I set tune to those Brian Jones words some years ago.....
Poor, restless boy......had a very tough life; I met one of his very close family once, and she told me a lot that justifies what I am stating here.....poor boy!!!
Whether they would have become iconic superstars without him will always be debated. His contributions are solid & the songs he contributed so much to are embraced by each new generation. He was the guiding force that brought them to the top of the UK & European blues & pop scene in '62-'64. His life reads like a Greek tragedy. Sadly his untimely death will always run current with the innovative music that he played.
@AssinnippiJack They would have got nowhere without Brian. He formed the Stones in the first place. In the second it was his good looks which attracted the female fans, which pissed off J and R no end!
the epicentre of the stones, where would they be without jones. he is a music prodigy who lived a 100 years in 27 R.I.P- you will never be forgotten <3
We'll never know why Brian insisted on coming in late at the 2:52 mark. He also did the same thing on the live recordings I've heard.. I'm fairly sure Brian would've had a reason for missing nearly a half-beat, or whatever it is; Perhaps to add tension or drama to an already ominous riff?
I was 12 years old when Brian died,I remember my Father coming home from work and dropped the New york Post on our kitchen table. It was a front page headline and my father starts yelling at me saying this is what will happen to you if you go on drugs! Never forget that.
The best of rolling stones, Brian Jones, He plays, Guitar, Sitar, Flute, And more instruments. (he played Oboe and sax with "THE BEATLES") Sorry for my english.
The best of rolling stones, Brian Jones, He plays, Guitar, Sitar, Flute, And more instruments. (he plays Oboe and sax with "THE BEATLES") Sorry for my english.
I only have a vague memory of when Brian died. It was 1969, and the 8th grade had just started. All my classmates were talking about the Charles Manson murders that occurred in August. (I may not have the facts right, it was a long time ago.)
I was only a couple of months old when Brian was found dead in his swimming pool. I love his guitar riff in 'Last Time' which for me epitomises the period of iconic music which I never experienced first hand. Fortunately, his contribution lives on, and whatever the Stones became, it was never the same after Brian 'left.' His legacy to music is enormous and I am sure given that we are all still talking about it 42 years later is testament to his enduring talent!
I always automatically assumed the electric guitar dub was richards. Can anyone confirm it was jones .. I mean REALLY as in the studio not on stage which wikipedia uses as its inside "information"? It was written by jagger richards so it's a bit (nothing big) odd that jones would take such a prodominant role.
@Rustina61 Rustina I have always had this nagging suspicion that " some people" wanted Brian OUT of the picture......PERMANENTLY!.....and as time marches on the speculation on what hapened to Brian gets kookier with eachb passing year!
@code2high There are quite a few rumors about what exactly happened. Some people say he wasn't getting along with the builders at his home, he was drinking, who really knows. I think there was some horseplay going on in the water (in his pool) and things just went too far. There were people who didn't like him, that is true.
@Rustina61 Apparently hardly anyone liked the man. Somewhat of a sadist with women and pretty much an asshole all around from many accounts inside and outside the band.
@strandwolf I thought about your comment for awhile and have to agree. It seems like there were two sides to Brian - talented musician and a man with a mean streak. If we are to believe Keith in "Life", he (Brian) once locked a friend - who idolized him - outside in a big snowstorm barely wearing anything. Not exactly normal behavior.
@Rustina61 I agree. He also had 6 kids with different women! Whoa! I think a Lot of his erratic behaviour comes from his drug addictions. It's too bad he didn't survive past it.
when the stereo in your car breaks one of its channels and "satisfaction comes on...you can hear the stuff Brian is playing......him and Ian Stewart were the stalwarts......
brian's riff is really just the root notes of the chords that keith plays. i mean it sounds sweet, but if you know how to play guitar you see he just did what keith did
@SuperMiro73 I know.. I've been thinking like that too.. and perhaps I've come up with a guess.. Mick and Keef.. I mean if you think of it, they didn't bother going to the funeral, & Brian was an arsehole, I think that they were really pissed of by him.. Have you read Keef's book? I'm not finished, however he says that Brian could say that he was sick & was in hospitel, & then they got a picture of him at some party, etc... I don't know though...
