  • This song was originally intended as a slight towards the English Monarchy. Oh well times have changed and the US and UK are close friends. Just wondering, won't they be changing the National Anthem of the UK once Prince Charles takes the throne? Do they always switch it back and forth depending on if it's a King or Queen?

  • @hop208 It changes based on the gender of the monarch.

  • i just noticed today during the wedding, that this is the SAME DAMN THING as God Save the Queen!!!!

  • I thought it was odd they sang America at Westminster Abbey this morning, but hey - whatever floats the Brit's boat!

    *Ducks and run...*

  • Who gives a damn if we used the melody from an English song? It just deepens the meaning of this song by reminding us of our roots.

And to be honest, everyone who is arguing about who made the song, la di da, needs to take a deep breath and realize that music is not a contest. No one will win this idiotic debate.

  • The Americans are bursting to shout "GOD SAVE OUR GRACIOUS QUEEN GOD SAVE OUR NOBLE QUEEN" in this song.

  • I think it is interesting the amount of coordination required to play that pipe organ. Feet and hands, knobs and keys. Bravo.

  • damn its so gay that the usa USED THIS FROM THE UK stick with star spangled banner at least it's original

  • These comments are much nicer than most of the others i've seen!

  • Without the spanyards there is no North/South America :D-England however did help us in a few wars b4 our independence but later on abused ther power and we got ticked off :)

  • So thats where the British anthem originated or?

  • The french helped the americans defeat the british

  • @ukilioh13

Near the end of the war when England was retreating yeah..

  • i like my country tis of thee better than our national anthem

  • As an American I know to appreciate England for what it is and was. While we may have had differences in the past, there is no better friend to America. God Bless America. God Save the Queen

  • Beautiful, and I agree whole heartedly. We mostly came from the English and we are true brothers. God Bless America and God Save the Queen!

  • England is already a Soviet Socialist Republic. America need to have another "revolution" (the Ron Paul kind) to stop us from going down the same road.

  • @patschamps0204 no fuck the queen that dirty wrinkly parasite

  • @Macaframa1 you nasty blasphemes git! Thats my bloody queen!!!! have some bloody respect!!!

  • @patschamps0204 You're pretty much a traitor. Damn all royalty.

  • I'm glad somone else noticed its the exact same tune! It is hilarious!

  • Don't be hate the British. This may come as a shock but America was the fruit of the UK. If you went back in time and herd George Washington, you would be shocked to hear the accent. We helped you in every war and now we are perfecting fusion energy. Ignorant Americans think they made every improvement to the world. We are you father, show respect. lol -4 comment

  • You are right that the US would not exist as it is without England, and the founding fathers would indeed have spoken like Brits, because they were (before revoking citizenship). Nobody denies that and it is not a shock to any educated American. The British helped Americans in every war? Like, say, the American Revolution, the War of 1812, or the Civil War? The main way the British helped the Americans at the beginning was by showing what a bad govt. looks like (see: Declaration of Independence)

  • Getting involved in the war of 1812 was stupid. Also the English gov't as it was in 1776 was not that bad in England, the problem was that Americans were not represented in it. The English people under their monarch had much more freedom than anyone else Europe at the time (well except maybe the Swiss).

  • hey just ignore the assholes who dont appreciate and respect british im american and i know we wouldnt be have the country we are if it wernt for the british, britian i see it as the father or mother of our country and the british have backed up america in just about every war wether they needed to get involved or not the british fought and died side by side with american people....=)

  • Right, it is amazing how quickly after the war ended in 1783 that USA and UK repaired relations. Most of the American leadership, Washington, Hamilton, Adams, Jay, were very quick to see the dangers of the French Revolution and were basically anglophiles. The Jeffersonian types later got us into that war with England in 1812 which only served the cause of Napoleon.

  • @coolerking04 wrong. we fucking hated uk until like 1820. (we meaning USA)

  • @gagwee umm no, Under Hamilton's guidance, Washington actually had a friendly policy towards England. Adams was also much more pro-English than French. US-Anglo relations 1783-1820 are more complex than you think.

  • @gagwee actually during the revolutionary war... only a third of the colonists wanted speration, another third were loyalist, and the last third didnt give two shit

  • God save our gracious queen. Long live our noble queen. God save our queen. ☺

  • Sounds better our way. But thanks just the same. The Englishman who braved the dangerous sea where the best England had. They left came to America and hence the greatest country in the world lol. I should also thank your longest enemy France really for all their help and winning our Independence. If you can take a swim across the pond give them a merci beaucoup for me. Thanks =}

  • I think it's hilarious how it's the same tune

  • The real lyrics are:

    God save our gracious Queen

    Long live our noble Queen

    God save the Queen

    Send her victorious

    Happy and glorious

    Long to reign over us

    God save the Queen!

