I gather you're using Windows Movie Maker? Right, on the left side of the timeline it should say 'video'. There should be a little cross next to that - click it and a bar should appear under the video clip. Right click and press mute.

That's for Vista version, but I'm sure it's the same for XP. Sometimes the bar is already under the video.
