@BarneyGoogle1950 - Sinatra was great when he started - then he changed his style when he signed to Capitol - it's obvious that Bobby copied Sinatra's Capitol era - but I think Bobby was more entertaining - and a better singer.
@NeilThompson30 Bobby Darin can be enjoyed on his own terms, and he did die before his time--but he was never in a class with Sinatra. Never an "Only The Lonely" or"In The Wee Small Hours" masterpiece from Bobby. Read Will Friedwald, John Rockwell or Henry Pleasants on Sinatra. Frank was truly an artist, the greatest interpreter, and engaged serious thinkers about his art.
@BarneyGoogle1950 - of course Bobby was in the same class as Sinatra - he was as good as anybody - if someone argued that Crosby or Jolie were better, then fair enough - but I think he tried to cram everything into his short life because he knew it was gonna be short - rock 'n' roll, country, folk, cabaret, films - and he did it. I shouldn't really be arguing about Sinatra cause I like him so I'll now shut up, all the best.
Mack the Knife and Beyond the Sea are so amazing, but when you stop to think that it was the same Bobby Darin who scored hits with Splish Splash, Dream Lover and If I Were a Carpenter (sounding like a totally different guys on all of them) I'm left stunned at the scope of this man's talent. He was that rare 1950's artist who was actually a song writer too -- AND -- he was nominated for an Oscar for his acting skills. Sheesh!!
Bobby Darin received the GRAMMY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD TONIGHT! His son Dodd Darin gave a beautiful speech on his behalf in yesterday's ceremony. It's on You Tube under " Bobby Darin Lifetime Award". Bobby was a versatile, multitalented genius!
@waltandrus MEANING THAT BD DID IT TEN YEARS BEFORE ELVIS DID, NOT THAT HE DIED BEFORE... THAT HE DID THAT 'DIRECTING THE BAND TO STOP' AT THE END... IN RESPONSE TO THE PREVIOUS POST.
Bobby doesn't just sing and play music... he IS the music. I mean, seriously, if you watch this video alone it's proof that there isn't a single performer in the entire world like him... not Elvis, not Sinatra. Nobody!
an you procure Bobby Darins version of " I remember April " . What a talent ! He could do it all;sing, dance, play most instruments. He was Mr. Showman. second only to Sammy Davis Jr. Been a fan 50+ years. Hope you can post it. Mel

Bobby Darin is awesome, It doesn't matter what age you are. I loved "beyond the sea" not going to lie it's probably the best "musical" (movie about a musician) I've ever seen
layzer80-----what a sick comment to make about an amazing singer who is no longer with us. Unlike yourself, he had class, lots of it which is why he will be more successful in 37 years than you would be in 100. Why don't you spend your time doing something constructive for this world instead of making sick jokes about a wonderful talented man and humanitarian. You're not worthy to shine the man's shoes.
I am soo into Bobby's music, I have had 18 of his songs recreated in a studio (England) so I can sing (amateur)some of his great hits. Songs like "Moon River", "That's All", "This Could Be The Start Of Something Big", "Don't Dream Of Anybody But Me".
Find and listen to his "Live" performance of "The Curtain Falls". When I first heard it, I was overwhelmed. His music just takes hold of you.
Bobby was the best! He gave his all to his audience and performed with all his heart!!!
His horn section is onfire on this tune! I want to play trumpet like that behind Bobby. Fantastic lyrics to a great song, how does this not put someone in a great mood?
Even when Bobby had his off days, he was still superb. He hated to cheat his adudience, and would sometimes admit to his being tired onstage, and apologize for it. He would then head to the oxygen tank backstage, to regain his strength. People often badmouthed him for not doing 1 or 2 encores, but the fact was, he could not physically do so, after about '63 or '64. One of his first Copa performances, though great, was rushed, if you take a hard listen. He's still the best of all time.
The best ever. Its a shame that Sinatra and Darin didnt do something together. Darin got along well with Sammy and Dino, i dont see why they didnt work together.
If anyone has ever done great things in the entertainment industry it was Bobby Darin, what a wonderful, gifted, talented man he was. Thanks for posting

What a Classy Man. This performance of Bobby
Darin doing "Once in a Lifetime" is absolute
dynamite. The singing, dancing, clicking of
the fingers makes it sound so very exciting and inviting. What a man, he's master of his
craft. In my books he's hard to touch. I can see why Sammy Davis Jr. said that Mr. Darin
was the one act he'd hate to follow. And as
everyone knows Sammy Davis Jr. was a great
performer. Well that's how good Bobby Darin
was. HE'S EXCELLENT!!! No doubt about it.
