i dont see what everyones fucking problem is. just because nothing special happened doesnt mean it wasnt a good cover. it was great to me, so dont hate on people unless you have bette covers to put up!!!
@TheDemarius Thanks man. I might bring it down one day and re-post with some better playing, but it's kind of like having a photo album, it's a memory from a moment in time.
@datrueballa90 Thanks. I found out after that the guy who said it was terrible was actually a "friend" of mine. Either way it comes with the territory of posting anything online. Thanks for the words of encouragement through.
@XxEXmgfilmsxX C'mon man gimme a break. I had only been playing a little while when this was put up and it was recorded spontaneously one day by a friend of mine and I just put it up to see what the whole youtube experience was like.
@XxEXmgfilmsxX dude... shut up. you're such a prick for coming on here an bashing someone's guitar playing. don't bother saying anything at all if you're not gonna compliment. a thumbs down is bad enough, you don't need to be a dick about it..... I think this was a good cover, and Paranoid Android is not an easy song to play. In fact most Radiohead songs are hard.
Another good Radiohead cover. I like your playing style. But may I make a suggestion? On the heavier parts, try hitting the strings a bit harder. You don't have to kill them or anything, but that helps give it that nice gritty heavy feel.
@dustinodell1 Thanks. I had only been playing for a few years when I posted this. I have a bit of a light touch and used to get even more tepid when the camera was on : )
But I agree attack and dynamics are a big part of any good player's repertoire.
@MajorFenix Haha, ie. the solo's. Yeah I keep hearing how that's the weakest part of the playing. I don't spend much time playing this song anymore but thanks for the feedback.
I have really come appreciate this cover. There are other videos where the solos are performed better but this has real emotion especially the first two minutes. I find myself regularly searching this. Great job.
@RupertFripp Thanks for the meaningful comments. I knew this was never quite played at a high level and was recorded quite spontaneously, but I did spend a lot of time watching Radiohead footage to ensure its accuracy. Thanks again.
Thanks. This performance is a culmination of tabs, watching live performances, and figuring out some of the blind spots by ear. The picking during the second verse is something I came up with as a loose apreggiation of the chords and vocal melody.
Hey, I dont think its that bad, I mean its a great song and you definitely have the basic idea for all the parts down. Dont let critical comments keep you from posting. Everyone wants their postings to be entertaining for others and your post was entertaining to me. You can always repost later where people can see your progress. This is a long song and particularly not easy for an unseasoned guitarist. I think you did great.
Thanks for the feedback. And don't worry, I don't take these videos too seriously and get a kick out of some of the negative comments. The truth is most of them have a point so I take what I can from all comments good and bad.
Haha...why don't you tell me what you really think. Hey, this was a spur of the moment thing from a relatively new and unseasoned guitarist - me. I'm currently working on all the things you mentioned and don't plan on putting up any more videos in the meantime.
Please could you tell me what you're playing between 1.14 and 1.29? I am learning the song from tabs and know the bits at the 15th fret then up to the 3rd but it's those bits in between on the second verse I don't know. All the tabs I've seen don't play it how you are and yours sounds really good! Private message me if you prefer. Thanks!
It's actually just picking out the melody from the chords used for the rhythm guitar and adding in the 15th/3rd fret stuff where appropriate. My advice would would be to learn the rhythm (Thom's part), it's not that hard, and then just loosely pick out the melody by ear. That's what I did.
1 question man, sorry i don`t really know how to say it in english: por casualidad no sabes si venden guitarras telecaster de ese modelo en mexico. asi con el color sunburst? my bad english, sorry, i`m mexican
hola, yo igual haha tu pregunta en ingles seria: do you know if i can buy a telecaster guitar just like yours in mexico in sunburst color? y...si esa seria tu pregunta, we pasate por mi canal para que veas algunos videos de el concierto de radiohead en mexico estan rifados
