I still have this on vinyl and 8-track and play it from time to time. As for the chopped ending comment, Fountains segues right into Dawning Of The Day and my guess is the ending is blunted for that reason.
Starcastle is the quintessential example of how you can have lots of talent, great songs, and still things don't line up to bring lots of fame & fortune. Goolge their Wiki page, which You Tube won't let me paste here!
Although Starcastle's consistantly strong self-titled album is wholly better than the Fountains of Light album (which, quite frankly, did have a few sub-par songs), not a single song on that entire album even comes remotely close to being as brilliant, phenominal, thought evoking, and/or emotionally bolstering as the song Fountains. Most prog bands seem to have that one defining song of theirs which stands above all their other works. For Starcastle, Fountains is it. THIS is their masterpiece.
@skincauldron I mostly agree, although I like 'Portraits' as much, and still have 'Elliptical Seasons' & 'Sunfield' from their first album at the top of my list.
Why does this recording have a number of glitches in it? Several times there were places where it appears to "stick", then continues on. SIGH. THIS is why I like vinyl best!!! There is no substitute for the continuity of vinyl with groups like this. These guys were one of the BEST and most underrated prog rock groups of the 70s!!!
I think their guitar player(s) were better than Steve Howe - of whom I've never understood the adulation. Some of his solos sound like he just learned how to play (on Relayer for example)...
From what I read this remaster IS good/good clean fun, not 'brickwalled' and distorted. - Unlike, apparently the Citadel remas.

Ah yes, the old YES vs StarCastle controversy.
Both are genius.
Yes captures Time.
StarCastle captures Space.
No, wait, - maybe I have that backwards...

@Delivered0ne Hey I'm with ya. But just remember, Yes provided the template.

@discoverytime1 Well, after I had my fill of StarCastle on youtube I clicked on YES - Close To The Edge and, well, it's been a while.
Wow.
They are quite a large sound-field, aren't they....
Delivered0ne 5 months ago
@Delivered0ne They are my favorite (secular) band. Close to the Edge and Supper's Ready have never been topped imo.
Take care

Killer melodies. Did they sound like YES, well....yes. But Starcastle are a much more melodic band. Easier to follow and listen to.
