Im getting a bike this year (my first), so if I dont wave back at you, its because I nervous as fk about letting the left hand go. No offense good sir!
I ride a cruiser and I really don't think sport bike guys look stupid. I think they look firkin awesome. Its just both have different styles of cool, and to think that only one version is the cool one is stupid, so screw those guys. I hope my second bike is a crotch rocket. Id wave you ya!!!!
One year ago I used to wave to other motorcyclists many times first, not anymore. I only wave as response because im tired to wave to other motorcyclist who doesnt wave back. Top reason why most of riders dont wave anymore is because motorcycling became very popular. So if they wave to everyone then they will have to ride their bikes lots with one hand only.
I dont know about your waving style, I have noticed that especially newbies do little mistakes when they wave to other motorcyclists.
@Bikeman1087 Hehe... Yeah I am getting to the point I am trying not to instigate the wave. Not really a big deal if someone does not wave back but it makes me feel like such an idiot for waving at them. lol
My wave style is to lower my left hand to the side and hold out 2 fingers in a "V" or Peace sign. if I cannot take my hand off the grip I nod or raise two fingers while keeping my hand on the grip. :D
@liamscott2005 Over there, everyone starts out on smaller bikes or scooters. I think that adds to the common experience you guys have around riding on 2-wheels. :D
Here, anyone can go buy a huge cruiser or high end sport bike and hop on and ride. Makes for a lot more diversity in attitudes and some folks don't like one type rider or another. Don't get me wrong, I still on average get a lot of waves back from all types. ;^)
I don't wave at all bikers, sometimes I see them too late or they are not wearing a helmet or it would be too dangerous to take my hands off the bars to wave.
@britex3186 I agree, sometimes you can't wave as it isn't safe or you don't see them in time. I try to raise a few fingers or nod if I can't wave. :^)
I once asked a bicyclist why they don't wave back to people on motorcycles. He told me that they look down on motorcyclist because they do it the easy way. Scooter types don't wave either. I wish it were more like the old days when everyone waved to each other with no attitudes.
@cashstore1 When I am on my scooter, I wave at motorcycle riders. I get about the same ratio of wave backs as when I'm on the motorcycle. I rode about 30 miles on my 50cc scooter a couple weeks ago. Down some of these same roads. Kinda takes the big cruiser and/ Harley riders off guard when I wave and they will wave back. LOL
i generally give something completely different to bicyclists..
scooter riders get waved to, as i used to have one and most of the people (i've encountered) are ok folk.
if someone is actually busy(i.e. cornering/signaling/in heavy traffic..) and does not wave, that's cool. open road and not not wave? they can f right on off.
@dv8tion242 Yeah I rarely initiate a wave at bicyclists. Just doesn't feel right. But I do wave back if they wave.
Scooter rides definitely get a wave... (I ride one myself occasionally)
Yeah, I'm the same. If they are cornering or something I understand no wave. Usually they give a nod to acknowledge me though. When I know they have seen me and they ignore me it makes me feel like a dumb-ass. :D
I'm waving right now!! I'm seeing fewer and fewer bikes on the road during the week lately. I feel like I'm the only one out around here (that can't be possible) guess it's getting to cold in the mornings for most :\ so I have to wait for the weekends to practice my wave....
@Fotoez You can always put a mirror in the garage and sit on your bike and wave at yourself. Just don't forget to wave back as then you'd have to call yourself names. LOL
what's the etiquette for divided highways? Sometimes I get discouraged with all the people (mostly cruisers) who don't wave, after 4 or 5 bikers not waving I don't wave to the next one and dammit if they don't wave and I look like the dickweed.
@Baggahammers I will wave across a divided highway if I can clearly see the other biker. Most of the time they don't see me or ignore me. yeah, feels funny when you get the wave but don't or can't wave back in time. lol
i always to the side nod as the front nod people can't tell your nodding at them at 100mph+ i found that out after about 45 mins doing 100+ and no one nodding back. Then i did the side nod and everyone was doing it back.

Only happy people wave. I have it figured out now.
A Ducati has a v-twin, more like an L twin for the purist. Moto-Guzzi has a V-Twin.