  • Actually, they would be the lyrics of "Heil dir im Siegelkranz".

Face it. It's a popular tune.

  • My country tis of thee,

    Sweet land of liberty,

    Of thee I sing.

    Land where my fathers died!

    Land of the Pilgrim's pride!

    From every mountain side,

    Let freedom ring!

  • @kanenkitten

Well, the "real" lyrics of God Save the King, I suppose. But this song is "America," that happens to share the same tune. The tune, btw, is from a melody in Muzio Clementi's Symphony No. 3.

So which is the "real" song?

  • The organist's moving strangely...

    ;-)

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN

  • The same tune has been used by many countrys almost all changing it. The first German national anthem used the melody of "God Save the King" with the words changed to Heil dir im Siegerkranz, and sung to the same tune as the UK version

  • This is actually an English tune which is the British National Anthem, personally I prefer these words as in this one you don't worship our non elected spounges.

  • and the english tune is taken from the german kaiserhymne

  • As opposer the the spungers that we actually do elect :)

  • This song with these lyrics go back to the late 1700's early 1800's...so it's not a recent American creation.

  • God save the queen?

  • No this is an American anthem not an English one the same melody as God Save the Queen, but different lyrics...

  • Correct from previous comments Prussia (Germany) and other countries have used the British national anthem not the other way around.

ANyway it is a good tune so i can understand why the USA uses it for a song with different lyrics, there are one or two others examples too.

Who cares, both versions are good.

  • nice to see that the US is still patriotic towards the UK!

  • This song is not for UK, funny joke. Queen is nothing in America.

  • British anthem melody mate - it wasn't a joke.

And America loves the Queen even more than we do!

  • Yeah I know that. And you are probably right!

  • LOL , good one.

  • This one doesn't mention the Queen at all, because she has 0 power over here and we could care less.

  • As a Canadian, this song is God Save the Queen.

We sung it every morning in public school, before O Canada, then the Lords Prayer.

  • God save the Queen!

  • No I'm just being patriotic like all you Americans! You got a problem with that or something?

  • God save our gracious Queen Long live our noble Queen God save the Queen Send her victorious Happy and glorious Long to reign over us God save the Queen O Lord, our God, arise Scatter her enemies And make them fall Confound their politics Frustrate their knavish tricks On Thee our hopes we fix God save us all
  • we get the point themanwho11.....hahaa did u go to every video about my country tiss of thee to remind us that you guys have words to the same music hahahahha sillyfuck

  • This song purposefully used God Save the Queen tune. People could whistle and hum the tune around British soldiers, etc. who thought they were praising the Queen.

  • damn americans bastards stole the melody of God save the Queen. Unoriginal usurpers, Britannia shall rule again.

  • and you britains stole us germans the melody.and liechtenstein has the same melody for their national anthem.

  • A good song although it's kind of funny how it's a rip off of God save the queen. Hopefully the American people will soon be as free as they should be!

  • Hey British! Stop your complaining! We won, deal with it! (With some help from France and Spain of course)

Secondly, have you ever thought that maybe this was America remembering its own roots by keeping a tune that was British? No, the first idea you had to have is that we Americans are mere thiefs who have no appreciation for those who helped us grow.

  • Not just SOME help, you could not have won with out the French. You think an Empire with a quarter of the wolds population in it could be beaten with out the help of its two major rivals? You owe EVERY thing to them. Thats why I don't see how any American can hate the French. In England we have many reasons to. Any way with 70,000 American deaths and 31,000 British 1775-83, I don't call that much of a win.Oh and remember when we burned your capital to the ground? That must have dented the pride

  • honestly you Brits need to chill. Yes, France and Spain were BIG help...okay...and by my memory, your people signed the Treaty of Paris of 1783, declaring that we were independent. you lost. Also, our high death toll simply tells how much more we wished to be free from your tyrannical rule. Had you given us "taxation WITH representation," America may never have come into being.

Finally when you burned our capital, did it strike you how we did not give up? or did you think we begged for mercy.

  • you can't dent american pride silly

  • america is a melting pot of all ethnic groups thas wat so great about my country and we can have pride saying we are americans not just germans irish ect

  • Heil dir im Siegerkranz,

    Herrscher des Vaterlands!

    Heil, Kaiser, dir!

  • Just saying one of the things you should never talk about to a group of people is government. Also culture/religion and so on. These sort of things cause huge fights!

