This song is amazingly beautiful indeed. The sad thing is that I can't help but feel like the music is being interrupted by a cellphone everytime it reaches the Nokia tune excerpt…
@shamif If you think he got over looked, how do you feel about Augustine Barrios Mangore? Segovia punked him. Seqovia couldn't write his way out of a wet paper bag. That's why he never paid Barrios any dues.
@shamif What?. Joe Satriani?. You're talking about Joe Satriani in the same way as Bach and Tarrega?. u____u You seriously should think about your life guy.
@galletitamortal My life? I don't get what my life has to do with anything in this topic. But no matter in which time perioid music has been made it's still music. Maybe you can't compare music of bach or satriani but you still can watch both of them with same level of respect..
@shamif No :c, you say "Satriani" and a studied musician thinks about a guy playing to be a rockstar.. You say "Bach" and a studied musician thinks "Oh my cat, the father of the contrapunctus, he's a genious!".
@galletitamortal Jeesh... I don't wanna start argue here and praise satriani as genius (even though he is to me :)). But still leave that studied musician stuff away because it doesn't tell your honest opinion. Now even I started to act asshole because of subject about opinions which nobody should never argue 'cause it never leads to anything but annoyance to the other people who just wanna enjoy this song..
@shamif You're right guy. About Bach, my opinion is honest, when you learn to hear the music you start looking for beautifullness, for a languague, something that talks to you and not just virtuosism or good and cool sounds. When I hear Bach you can hear the sounds playing, running through the piece, and making something that talks about the life.
Sorry if I can't explain what I want to say, english isn't my main language
.
But well whatever, poeple is free to like whatever they want. Greetings.
Regrettably, I've lost the second disk in this set. David Russell was superb and Tarrega; yet to be equaled in the Ethnic Guitar category, except perhaps by Augustine Barrios Mangore? How can one say? I can't.
@btonasse Are you trying to turn that comment into something bigoted? Plenty of stringed instruments could be considered "ethnic guitars", due to their cultural affiliations/heritages -- the lute, the mandolin, and the sitar, to name a few.
@BlandAmbition No need to be aggressive, man. Which instruments wouldn't be "ethnic", then? I'm sorry, but the use adjective of "ethnic" to characterize an instrument is eurocentric and thus completely inadequate. If someone says something I think is wrong, no problem with trying to poke him and make him think about what he just said. I'm not trolling nobody and not disrespecting nobody. Give me a break.
You don't need to point out it's the nokia tune, i'm pretty sure that's why most people came to see this video.

Have you all heard Mahler's "Fantasy on a Theme of Tarrega"? (also often called his "9th Symphony")

Tarrega should be at least as much respected than bach or joe satriani. Too bad he lived in times when guitar playing was nothing compared to piano..
