Helpful - thanks for posting. I've decided to get one to complement my 12-60, which is a superb lens, but - like your 50-200 - quite heavy while hiking.
any Olympus lens with SWD marking on it is noise less :D
incredibly quick and noiseless
quick question, which lens would you prefer. 14-35 F2.0 (damn expensive but worthed), or the 12-60 F2.8-4 (good all around lens, not that expensive)
Many of my friends says that the overall sharpness looks pretty much the same, but if you pay attention to hue details, 14-35 will show its true potential with its SUPER RICH colour :D
don't you find the 50mm a little too 'zoomy' on olympus? Wouldn't you prefer a 30-35mm instead of this 50mm? I want to buy a prime but can't decide to go for 30-35, or 50mm.. I'm afraid that on the 50mm I'll be forced the get a lot back from the subject.
@bughykissable A 100mm lens on my 35mm film cameras has always been my favorite portrait length lens. That is what the 50mm on Olympus gives me. With my Nikon D200 and other APS sized sensors, I never used the 50mm as it was too short at about 75mm equivalent focal length. I have never liked the normal 50mm focal length with my 35mm cameras and that is what a 30 to 35mm would give me. To normal looking and too much distortion for portraits. Just my view though.
i like the sound of Zuiko 50mm...and of course, You cant compare 50-200 with it, Zuiko 50 mm is superb while 50-200 is best around 150-170 and not at begining - 50mm.
@Mazsk I use my 50mmf2 on my E-510 all of the time. You can use it in AF mode or Manual focus mode - whichever you chose. Also any of the auto exposure modes like A, S, P, or manual exposure - work with this lens.
woah you got the 50-200 f2.8. thats a nice lens there! i guess you could get rid of the 50mm prime and stick with the telephoto but if your into your macro and want half a stop more the prime still is good to have
The real advantage for having the 50mm lens for me - is the small size. Even though I can get that 50mm focal length with my 50-200, it is a big heavy lens and there are times when I don't want to be lugging it around. The 50 is a perfect portrait lens (I'm not really into macro or nature shooting). Initially I didn't see the need for it with my 50-200 - but now I love it, use it a lot, and would have a hard time doing without it.. Thank you for your comments. Much appreciated.
Hi - Well I am convinced that some people just try to find something to complain about. I have a 50mm macro myself and find no real abnormal noise. Some of the biggest complainers seem to be these so called camera reviewer, they seem to go out of their way to find some fault, only because they think they HAVE TO,because they are ??expert ?? reviewers. Cheers Hanz
