Notice the symbolism of the fireplace behind Ronnie. He's fiddling while the nation burned. The deficits he ran up set America on a course of financial destruction.
Right wing historical revisionists, in their ignorance, always try to blame congress, and ignore the fact that presidents can veto budgets.
I loved Ronald Reagan. I am a Republican because of him, I turned 18 in the early 1980's, and my family were life-long FDR Catholic Democrats, but when I looked at the issues and look at the leaders, I chose the Republican Party. Reagan was a graeat man, and every Republican stands on his shoulders. The Republican Party was dead in 1980, he changed the whole equation. Thank your President Reagan!
this President is full of shit...they say the same old shit...smaller government, lower taxes...and what in the fuck did it get us....corporations fucking over our jobs
I'm a Liberal Democrat but the country was better off economically then it was in 1980. Lower Interest Rates, lower inflation, lower unemployment, more people working. And lower Tax Rates.
I have 2 admit even though I'm a liberal Democrat, Reagan had a confidence & a reassurance & an appeal that cut party lines. He deservedly won in 1984 because simply put, he was a much more confident, optimistic & charismatic than Walter Mondale. I honestly believe that he became a better leader during his 2nd term when he softened his approach a bit. It helped end the Cold War & give him international respect. Unfortunately 4 the GOP, Reagan would b 2 liberal by 2day's standards 4 the party
Thats funny. I know Reagan is the conservatard god but give me a break, I can name at least 6 dem presidents that where more honest and faithful to their country, including Carter. Just look up the recently declassified documents concerning Reagan's involvement in the release of the Iran hostages. Reagan should have been tried for treason!
I believe that if Reagan lied and cost Americans their lives or freedom then he should be tried for treason.
If you or other Democrats that believe this have evidence you have a responsibility to bring the charges formally. If you do not have the evidence your remarks are irresponsible.
If Democrats in congress have evidence they have a duty to bring charges.
I believe they do not have the evidence. That is why making these charges is cowardice.
And you would have to be dumber than owl shit to believe that!! LOL!! Carter was a complete retard, Clinton a horny hick, and Bahama's already on the downhill slope. Go murder a baby you loser. ;-)
@Lovin1Country Sorry, BUT YOU CAN'T COMPARE CLINTON TO CARTER. Horrible president. Way overrated by the right. The Left knows the truth abought this president. He cut taxes for the rich and put the burden on the poor.
He was last great president. The left is general wrong about everything and particularly wrong about Reagan. They hated him because he proved they weren't needed and their ideals were wrong. He turned this country around. He cut taxes on everyone that payed (you can't cut tax rates for those whose rate is already 0%).
I'm sorry that the truth hurts. The truth is he raised taxes on energy and cut taxes for the wealthiest of Americans. On most opinion polls he is rated lower than the great Democratic presidents. Roosevelt, Truman,Kennedy, and Cleveland. Reagan is the one that wasn't needed. We would be better off today if he never was president.
Wow just like all Republicans your facts are exaggerated and completely your own. Did you also read the part where he increased the national debt from $700 Billion to $3 trillion. Or how abought how his policys caused the stock market crash of 1987.
You're right the deficit did increase to $3 trillion because of defense spending against the Soviet Union. I've never know anyone to deny that. The stock market crash was hit all around the world and had nothing to do with his policies, however. That has been proven.
Reagan's "elimination of loopholes" in the tax code included the elimination of the "passive loss" provisions that subsidized rental housing. Because this was removed retroactively, it bankrupted many real estate developments made with this tax break as a premise. This with some other "deregulation" policies ultimately led to the largest political and financial scandal in U.S. history.
The Savings and Loan crisis. The ultimate cost of the crisis is estimated to have totaled around USD$150 billion, about $125 billion of which was consequently and directly subsidized by the U.S. government, which contributed to the large budget deficits of the early 1990s. 3.5 trillion!

