This kinda grossed me out a little seeing as I got shot last November and had two plates, 17 screws and a piece of synthetic bone put in my elbow (it was a cobbled f*cking mess basically) and so far doing well... another surgery in January to have two of the screws taken out most likely...
I am so looking forward to regenerative medicine making this surgery obsolete in the next 4 or 5 years from now (growth of new cartilage in the body has already started, next bone) also for those that have already had this surgery being able to get the metal out and regenerating a new fully working joint with full range of motion, search youtube for stanford university lecture by jill helms about what's as she puts it "just around the corner" which is encouraging.
It took me 2 month to start getting it over. And a month more later everything went well, except for one finger that is only 70% of prevous ability. Now I got a radial head necrosis and have to have the radial head resected and replaced by a prostetic.
Very interesting video. I recently had a bad accident resulting in 2 fractures to the elbow and one to the wrist. After consultation with specialists they decided surgery was not the ideal option and chose to let it heal by itself. However it was amazing to see the procedure here
The main aspect of do or do not do the surgery is the articular joint. If like in this case, the joint is not congruent the surgery is the better choice.
No..sorry , but I was wrong ! I didn't had metal plates with screws inserted , but only two wires , so it was less complicated I suppose..Nevertheless : if not surgery I would have my arm bended at 90 degrees forever !
I had the same surgery done on my left elbow in 1987 when I was 9 and half ! .It last about 90 min and I was asleep all the time.I don't remember any of it .I'm glad because it looks like pieces of meat and bones here..covered in blood :( My surgeons were very experienced and skillful ! They did awesome job , but because I gave up physio too soon I will never be able to fully stretch my left arm now.I had two wires inserted and when they removed it it didn't hurt at all !
The phical therapy is painfull. It felt like they were breaking my arm again. The tip of my elbow was broken into many pieces
(olecranon). But my therapsit told me, without PT you'll be very limited in the bending of the elbow. Complete PT will give you 85-90 % of normal which I got 90% back. Msg to anyone who has surgery: DO YOUR PT! Its a pain in the *ss but in the end its well worth it.
yea i had to get this a year ago, my upper arm bone got snapped in half and they had to put some screws in it. really sucked and the anesthesia made me feel like total crap when i woke up.

After the operation like this I got my fingers paralysed. :(
separanets 2 years ago
@separanets
it happens unfortunately. the paralysis vanish until 6 month.
In some cases even with the nerve not damaged the paralysis persists.

But I'm afraid of getting palsy again.