  • My British mindset keeps thinking they should be singing God Save the Queen.

  • Yeah right on. Can't even think of their own tune! Retards

  • Happy 200th birthday Samuel Francis Smith!

  • yeah.. americans are mainly british colonist, then french and german folk came in, germans were actually hired mercenaries.

    but AMERICA FOR AMERICANS!

  • Maldita sean personas como hijo de puta, por su culpa tenemos un pais entreguista.

  • Get your own fucken melody then. Assholes..

  • we do... the star spangled banner happens to be our national anthem thank you very much

  • Full of lies. Land of the free my ASS. You don't even know what freedom is.. Your just told that you are free and you believe it HA!

  • what country are you from? do you understand what freedom is? how do you know your not the one who believes the lies of your country?

  • Because I live In America and I see first hand how much Americans are fooled into thinking how great they are. I hear it from the people here, who don't even have fucking passports, saying things about other countries. How would they know either way? And I ask them..How do you know, you been there? They say no, I watched it on the Tv.

  • why do live in america if you hate it so much you are the one who made your judgement about americans by the six hundred americans you have talked to do no real person says i saw it on tv that is like saying it is written down it must be true.

  • yea, this guy's got a point... if you hate it so much, leave. if you can't, your stuck, maybe you should suck it up and just live.

  • (i am a chick) but thanks for agreeing

  • your dont know how lucky u are there is starving people in africa and your complaining still and we are free. look at china they have there news filtered by the government. yeah thats free

  • hunkgod, I have a passport, I've traveled around the world, lived in France and Holland and my father is an immigrant - and I say America is #1 - if anyone is "fooled" its you; not our countrymen who recognize the greatness of the USA.

  • Where have you been, the only continent that I haven't been is Antarctica. How long did you live there for. OR did you just go on a Euro trip after high school and think that you know something about the world? What State do you live..

  • Oh wait you are part Dutch? That explains alot. Your opinion about anything now means nothing. good day.

  • Father's side are all immigrants from Russia -Mother's side is Dutch. Lived in France for 6 months and spent a few summers living in Holland - how much time did you spend in the USA? From the way you talk one would assume you had quite a few years behind you. Either way, sorry you don't like America - feel free to leave it someday.

  • and going by your logic, they're illegal to themselves as they owe most of their ancestry to 'foreign european occupants'

  • pilgrims were illegal immigrants. deport yourselves

  • actually they were quite legal, with a charter from the king of england. Anyways, most early ancestral americans are descended from British colonists who, I assure you, by order of the king were legal colonists.

  • foreigners declaring them legal. how does that make sense? and now your society has the nerve to tell indigenous people where they can be. your society can tell indigenous migrants where they can go. it is not a society i am proud of. you all are scary.

  • If you are referring to the illegal mexican aliens in our country, they're all mixed descendants of Spaniards and Aztecs, not pure, native, indingenous people.

  • Some of them are. That shows how little you know.

  • Actually not all of them are Aztec (European term) or Mexica. Some of them are Tohono O'odham, Zapotec, Maya, and more and more.

  • They are only "illegal" to the illegal foreign European occupants of this country

  • excellent playing of this hymn on the pipe organ

  • Thanks for the compliment!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    god save america.

  • This can't be in America. Where is Thomas Jefferson's Separation of Church and State?

    - Vince from Charlottesville, VA

  • There is no such thing. Thomas Jefferson Never wrote or uttered the words seperation of church and state in any official US document. He wrote it in a letter. NOWHERE is that phrase mentioned anywhere in the US constitution, the bill of rights the ammendments of the declaration of independence. It simply doesn't exist. PERIOD.

  • AH hahahahahahha! We ripped off your national anthem! Suck on it tommies!

  • I am American and I hate this song, and am happy to hear that it is a rip off. Although I do have ancestors that were pilgrims, I also have ancestors that were idigenous to this land. A lot of them died too, actually a lot of them were killed by my pilgrim and Spanish ancestors in their conquests for gold and material possesion. Its a celebrate genocide song

  • Please respond why you hate this song.

  • Correct me if i'm wrong but they've nicked Englands anthem lol!

  • i had to see this lol,

they change our language to microsoft English (United States)?, soccer? whats that.

then they change the lyrics to god save the queen lol, i like america even though they are a bit misguided

  • in a very american way.

  • Interesting.

  • O yes! God bless America!

  • I sang this as a solo 40 years ago in honor of my brother who was serving in Vietnam. 40 years ago, I was preparing for the Music Conservatory while he was in the war.

  • Never heard it played and sung more beautifully. Thanks Bob!

