coltsuperocean10 I get what you're saying but what you wrote looks contradictory. Not to pop your balloon, I'm just saying. And I agree with you, Music is around today - There are a few current bands I enjoy. Also, From what I can tell corporate music has always been around in the last sixty years. And I enjoy some of that corporate music.

  • @coltsuperocean10 agreed my friend. We probably listen to completely different music, but anyone listing to the radio or watching MTV looking for good music is a proper idiot!

  • A long time ago, "Tune Radio" (Wal~Mart's Corporate Radio Network) too this song and made their own lyrics to get employees "pumped up". I worked at a Wal~Mart store in between 1996 and 2000, and I didn't see a single person too happy to hear this, or even listen to that show in the morning. The PA system overrides the music when someone is being paged, so no one really cared about it.

  • @kd4adv That's because Wal-Mart is the fucking devil, and you can't "pump up" employees who are being treated like dogshit. I haven't been in one in YEARS, and never EVER will again. Fucking Chinese slave labor supporters selling cheap bullshit to naive consumers.

  • ~Le me dancing indie rock. hahahha

  • What a pedo, haha.

  • Is this song about masturbation?

  • Seriously, I am Cathal Costello (Irish) and Elvis is my Uncle! NO LIES!

  • @iCozTello except elvis costello isnt really named elvis... a simple google would prove you are a liar ... not please die in a fire

  • @kenmabie Yeah.. Declan is, why would I say 'Declan is my cousin' on this video, when I would presumme most people don't even know him. Haha, please, your comments are terribly childish, Kenmabie.

  • @iCozTello ... no you said ELVIS is your uncle .. and that your last name is costello ... you were trying to get people to believe that elvis costello is your uncle ... except that evlis costellos real first name isnt elvis... you were being dishonest in your intent... you sir are an idiot please die in a fire ... good day

  • @iCozTello Presume*.

  • god i love elvis! he so strange, but in a really good way, if that makes sense. everything about him is unique thats what i love! coolest nerd ever, and he wasn't *trying* to be a nerd to be cool, like so many people are now. he just was ;)

  • This came out the year before I graduated from high school. If you've never seen a hundred people partying and dancing to this in an abandoned quarry you haven't lived. ;-)

  • @Jackle61 yes in Aberfeldy, Scotland.

  • me n elvis are pigey toed

  • Now, don't get me wrong, I hate it when people say "blah blahhhh brought me here", but I feel like Never Mind The Buzzcocks is legendary enough to get credit for bringing me to this glorious song, especially since Simon Amstell hosted the episode this was played on.

  • @chchchcherrybomb37 isnt hate a bit too much for something simple as bringing people towards good music?

Does it really matter what's bringing people to music? No.

The important part is that they discover awesome tunes like this one, not HOW they discover it.

  • @Terremides I'm saying I'm glad NMTB brought me here. It's a good thing.

Don't take the word 'hate' so seriously.

  • WISH THAT CUNT DID MORE LIKE THIS !!!

  • Type in "Adam Carolla Podcast (Year 1): Rap Sucks" He says Costello is great and yet these lyrics don't sound any more complex than rap or most pop.

  • god what a cool song.

  • I didn't know that Woody Allen could sing XD But seriously. Great track.

  • Hey this guy's my uncle!

  • @iCozTello NOT!!

  • 2 things, I want the hair and i want the ankles....oh great song as well :)

  • the real elvis will like this watching from upstairs!!!!!

  • pump it up with a great song(badass bassline)

  • 153 ripped off they're legs while doin the crazy legs...

  • would someone fix my leg?

  • just watching this makes my ankles feel uncomfortable

  • good old 80s

  • elvis costello is a god.

  • Best thing he ever did. lol

  • i love the bass beat

  • coolest computer programmer of all time?

  • He was so ahead of his time

  • @niginai Not really. He was reflective of his time... but the real star of this band is not Declan McManus... the phony Elvis... it's the bass player Bruce Thomas.

  • @niginai

He was. And then he got so past his prime. Pity.

  • @1965maple Yeah; Somehow, he could not become the first person in our dimension to defy the Laws of Time. How could he be so careless? What a pity. His entire body of work should be marginalised, now that he's old. I'll never let that happen to me. Only slack c*nts allow themselves to age.

  • @SchmedleyDoRight

There is a difference. Paul McCartney and Iggy Pop aged gracefully, not really losing their form. In contrast, it's like Costello was abducted by aliens and replaced with a soulless android. But his early stuff is brilliant, yes, brilliant.

  • @1965maple -- Fair enough then. Maybe I was being too kind?

  • Nerds Rule

  • he looks like a nerd..but he moves like god XD

  • おお!ミスチルの桜井さんの声に似てる!

  • @LiberalBuster Cause he is 20 times the man you are.

  • The drummer looks like he just got out of work for the weekend and is ready for cocktails with a blind date

  • He had those hipster glasses before they we're mainstream.

  • I do that when I play the guitar at gigs, and my band members and audience are like "Happy Feet!"

  • elvis's dad was the "secret lemonade drinker"

  • This is used in Rogue Traders' "Voodoo Child".

  • happy feet

  • Over 30 years later...this song still holds up! It would sound brand new today, timeless!!!

  • @Declan50 definitely! I (ashamedly) thought this was a new Lenny Kravitz song. Guess I'm a little ignorant on my Elvis Costello catalogue.

  • @Declan50 definitely! I (ashamedly) thought this was a new Lenny Kravitz song. Guess I'm a little ignorant on my Elvis Costello catalogue.

  • i seriously thought his legs were going to break any second.

  • 153 people can't get it up.
