  • Bboy Classic \m/

  • why does this sound so much like Otis Redding's Tramp? Which one was first?

  • @krellings it does take some musical cues from otis redding's song

  • @antsorter thanks

  • @krellings Tramp came out in 1967 IIRC, waaaay too much of a coincidence this sounds like it...

  • @krellings This is a straight unlicensed rip-off of Tramp, which was first done by Lowell Fulsom. The Otis and Carla version coming later, and likely that's the one that inspired this cover. The Mohawks come out of the 1969/70 London Reggae scene, and they performed both reggae and funk.

  • Grew up in the Boogie down remember all the pioneer DJ's made this one of the top break beat joints. Big shouts to DJ'S Kool Herc, GrandMaster Flash, Grand Wizard Theodore, DJ Charlie Chase for rippin up the school yards back in the day, plugging up to the street light is how we did it back then, thanks for the memories!

  • Love it cause Eric B. & Mantronix sampled this, love it cause its jams

  • Love the tune, the groove, & the gorgeous Hammond sound. But.... it ain't The Champ, it's a quite blatant rip-off of Lowell Fulson's song "Tramp", as memorably covered in the 60s by Otis Redding & Carla Thomas. So the royalties should be going to Lowell Fulson - I bet they're not!