After all these years it's hard to imagine him as an old man like the others. Sad that he was doomed. Fame & temptation has ruined so many & continues to this day. Brian's contributions are assured especially now with the internet & You-Tube. It would be interesting to hear from his sister who survived him.
@AssinnippiJack Perhaps it is too difficult for his surviving sister to talk about Brian. She lost her little sister and then Brian. That has got to be difficult.
Very well said. I think that Brian suffered from a couple of personality disorders. Some sides of him fit Asperger syndrome while other sides fit being bi-polar.
@rockerphelps dont beleive everything you hear from people working with the stones in the 60s.. they like to portray brian as something we wasn't all the time.. the general belief around brian was him and anita had a very violent and drugged up relationship which swung both ways, im by no means condoning what Brian allegedly did but remember he can't talk back... which many of the people around him in the 60s now like to do.
It's really difficult making it in rock when you don't play the usual instruments. I admire Brian for his amazing accomplishments in such a short period of time. It's too bad what happened to him at such a young age. I also play the oboe.
My Dad's eyebrows sure jumped up when I picked the album from which this track came ("Out of our Heads") for my 10th birthday present. 'Played this track a zillion times...liked it even more than "Satisfaction". Brian was still doing OK at this point. A sad decline....
@rocktenniscat You not alone I also picked up a stones album when I was 12 (Decembers Children) I just got a guitar a few weeks before and wanted to play along with something. A year later I had all their albums...
@WayneWiblin - 'Not sure if you're in North America, but in Canada & USA, we had different versions of Rolling Stones and Beatles albums than the UK. Even the titles were different (the shops never had for instance, "Meet the Beatles"). I recently bought some CD's - with original EMI playlists - many different songs! Anyway, I hear that Decembers Children is really great, and am inspired to go and buy it!
@rocktenniscat Do they still do that with the albums even now with them on cd? Well Im in South Africa and the albums go like this ..The Rolling Stones, 12x5, Rolling Stones Now, Out of our Heads, Decembers Children, Aftermath, Got Live if you want it, Between The Buttons, Flowers, Their Satanic Majesties Request, Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed, Get yer Ya ya's Out. ....Damn I cant believe I remembered that order with no effort haha.
@WayneWiblin - I suspect SA got same as UK? I'm from Canada. Now I want to go do some research...You know....Little Steven van Zandt always claims 12 x 5 is his all-time favourite Stones album. HEY, Mick was INCREDIBLE last night on the Grammys. Put all those posers to shame. Grammys just WAY too much gyrating, pyro, special effects, silly stuff. Mick killed 'em all, with JUST singing and mooooooving. And..he's 60 something.
@rocktenniscat I dont think so I think the UK albums were Rolling Stones, Rolling Stones Vol2, Out of our Heads ect ect. 12x5 and Decembers Children were directed and put together for the American market. 12x5, Children, Now.. are all mix and mach of the U.K albums with other tracks that were used for one thing or another. Its really confusing for collectors in the beginning. But all albums after Aftermath have the same track lists both sides of the Atlantic
@WayneWiblin - You're right. Quite a difference in track selection. My copy of "Out of our Heads" did not include "Gotta Go" or "She Said Yeah". (Cannot find anything specific about Canadian releases, but assume same as what the US got) I like the Stones pre-1980 stuff best, but if I had to pick a more recent album - it would be "Voodoo Lounge" Least favourite: Black and Blue", although "Hand of Fate" is great. Just a personal opinion.
@rocktenniscat Hey just a question regarding your first post. You said you got Out of our heads for your 10th birthday...how old are you now? (sorry if it seems rude by me asking)
Good memories !!!!I danced to this when i was very young.. aftermath btw.. I am hogtied, chewed up, and thrown out on the street for trash.. all things considered, i do very well trying to keep up with Michael... that is all I can do, if he would only listen, unless... my emails are deleted before he gets them.. someone gonna pay the price, and it is NOT me.. I paid my dues over and over again.. Good New year, Gran peg~asus ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

ruined his reputation. Great talent sadly missed!! RIP Brian Jones