It seems to me that it's Republicans that must be smokin' dope nowadays. You're feeble minded comments are proof of that. Next time get your facts straight loser.
And you're full of SuperBullshit. LOL! The left leaning loons have no one who could even compare to him. Which is probably why he defeated you guys so easily. ;-)
In 1980 and 84, there wasn't a Democrat who could successfully bullshit the American people and con his way into the presidency the same way Reagan did.
Reagan won re-election by speaking vaguely about the issues and lying about his tax policies. He told people what they wanted to hear, regardless of whether or not he intended to do it (or if it was bad for the country). He played us all.
Likewise for Nixon (a true Republican icon if there ever was one!) in 1972.
Reagan was the last president - and the only president in the last 50 years - who really believed in the PEOPLE. He was also the only president who was hated by BOTH parties for not doing what they thought he should do. The Republicans did NOT want him as president. They wanted an "establishment' candidate - GHW Bush - so much that they INSISTED Reagan pick him as a running mate. His capitulation to that pressure was probably his biggest mistake. He let the fox into the hen-house.
I'd put Washington and Lincoln as best because Washington set the precedent. He was the standard by which all other presidents were judged for a very long time, but especially because Washington did not desire power. This is an exceedingly rare trait in a leader. Dwight Eisenhower is the only other presidents I know of who did not desire the chiefexecutive office. Lincoln is tied because he alone faced civil war. He prevented the self-destruction of the United States.
The only presidents that can touch him are Washington, Jefferson, and Polk for creating the borders of our country, or perhaps Jackson for letting non landowners vote. But of course, Reagan never had an opportunity like that
@DracoMalfoy87 I'm afraid you need to consider Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt as well. THEY ARE ALSO RANKED HIGH BY HISTORIANS.
Just because they are historians doesn't make them right. Our American history books were written by liberals and Keynesians who don't understand economics. What about Lincoln's monetary policy and Sherman's March to the Sea? Teddy Roosevelt was good, but FDR was one of the worst presidents in history, prolonged the Depression, taxed anything that moved, created many oppressive and permanent laws, and is one of the biggest illusions of history.
@DracoMalfoy87 DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH. HISTORIANS ARE QUITE NEUTRAL. THE ONLY THING THAT ENDED THE NEED FOR KEYNESIAN ECONOMICS WAS THE 1973 OIL CRISIS. FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT'S NEW DEAL PROGRAM ALONE ERADICATED EVERY PROBLEM OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION, EXCEPT UNEMPLOYMENT
No, don't make ME laugh. Historians may be neutral but they can also be incorrect in their theories. The oil crisis was created by government mismanagement, not lack of oil, and the New Deal caused the 1929 stock market crash to become a long term Depression. The New Deal helping the economy is one of the biggest illusions of modern history written by liberal economists into our history books. Don't believe something just because they tell you it in school.
@DracoMalfoy87 YOU HAVE AN OVERACTIVE IMAGINATION. HERBERT HOOVER MADE THE DEPRESSION WORSE AFTER THE CRASH, AND ROOSEVELT REPAIRED A GOOD SHARE OF THE DAMAGE HE CREATED; DO APPROPRIATE RESEARCH. AMERICA'S DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL IS WHAT ENDED THE NEED TO CONTINUE KEYNESIAN ECONOMICS.
Why don't you do research? The great depression was caused by government intervention and overspeculation. The economy improved under FDR a little bit, but he held it back for many years. If he had set it free, it would have improved much, much faster. Keynesian economics doesn't work, it's a myth and illusion too. The oil crisis was ended by Reagan deregulating oil which had skewed supply and demand. Why don't you do a study on economics instead of just assuming regulations improve
@DracoMalfoy87 No, THE GREAT DEPRESSION WAS CAUSED OVERPRODUCTION OF CONSUMER GOODS, DISREGARD FOR THE FARM COMMUNITY, STATIC WAGES. POOR MANAGEMENT OF THE BANKS AND AMERICA'S DEPENDENCE ON THE STOCK MARKET. DON'T EMBARRASS YOURSELF MORE WITH YOUR DELUDED STATEMENTS
The reason too many goods were produced would be from regulating the economy. In a free market, supply and demand mean that there will be neither over or under production. You can't just be angry and want to fix the world without understanding economics properly. Just blind rage and desire don't mean anything without a working plan. If you really desire to make the world better then you need a plan that works in reality, not just in theory. Watch this video, it's fun anyway

I am proud to say I voted against the clown Who began running up the national Debt to record levels and through his anti union policies he began an asault on the working class which continues today.A lot of the p[resent problems we face today are the result of corrupt republican policies! I'm proud to be a Democrat the party of the Greatest Prez;FDR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, the blue collar dem who opposes self-growth, but likes that stamp of "big government" on his blue-collared ass touched up every 4 years. A "blue-collared worker" who uses big unions to mask the inability he has to use his own efforts to work harder. The problem with FDR's new deal is that it was to be temporary. 1 month ago when you posted this, I wonder if you knew the bailout was on its way because of liberal political correctness which inspired the hugest "new deal" in history.
Which Candidate does Ronnie sound like he's talking about when he says "When we look at a problem, we see opportunity. But, when he looks at opportunity he sees a problem!" (2:10+). We sure need another Regan! I'm proud to say I voted for him in 1984 when I was 19!

And farmers have been harassed and subsidized unnecessarily over the years because of imagined fears of food shortages