  • Thank you on this Memorial Day weekend!

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

  • God Save The SHUT UP AND STOP COMPLAINING!!!!!

  • God Save the Queen!

  • In school, everyday, we have to listen to one of the patriotic songs, and it kinjd of gets boring but, i like this song, its my favorite.

  • Just like bloody Liechenstein

  • Sigh. The real name of this song is God Save the Queen. We should have the yanks on theft of Copyright

  • lindo

  • esse hino é lindo lembra minha mãe

  • Nice, I like how every verse goes the same rythem.

  • The yanks have nicked our national anthem!

    God Save the Queen!

  • Well, we've nicked it for over 200+ years already...seems to me like old news...

This tune, for the large part of the 19th century, was considered to be the "unofficial" anthem of the United States, until the Star Spangled Banner's adoption in 1931 as the official tune of the Union. Consider the usage of the harmony and tune a tribute to the mother country, despite that rather bloody little tizzy in the 18th century's waning years.

  • Don't confuse Yanks with Americans.

Yankees are Generally reffered to as New Englanders.

Also, Both songs have great lyrics.

    Also,

    LOL loan Lease program.

  • Well British people call all americans yanks, and in the USA isnt it the people in the northern states that are reffered to as yanks by americans?

  • god save the queen!!

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN

  • God save the queen!

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

  • that man lives by the seat of his cocker spaniel. ha ha! But, I LIKE HIM!

  • This should be Ron Paul's campaign song.

    What do you think?

  • I'm an American but it disgusts me that so many of my countrymen seem to have this sense that every other nation is a pile of shit. Sure the US is great and all but that doesn't mean every other country sucks.

  • my last messsage was to the viewer turbobrain.

  • God Bless Ameria!

  • i really wish i could understand why we can sing this song with tears and joy for the freedoms we have. but swear and spit when it comes to our troops in the war. we are singing their story and our heritage in this song. it shames me that people choose to be political when it comes to how our troops are treated. Shame on Pelosi and Reed.

  • Bring them home to where they belong!

  • i agree with you. lets pull out now!! this way when we get back and they hit us again we can stay here, and fight them here. that way we wont be sending money to aide our troops in other countries. i have served my country in 2 tours of Afganistan, and taken a bullet in the hip, and now walk with a cane. my sister is in Iraq, my brother was killed in Iraq 2 months ago. So i ask you to please not confuse patriotism with political agendas. Thank you

  • Foreign intervention was a major contributing factor in terriorism. Have you read the 9-11 commission report? Bringing the troops home is important to maintaining our national defense and not instigating more terrorism. But lets not spoil a wonderful song with this.

  • What makes you think that having an occupation in Iraq is stopping the terrorists from coming to the US? We're as open as we ever were. They could walk in as easily as they did on 9/11. They're not a country, you can't invade them, you can't stall them, you can't distract them. They're all over, an occupation of one country isn't gonna help.

  • God bless the greatest country in the world - U.S.A from a brazilian who love America

  • Damn right we're the greatest nation in the world.

  • Greatest Nation in the World-Don't care what anyone says. Members of my family have fought and died to preserve this nation. God Bless the United States.

  • God save our gracious Queen

    Long live our noble Queen

    God save our Queen

    Send her victorious

    Happy and glorious

    Long to reign over us

    God save our Queen

  • Not here in America it isnt. We earned the right through battle not to sing to the Queen. sorry.

  • We fought against the tyranny of the king and queen! Then we took their song and made it ours! USA is the nation of freedom and we must continue to preserve it!! Ron Paul!

  • Accompanying an audience in a "concert" setting is always a challenge. Thanks for "discovering" my videos!

  • Great karaoke ! I'm discovering all your video's ... As soon as I'll be able to play organ, I'll send you my video 'wink'. It's always difficult to play with a choir that doesn't seem to know rythm, isn't it ?

  • Thank you! Awesome!

  • I appreciate your comment very much. I learned this hymn as a child, always focusing on the words of thanksgiving to God (never realizing the history associated with its tune).

  • Organ Piano & Congregation. this is my favorite sound in the world. always has been. please post some Piano/Organ duets! thx

  • Wonderful video, both the music and text. It's good to see more of your videos again. :)

  • Thanks! 10 years ago this summer, I was composing my original choral-symphonic setting of Psalm 121. In a few days, I'll try to upload a recording of its Nov. 1997 premiere.

  • perfect song for the 4th i loved it

  • Thanks! The words (and music) are inspiring. Typing the text, I was able to reflect on each stanza and phrase of the hymn.

  • It was beautiful melody for the 4th of July. Well done and lovely !