I think I'll make my mim tele into a plus with the lace sensors and everything. Even if I can make a better sounding guitar, I'm just too hardcore of a radiohead fan.
It's called that because it the complete song (as in start to finish) and it is being played on 1 guitar. If you know the song or have ever tried playing it, there are actually 3 guitar parts. Obviously this is impossible to do on one electric guitar live so this is an amalgamation of the lead (played by jonny), and rhythm (played by Thom and Ed). Watch who's doing what in a live performane and you'll see what I was "attempting" to do.
Sorry, I wasn't trying to criticize, it was well done. I actually do play the rhythm part for this song though, and I guess I just imagined a "complete song on one electric guitar" would attempt to combine the parts (perhaps difficult, but doable, to a degree)
I've got one of the few on EBAY in my sites...an American Deluxe Plus for $935...sounds pretty steal-ish from what I've heard from some enthusiast friends I've talked to.
Thanks. Yeah, I've been made fun of a few times for trying to play audio engineer while playing this song. The problem is a kick switch only changes me from clean to my other modeled amps. I'd need an effects processor or a bunch of pedals to get all the effects needed for this song.
I'm amazed you can actually make out any colour on the Tele. On my computer monitor it looks black! It's Crimson Frost, which is best described as transparent red (showing the grain), and fading to a glittery maroon colour on the edges. It looks emaculate in the sun.
I'm going to get a better video put up shortly where you can actually see what I'm talking about.
Technically I think you're right. But I've read that the only difference is the deluxe can have a whammy bar (mine doesn't), and has a roller nut and locking tuners which I've read he'd customized his with. But no, sadly it doesn't come standard with the kill switch he uses.
I looked in to it further. Now that I know exactly what a locking tuner and roller nut are, I realize mine doesn't have them. I'm starting to think it is a Telecaster Plus and not a deluxe as Fender had said. I've changed the info section to reflect this. Thanks.
You were a bit off beat in the beginning, but that's not much of a big deal. At 3:24 I think you need to bend just a little more to hit the note, but maybe it's just me. Overall, it's pretty good, just needs a little polishing here and there.
Thanks for the constructive critisism. I know I'm not the greatest guitarist but I do aim for accuracy.
The timing is a bit off in parts. Basically if you can't hear Jonny in the recording, that means I'm playing over him perfectly - which isn't always the case.
As far as the bends at 3:24, to my ear it sounds like a 3/4 bend. Which I'm probably just below when I start to rush to stay in time. I'm planning on redoing this soon for better audio/video and peformance.
Thanks. During the verse I have phaser barely turned on. Just enough to colour the sound without creating that warbly/outerspace kind of sound. I also have my delay set to the max.
I'm hoping to get some better quality videos put up that showcase the guitar better. I think "it" is the real star of the show.
Thanks. I was ecstatic the day I got it. Never thought I'd actually own the same guitar as Jonny Greenwood. They're hard to find but with a little persistence you can track one down on craigslist or ebay for $900+.

Some of the lead stuff is. Start by learning the rhythm (Thom's part). It makes learning the rest easier.

Juanjolead 2 years ago
I believe it puts the pickups out of phase. Basically it makes it sound thinner and almost acoustic depending on the pickup selection.
caseycurran 2 years ago
very nice
thx and it includes de lace pickups?
Juanjolead 2 years ago
Yep, Lace Sensor pickups are stock on this one. Two red in the bridge and one blue in the neck.
caseycurran 2 years ago
To be exact, it's a second pickups switch:
position 1 (left): pickup 1
position 2 (middle): both together (paralel / humbucker)
position 3 (right): pickup 2.
I have the same guitar, it's amazing, from crystal clear sound to LP style sustain.
this switch do not exist on the J greenwood one, he replaced it with a kill switch, the pickup is than just a humbucker.

If you can get for around that price that's pretty good. I got mine for $900 but I've seen them listed for as much as $1200.
If you're as big Radiohead fan as I am then it's worth it. Not to mention the rarity of this guitar lends itself to appreciation.
P.S. I just put up some more videos using a Vox AC15 if you want to see how good this thing sounds through a good amp.
